<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
. FIGURE 2.

FIGURE 3.
Le fonctionnement est le suivant ;

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR IMPROVING THE CIRCULATION OF LIQUIDS INSIDE THE EVAPORATORS AND ABSORBERS OF REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT,
The object of the present invention is an improved process for facilitating, intensifying and making more rational the circulation, absorption and evaporation of liquids within evaporators and capillary diffusion absorbers of refrigeration apparatus with absorption and balanced pressure, the Another object of the invention is the device which makes it possible to carry out such a process.
It is known that in order to increase the intensity of absorption and evaporation of refrigerant fluids in tubular absorption refrigeration apparatus, attempts have been made to apply the longitudinal capillary diffusion made turbulent by the forced flow of the auxiliary gas through the pipes.
This system could not have any practical application because of the complication of the apparatuses, the lowering of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
thermodynamic efficiency and above all because it loses, following the insertion of a fan in the gaseous fluid circuit, the main characteristic of the absorption refrigerant, that is to say that of not having no moving mechanical part.
According to the Italian patent of July 3, 1946-PVN 14/96 of the same applicant, the longitudinal turbulent diffusion is replaced by the calm transverse diffusion in continuous capillary vessels, using either the phenomenon of capillary depression due to the decrease in surface tension , either the phenomenon of osiaatic pressure between solutions at different concentrations and finally the phenomenon due to m convective movements resulting from the heat of absorption and evaporation.
By this system, it was possible to achieve remarkable improvements with regard to the evaporator, less remarkable with regard to the absorber and the cause lies in the fact that if in the evaporator, by the effect of the evaporation of the refrigerant liquid; the capillary vessels automatically return the refrigerant from the bottom to the top, in a manner analogous to that of the bulb of an oil lamp, in the absorber, on the other hand, since no evaporation takes place, the solution absorbent remains almost stagnant in the capillary vessels of the internal lining after having been aided, in its rise, by convective movements and by osmatic pressure, while, in its descent, it is very hampered by the progressive decrease in its specific weight, caused by the corresponding absorption of gaseous refrigerant (ammonia)
from the bottom to the top.
For the absorber, there is therefore a diffusion and not a real circulation of the ammoniacal solution.
Even with the application of calm transverse capillary diffusion, it was therefore not possible, until now with any other known system, to reduce by one.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
remarkable basket the length of the flow of the absorbent solution along the bottom of the pipes, which made it necessary, in the absorbers, the superposition of numerous spirals or more or less horizontal tubular arms to achieve a good absorption of refrigerant. But the superposition of many spirals requires the lifting to a remarkable height - 400, 500 or even 600 millimeters - of the absorbent solution, thus straining the emulsion pump which is part of the reboiler.
Such a force in the lifting device can often be the cause, either direct or indirect, of the stopping of the circulation and of the more or less rapid putting out of use of the absorption refrigeration apparatus.
According to the present invention, without any assistance from mechanical turbulent circulation and, consequently, without moving mechanical parts, it is possible to create, in the absorber, a very intense transverse circulation of the absorbent solution, even if one has not. , available only a very limited length of longitudinal flow: and a very moderate hydrostatic pressure of the poor ammoniacal solution.
In practice, the applicant has verified that, over a given longitudinal path of the absorbent liquid vein, the transverse circulation ratio between the system with simple capillary diffusion and the system, according to the invention, can reach and even exceed, the ratio of 1 to 10, in specific cases.
This result can be obtained by creating, in addition to the usual phenomena of capillary siffusion, of a hydrostatic imbalance in the capillary mass, so as to make possible the rapid lifting of the bottom, of any liquid by means of transport by siphon system through continuous capillaries over a long transverse path. Such an action occurs only at moderate heights since the walls of the siphon are partly formed by
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
elastic liquid films.
Since in a siphon, the speed of the flow depends on the hydrostatic pressure difference between the inlet and the discharge, taking into account the friction and the viscosity of the liquid, it is possible to adjust the "siphon effect" for the capillary transverse circulation of the absorbent solution by adjusting, within certain limits, the hydrostatic depression "h", of which in figures from 1 to 5.
By means of the work achievable by the effect of the siphon of the hydrostatic depression "h", it is possible to raise the absorbent solution, in a manner never reached, by simple capillarity, in an absorber. Indeed, the work achievable by this hydrostatic depression is enormously higher than the work carried out by the reduction of the surface tension in the generation of a liquid surface, work which is provided when this surface disappears.
As the siphon effect can always be sufficient for the operation of any common absorber, strong compression of the coatings is no longer necessary to obtain extremely small capillary vessels, but, on the other hand, it is still necessary with the diffusion system, to achieve by means of a large decrease in surface tension, a greater height of lifting of the absorbent solution in the hair coating.
Only in specific cases, by means of the difference in size of the capillaries, it is possible to direct the direction of the flow of flow which occurs from the lowest capillary depression to the highest, for the start of the siphon.
All this is not normally necessary since when filling the cooler, the coating is always soiled with solution and the slightest hydrostatic depression "h" will determine the start-up and for any period of non-use of the device, the siphon , once started, will remain such, since the capillary coating will always be in contact with the liquid in a closed chamber and saturated with vapors that prevent
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
all evaporation.
The siphon effect, by allowing the ratio: transverse circulation - longitudinal flow to be raised a great deal, and for this reason, with the reduction in height of the absorber, 'reduce the lifting force of the ammonia solution. lean acal also has the advantage of allowing the lean ammonia solution to be evenly distributed over the entire length of the coating, which is extremely difficult to achieve in any other way.
Some of the embodiments of the invention have been illustrated, by way of example only, in the accompanying drawings, where further features of the invention itself have been set forth.

OPERATION OF THE DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES
OF ACHIEVEMENT.
FIGURES 1,6 and 7.- In this exemplary embodiment of the invention which relates to the circulation of the ammoniacal solution * -in an absorber where the siphon effect occurs by suction.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
central tion and lateral sypetric reflux, the operation is as follows:
The poor ammoniacal solution which comes from the reboiler (which does not appear in the figure) is introduced through line 9 into the narrow and long distribution bowl 3 where the edges of the capillary coating 4 are immersed, which entirely envelops the interior. of tube 1, the lower part of the capillary coating 4, being at a level lower than that of the poor ammoniacal solution of the cuvette 3, determines by siphon effect a vigorous recall of the solution of the cuvette 3, which thus rises axially to then descend symmetrically from both sides and over the entire length of the absorber.
Since the hydrostatic depression "h" can easily be obtained constant for the entire length of the absorber, the siphon effect will be practically constant over this entire length and for this reason there will be a homogeneous transverse circulation, if, on the other hand, in in certain cases, the circulation must increase or decrease gradually from one end of the absorber to the other, that is to say from where the rich gas mixture enters or from where the poor gas mixture comes out, it will suffice to vary the height of the hydrostatic depression "h", by the inclination of the tube.
This result presupposes that the discharge of the siphon takes place in the liquid veil which flows on the bottom of the tube which is included in the capillary mass, so as to follow the possible inclination of the tube while the liquid in the cuvette remains horizontal. .
The rich gas mixture which leaves the gas exchanger 12 (of which fig. 6) enters through tube 11 into the rear end 18 of the absorber and either finds the capillary mass soaked in ammoniacal solution, which circulates transversely either the capillary mass soaked in ammoniacal solution, which circulates transversely or the vertical and central mass or the ammoniacal solution is sucked from the cuvette 3. The gas mixture
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
gets depleted, as it advances towards the front part 17, until it leaves completely depleted through tube 8 and then enters through the gas exchanger 12 (fig. 6) inside evaporator 16 (fig. 8).
On the other hand, the poor ammoniacal solution 9 which, as has already been said, enters via the rear part 17, produces in countercurrent, the gas mixture and is gradually enriched to exit saturated by the end 18, by the tube 10, goes through the liquid exchanger, into the reboiler (both not shown in the figure) and becomes depleted again.
FIGURES 8,9,10 and II.- The following example of embodiment of the invention relates to the circulation of liquid ammonia in an evaporator where the siphon effect occurs as in the preceding example, that is- ie central aspiration, lateral symmetrical reflux.
The liquid ammonia 13 (fig. 8) which comes from the condenser - not shown in the figure - enters the gas exchanger 12, will feed the collection and distribution basin 3 where the edges of the capillary coating 4 of the tube are immersed. 1 of the evaporator 16. The siphon effect produces suction and transverse circulation, as in the previous example, thus allowing the ammonia, which circulates uniformly in the capillary coating, to evaporate with great intensity. thanks to the capillary action of the surface between the liquid and the lean ammonia gas 8, which comes from the absorber 15 (fig. 6) and which after passing through the gas exchanger 12 (fig. 8) opens into the front part 19 of the evaporator 16.
The lean gas mixture in its path from the front 19 of the evaporator to the rear, is gradually enriched by the ammonia which evaporates from the capillary coating 4 and leaves saturated with ammonia 11, passes through the exchanger gas 12 and enters the absorber 15 (fig.6) where it becomes depleted again.
The very intense evaporation that occurs allows
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
, to reduce in an extraordinary way the diameter of the evaporator and for this reason to obtain a rational production of the cold which develops at an extremely low temperature in the front part 19 of the evaporator where the pressure passes. The rate of hydrogen is maximum and has progressively lower temperatures as one approaches the rear part of the evaporator where the pressure of the auxiliary gas has become minimal.
Such rational production of cold, in a horizontal evaporator formed by a single arm makes it possible to fix the freezer with cooling plate 7 '(fig. 10 and 11) on the front colder part 19 of the evaporator, in the area where the partial pressure of hydrogen is maximum and to fix on the rear part 20 of the same evaporator that is to say on the less cold part, the radiator for the refrigeration of the air of the cabinet which has no need, as for freezing water at a very low temperature - the ice cream cups are placed in spaces 6 of the freezer 7 '(fig, 10. and 11) which carries to the upper part a cooling tray for the food.
The plate has an edge 21, for the formation of a zone of cold static air on the plate which prevents, while opening the panel of the freezer compartment, the inflow of external hot air on the cooling plate where are the foodstuffs placed? . FIGURE 2. The following exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to the circulation of the ammoniacal solution in an absorber (or in a similar manner, the circulation of ammonia in an evaporator) in which the The siphon effect occurs by lateral suction and similarly lateral reflux.
The operation is as follows:
The poor ammoniacal solution enters the cuvette, distribution 3 through line 9, is absorbed from the side
22 and dropped from the side of the absorber. A transverse circulation is thus produced, the intensity of which is regulated

¯ by the hydrostatic depression "h", produced by the difference between the upper level yy 'of the poor solution and the level xx' of the unloading of the rich solution 10. The gaseous mixture rich in ammonia enters the absorber through the tube 11 and leaves it through tube 8 completely depleted.
FIGURE 3. - This exemplary embodiment of the invention which relates to the circulation of liquid ammonia in a hollow evaporator (or similarly the circulation of the ammoniacal solution in an absorber) is characterized by the particularity of a same hydrostatic depression "h" one obtains the transport by siphon effect of the liquid ammonia on the two capillary surfaces 4 and 5 which surround the tube 1 and the tube 2. The cold produced in the vaporizer is transmitted to 1 ' cabinet by the cooling fins 7 which surround the tube at the bottom and at the sides, while at the top there is a tray on which the foodstuffs can be placed for their refrigeration in direct contact.
FIGURE 4.- This exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to the circulation of the ammoniacal solution in an absorber (or the circulation of liquid ammonia in an evaporator) which occurs in a manner exactly opposite to the manner described in figure 1, that is to say with suction for the transverse circulation and with drop for the central vertical part.
FIGURE 5.- This exemplary embodiment of the invention relates to the circulation of the solution in an absorber with two tubes (or the circulation of liquid ammonia in an evaporator) and is characterized by the presence of a transverse circulation through siphon effect similar to that of fig.l on the capillary coating 4 of the tube 1 and a transverse circulation by gravity or by simple capillary action in the coating 5 of the inner tube 2.
The operation is as follows;
The poor ammoniacal solution is absorbed from the tank.

vette 3 and dropped transversely because of the siphon effect reinforced by the hydrostatic depression "h" between the line yy 'and the unloading line xx' but in the bowl there are two other autonomous candles 23 and 24 which supply from the top and by its own reduced siphon effect, that is to say with the least hydrostatic depression "h" both sides of the capillary coating 5 of the tube 2 and the liquid of the two candles falls by gravity to the bottom of the absorber.
If the liquid contained in the cuvette is not sufficient to supply the entire capillary surface 5 from the top, which can easily happen in a hollow evaporator, then it is necessary to recall by simple capillarity the non-evaporated liquid which falls on the bottom of the evaporator of the capillary mass 4. A transverse circulation by the siphon effect integrated by a transverse circulation by gravity and by transverse circulation in suction by simple capillarity is thus obtained.
The present invention has been illustrated and described in a preferred embodiment, but it is understood that in practice it will be possible to provide construction variants without going beyond the limits of protection of this industrial patent.
