TIROIR-CAISSE.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

CASH DRAWER.
The present invention relates to a cash drawer for shops which, under a very simple form and following a moderate price, makes it possible to check and control the sales operations carried out by agents. .
The cash drawer according to the invention is essentially characterized in that it comprises a strip of paper on which the seller briefly writes the article sold and its price and which is set in motion automatically. after each entry by the same maneuver which causes the opening of the cash drawer to receive the marked sum. Consequently, it will be possible, at the end of the day for example, to control sales by checking the contents of the drawer and the entries made by

the paper strip.
The (interlocked which must thus exist between the movement, that is for example the unwinding, of the strip of paper bearing the inscriptions, and the simultaneous opening of the drawer can be achieved by various mechanisms coming from the art. known, the drawing appended to this specification shows, only by way of example, one embodiment of a drawer in accordance with the invention, - in this drawing,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the cash drawer, Figure is a corresponding side elevational view,
Figure 3 is a plan view on a larger scale of the body, the cover removed,
Figure 4 is a side elevational view of the corze spon- ding at ig.3,
the side wall on the side of the operating mechanism having been removed,
Figure 5 is an elevational view on a larger scale of a construction detail.
In the form shown in the drawing, the cash drawer comprises a cash register 1 forming a desk and covered by a hinged lid 2 normally kept closed by an appropriate lock operable by a key 5 or any other closing member. In this cover is cut a window 4 in which is framed a strip of paper 5 unrolled from a roll similar for example to those which are used in I s cash registers.
The cash register itself is divided into three compartments: an upper compartment 6, in which the paper strip 5 unwinds, a lower compartment 7 in which the drawer 8 slides judiciously was guided and intended.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
to receive the change and a side compartment 9 separated from the first two by a partition 10 and in which is housed the mechanism controlling both the unwinding or advancement of the strip of paper 5 and the exit of the drawer 8.
The strip of paper 5 rests opposite the window 4 on a suitable cross member 11 of the box; it unwinds from a roller 12 carried by a horizontal axis 13 to wind up on a roller 14 carried by a horizontal axis 15. The axes 13 and 15- can rotate in bearings fixed to the lower wall of the compartment 6 .
The axis 15 of the roller 14 extends to the interior of the lateral compartment 9, where it carries a toothed wheel 1 & with which is engaged a pawl 17 capable of pivoting about an axis 18 carried by a vertical rod 19 fixed at its base to an operating lever 20 disposed longitudinally in the compartment 9. This lever pivots at one of its ends, at the rear, around a fixed pin 21; to the partition 10, while its other end is curved at right angles to the front to pass through the side wall of the body and to carry externally thereto an operating button 22 running through an oval groove 23 made in said wall .
A spring 24 tends to hold the lever 20 at the upper part of the groove 23, but a spring 25 tends to keep the pawl 17 in engagement with the toothed wheel 16. It is therefore understood that by reducing its - nt the lever 20, it will cause the unwinding of the paper roll 12-, the strip of which, after having passed over the cross member 11, facing the window 4 of the cover 2, winds around the axis 15.
On the other hand, on the side of the partition 10, the axis 18 of the pawl 17 carries a slide 26 sliding between guides 27 on the said partition, which is notched at this point to allow the corresponding displacement of a heel 28 solidai -
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
re of the slide 26 and protruding inside the lower compartment 7. A heel 28 is in the field of action of an elastic strip 29 fixed in a mortise made in the side wall of the drawer 8 and terminated by a lug 30, so that, when the drawer 8 is in the closed position, it is blocked in the box 1 by following the hooking of the lug 30 by the heel 28 of the slide.
Finally, in the same position, the drawer 8 compresses a spring 31 inserted between itself and the bottom of the box, while it opposes the action of another spring 32 which tends to fold a leaf 33 against the bell. ringtone 34.
Under these conditions, by lowering the operating lever 20, the heel 28 of the slide is also caused to erase, so that the released slide 8 is pushed outwards by the spring 31, while the bat- as 33 under the action of its spring 32 activates the bell 34.
Thus, for each sales transaction, the seller writes on the strip of paper 5 in the frame of the window 4 the description of the article sold and its price. After that he lowers the lever 20, which pulls out the drawer 8 for receiving the change, at the same time the strip 5 is moved leaving again in the window a white space for the inscription of the next sale. It will suffice to let go of the lever 20 and to push the drawer back inside the described cash register to return the mechanism / to its original position.
At the end of the day, or at any other time chosen, the store owner, by comparing the entries made by strip 5 and the contents of the drawer, will be able to verify the operations carried out and thus exercise surveillance which will prevent fraud. possible, @ even, the attendant will be able to make a constant inventory using this device
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
In addition, in the event that for any reason a sum should be withdrawn from the drawer without there actually being a sale, it will suffice to indicate on strip 5 at the same time as the sum taken out a appropriate mention, such as house or household.
It is understood that the invention does not consist essentially in the means used to perform the various functions provided; and described above, these means may in fact vary depending on the circumstances and the applications, so for example the opening of the drawer could be done directly by means of the lever 20 or other suitable members. The invention is also not limited to the use of one or the other defined material or to precise dimensions.
