Une caractéristique du dispositif conforme à l'invention réside dans le fait qu'il est prévu un levier de manoeuvre relié avec le bras acoustique de telle manière que ce bras suit le le- vier de manoeuvre, quand celui-ci pivote soit horizontalement, soit verticalement,tandis qu'il peut,de plus,être soulevé par pi- votement dans le sens vertical,ce levier de manoeuvre coopérant,en partie avec un chemin de commane,mis en mouvement par le mécanis- me à engrenages, et destiné à faire pivoter vers le haut le le- vier de manoeuvre quand un disque a été joué jusquau bout ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
mixte.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to interrupt in a simple way the passage of a disc, to allow the installation of a new disc and also to allow a certain part of a disc which is being played to be played again.
A characteristic of the device according to the invention resides in the fact that there is provided an operating lever connected with the acoustic arm in such a way that this arm follows the operating lever, when the latter pivots either horizontally or. vertically, while it can, moreover, be lifted by pivoting in the vertical direction, this operating lever cooperating, in part with a control path, set in motion by the gear mechanism, and intended to rotate the operating lever upwards when a disc has been played to the end;
partly, in its upper position, with a lever oscillating between two limits, during the rotation of the plate shaft, and, partly, with a fixed control path intended to determine the lowering of the shift lever. operation when the acoustic arm is placed on a disc and the operating lever is connected to a trigger member for the disc change mechanism.
The accompanying drawing gives the explanation, by means of an example, of an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows a side elevational view of a record holder, an acoustic arm and an acoustic arm guide mechanism, placed on a tray.
FIG. 2 represents the guiding mechanism of the acoustic arm, seen in plan.
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of the disc change mechanism.
The disc holder plate 1 is actuated by a shaft 2 on which is fixed a small pinion 3 which is controlled by a toothed wheel 4. On the upper face of the toothed wheel 4, there is a lug 5 which is disposed eccentrically and which moves in the elongated groove 6 of a flat fork 7, mounted at a point 8 of the frame of the phonograph. On the shaft 9 of the wheel
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
toothed, is placed a disc 10 of approximately circular spiral shape whose circumference continues with a spiral notch 11, while the tongue 12, formed in this way, is bent down so that it provides a Guide rail in the form of part of a screw thread.
The acoustic arm 14 can pivot in the vertical direction, it is articulated to a hollow shaft 13 which can pivot in a fixed cylinder 16. Through a diametral slot of the shaft 13, passes an operating lever 15 in the form of a thin strip. which can also pivot in the vertical direction, around a pivot 17 mounted in lugs 18 of the shaft 13, these lugs located on either side of the diametral slot. A rod 19, articulated by a pivot on the lower face of the acoustic arm 14 rests on the operating lever 15 and its forked end embraces a notch 20 provided on the upper edge of the operating lever. When the operating lever 15 pivots horizontally or vertically, the arm 14 follows these movements with precision.
On the other hand, it is possible to raise the acoustic arm 14 independently of the operating lever, or to maintain it in the position which has been given to it, for example when the needle is changed or else when there is on the disc tray several discs that have been passed.
The operating lever 15 cooperates with the fork 7 and with two control paths; For this purpose, the operating lever is provided with three appendages. A central appendage 21 cooperates with the guide 12 to lift the operating lever 15 and, consequently also, the arm 14, when a disc has been passed until 'at the end.An upper appendage 22 cooperates with the fork 7, in the upper position of the operating lever, to guide the arm 14 towards the outside of the disc holder plate, when a new disc descends to be put in place. lower appendix 23 cooperates with a commahde path that will be seen more clearly in fig.3. This control path consists of a fixed support 24 and a leaf spring 26 resting on a stop 25 of the support.
The spring is attached to its other end
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
mites and it can be raised slightly by the curved end 27 of a pivoting rod 28. in order to drop the appendix 23 along the field of the support 24 when it comes to passing a large disc. The leaf spring 26 is provided with a notch 29 into which the appendix 23 can fall, when a small disc is passed. The notch 29 may be covered by another leaf spring 30, when the operating lever is to be driven from its inward position and out, towards the circumference of the disk holder.
A stop device, shown in FIG. 1, is arranged to reduce the shock which would occur when the acoustic arm 14 falls at the moment when a disc begins to pass: the operating lever 15 falls on a cross member 31 extending from one to the other of the two lower positions of the operating lever 15 and lying above a rod 32 which is connected to a piston 33 placed in a cylinder 48, which contains 'oil and which may also contain a compression spring 34.
In order to lower a disc, large or small, the device shown in FIG. 3 can advantageously be used. In the center of the disc holder plate is placed, in a manner known per se, a guide pin 35 which is not available. cannot rotate and which passes through the hollow shaft 2 of the disc carrier. The lower part of the spindle 35 is eccentric with respect to its upper part, thus forming a stop 36. The lower part of the spindle has a narrowed region 37, the role of which will be described in detail later. The upper part of the guide pin is supported by a bar 38 which can pivot about a shaft 39 mounted in a frame 40. A guide disc 73 is mounted on the top of the guide pin 35. .
In the upper part of the frame 40, there is mounted a flat plate 41, which has not been shown in FIG. 3, for reasons of simplicity and which is only drawn in line.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
mixed. The plate can be lowered by pivoting about a shaft 42 actuated by a spring 43 which tends to rotate the shaft 42 in a direction such that the plate 41 maintains its horizontal position. lower of the plate 41, is fixed another plate 44 having a part folded at right angles and provided with a groove 45, an ear 46 and two tabs 47 obtained by folding.
In the gap formed in this way between the plates 41 and 44, there is a cleat 49, the front part of which passes through the groove 45 and a groove 50 of the plate 41. The rear part of the cleat is guided between the two. legs 47.
The cleat has an elongated opening 51 through which passes a spring 77 fixed to the plate 44; spring tends to keep the cleat raised as shown in the figure. On the shaft 52, an elbow lever with two arms 53 and 54 is journaled; the arm 53 enters another hole in the cleat 49, while the arm 54 engages - that, by its curved end, another arm 55 integral with a shaft 56. The upper end of this shaft is curved at 180 and enters a hole 58 of another cleat 59, which is guided by a notch 60 made in a plate 61 fixed to the upper surface of the frame 40. The shaft 56 passes at its upper end through a hole 62 and, at its lower end, through a bearing 63.
Its lower end bends at right angles to form an arm 64, the end of which is articulated on one end of a connecting rod 65, the other end of which is articulated on a shoulder 66 of the operating lever 15.
In the lug 46 of the plate 44 is articulated a rod 67 whose lower end forms a sliding lug 68, for a folded part 69 of a rod 70 whose other end, bent at right angles, forms an arm 71. The end of this arm is cut under a plate 72 fixed to the shaft 28.
The operation of this device is as follows.
When the phonograph shaft 2 turns, it drives the pinion 3 which turns the toothed wheel 4. The pin 5 then describes
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
a circolférehce and moves the fork 7 between its two extreme positions, as shown in Figure 2. The fork will therefore move constantly between these two positions, as long as the shaft of the phonograph will turn.
When a record is to be played, it is first placed on the record holder 1 and the acoustic arm 14 is moved, so that the needle can be placed on the outermost groove of the record. As the disc passes, the acoustic arm 14 moves more and more towards the center of the disc.
The operating lever 15 will therefore also move in its lower position from the edge of the opening 74 provided in the wall 75 of the frame to the other edge, the appendage 23 being below the spring 26. .
In other words, the operating lever 15 was initially in the position shown in phantom in Fig. 2 and gradually moves to the position shown in solid line.
When the disc was passed, the appendix 21 was pushed far enough so that its end came inside the circumference of the plate 10. The appendix 23 is then located outside the left end of the disc. spring 26 of figure 3. The tongue 12 now engages below the end of the appendix 21 so that the latter is raised towards the upper face of the plate 10. The appendix is also then driven towards the upper face of the spring 26 and the needle is raised above the disc In this position of the operating lever 15, the appendage 22 has also been raised inside the opening formed by the teeth of the fork 7.
As the wheel 4 continues to rotate, the fork moves downward in Figure 2, so that its upper tooth reaches the appendage 22 and moves the operating lever 15 downward, in Figure 2, while the appendix 23
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
is then on the upper face of the spring 30, above the notch 29 and, subsequently, on the upper face of the spring 26, above the support 24. The arm 14 therefore follows this movement, from the groove central disk. This movement will continue until the appendage 23 has reached the lower edge of the opening 74 of FIG. 2. The arm will then be completely outside the disc.
During the oscillation, being carried out in the anti-clockwise direction, of the operating lever 15, the rod 56 has also carried out an anti-clockwise rotation, which was imparted to it by the connecting rod 65 and which aims to operate a disc change. We can admit that after knowing raised the bar 38 and removed the disc guide plate 73, a certain number of discs were placed, the large diameter discs alternating with the small diameter discs, and their central hole being engaged on the upper part, of the spindle 35, such that the lower disc repo # on the stopper 36. The plate 73 has been placed on the upper disc and the bar 38 has been pivoted downwards back into place.
If the lower disc is a small diameter disc, its edge will rest on the end edge of the plate 41. If, on the contrary, the lower disc is a large diameter disc, its edge will rest on the end edge of the upper plane plate of the frame 40. During the oscillation, taking place in the counterclockwise direction, of the rod 56, the end 57 of this rod and the arm 55 will also perform an anti-clockwise oscillation. a watch. The tabs 49 and 59 will then be pushed forward and, if the lower disc is a small diameter disc, the tab 49, by its end, will push this disc out of the edge of the plate 41. The central hole of the disc will thus be placed concentrically. to the lower part of the spindle 35 carrying the disc and the disc will fall on the disc tray.
While the disc is
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
in the process of passing, the operating lever 15 oscillates clockwise, the rod 56 then also pivoting in the same direction. If now the remaining lower disc is a small diameter disc, its edge rests on the edge of the plate 41 and the tab 49 has been moved downward by the weight of the disc, so that the upper face of the tab is is in the same plane as the upper face of the plate 42. The spring 77 allows the cleat 49 to perform such a movement.
On the other hand, if the lower disc is a large diameter disc, its edge rests on the cleat 59 and, since this cleat has a relatively wide upper face, the edge of the disc will not be damaged when it rests on this surface. relatively small.
As the disc, which has settled down along the spindle, is being played, the rod 56 rotates more and more clockwise and the tabs 49 and 59 withdraw from the extreme edge of the disc in question. The edge of the large diameter lower disc then falls, from the upper face of the cleat 59, onto the surface 76.
When a small diameter disc falls on the disc holder plate, the plate 41 will therefore remain horizontal and the rod 67 will not be actuated, so that the leaf spring 26 will remain on the carrier 24. While the fork 7 guides the operating lever 15 inwards, the appendix 23 the will first move on the support 29 where the operating lever 15 falls, which allows the arm 14 to be lowered on the edge of the disc of small diameter.
If the bottom disc of the stack, located on the spindle stop 36, is a large diameter disc, it will be pushed out of the edge of the plate 76 by the latch 59, when the pin 56 swivels. counterclockwise while the operating lever 15 is driven out of its lower position corresponding to the passage of the disc. This disc will then move

at the same time in such a way that its central hole coincides with the lower part of the spindle 35. First, this disc will tilt slowly, with one part of its edge resting on the plate 41 and the diametrically opposite part lying in it. a lower plane.
In this position of the disc, the moment on the plate 41 will become large enough that the pressure exerted by the spring 43 is overcome and the whole plate rotates downwards, while the end edge of the disc falls along the face 41 , sliding down. So that the edge of the disc then. to leave the plate 41 freely, the disc must be pushed along it and that is why the constriction 37 has been provided on the lower part of the spindle. The falling of the disc will be considerably facilitated by the fact that the shaft 42 of the plate 41 is placed a short distance from the edge of the plate 76. At the same time that the plate 41 was pivoted downwards, the rod 67 was also moving. down and the shaft 70 oscillated so that the arm 71 was lifted.
As a result, the plate 72 pivoted upward and the bent end 27 of the shaft 28 lifted the spring 26, so that the appendage 23 could fall along the field of the support 24 and then move over them. - under the spring 26, which allows the phonograph needle to reach the extreme groove of the large diameter disc. Immediately after the large diameter disc has fallen onto the disc holder plate, the plate 41 is returned to its horizontal position by the spring 43. The leaf spring 26 returns again to the carrier 24 as the tab 12 reaches plate 72, as disc 10 rotates, and rotates it downward.
If the device according to the invention is intended only to be used for discs of small diameter, it can be considerably simplified. The fixed support 24 can then extend to the notch 29 and the leaf spring 30 is the only one necessary, as a support for the appendix 23, when the lever

operating mechanism returns to the outside of the disc holder. In addition, the plate 41, with its accessories, is not necessary, but it is replaced by the plate 76 provided with the stopper 59.
The frame 40 may be preferably designed as a tube through which the rod 56 can pass.
It is obvious that, within the limits of the scope of the invention, as explained in the following summary, the construction details, as described herein, can be modified in various ways. -above and shown in the drawing, without departing from the scope of the invention.
