BREVET D'INVENTION
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Les dispositifs qui ont été utilisés jusqu'à présent comportent, d'une part une spirale d'allumage chauffée élec- triquement et placée à l'intérieur du brûleur et, d'autre part, un moteur électrique charge de l'alimentation du brû leur en combustible et en air de combustion. Dans ces appa- reils, l'allumage est généralement réalisa en trdis pnases;
1 - La spire,le d'allumage est chauffée élcctri- quement au rouge vif sans alimentation en combustible pen dant temps dant un temps T1 ;
2 -Le moteur électrique actionnant la pompe ou le distributeur qui envoie du combustible sur la spirale chauffée et qui actionne le ventilateur soufflant l'air de combustion dans le brûleur est mis on Marche à la fin du temps T1, la spirale continuant à être alimentée en courant électrique pendant un temps T;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
1 - l'allumage rationnel ou l'extinction de l'appareil de chauffage est commandé automatiquement par la température du local à chauffer et en position d'extinction l'alimentation du b'rûleur en combustible et en air de combustion doit cesser;

Apres recherche des causes du raté, un opérateur peut annuler le blocage et provoquer un nouvel allumage ;

verture, par le contact 15a, du circuit de la spirale d'al- lumage 2) et d'autre part, par son contact 21b, l'excita- tion du relais 12 si le contact du thermostat 6 est en position de repos et se maintenant en état d'auto-excita- tion grâce à son contact de maintien 21c, même si le con- tact lla quittait sa position de repos par suite de vibra- tions mécaniques par exemple ; est à remarquer que le rôle du quatrième contact 21d du relais 21 est de contrôler que le relais 21 n'est pas excité au début du cycle d'allumage pour permettre au contacteur 15 de s'exciter et à son con- tact 15a de fermer le circuit de la spirale d'allumage 2;

de travail;
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

PATENT
Method and device for electric control and monitoring for heaters using liquid fuel or the like.
The present invention relates to an electrical command and control device for heating appliances using a liquid fuel such as mineral, animal or vegetable oil or gasoline and in particular "gas oil",
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The devices which have been used up to now comprise, on the one hand, an ignition spiral heated electrically and placed inside the burner and, on the other hand, an electric motor responsible for supplying the burner. their fuel and combustion air. In these devices, the ignition is generally carried out in very small steps;
1 - The coil, the ignition is heated electrically to bright red without fuel supply for a time T1;
2 -The electric motor actuating the pump or the distributor which sends fuel to the heated spiral and which actuates the fan blowing the combustion air into the burner is turned on at the end of time T1, the spiral continuing to be supplied in electric current for a time T;
3 - The heating current of the spiral is cut at the end of time T2, while the electric motor uses to supply the burner continues to operate, combustion being maintained automatically if there has been no misfire ignition.
If there has been an ignition failure, the system is automatically blocked, with fuel supply stopping, after a time T.
3
In the devices in question, the succession of ignition and control operations is generally obtained at fixed time intervals by the slow rotation and at constant speed of a multiple contact switch driven either by an electric motor or by a movement of watchmaking responsible for establishing and cutting various electrical circuits at specific times. The going, their times
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
T1, T2 and T3 shown above are, for example, 85 seconds, 75 seconds and 55 seconds respectively.
Now, the current source is generally a lead-acid storage battery, the voltage of which can vary, for example, from 20 volts (battery completely discharged) to 30 volts (battery having just been fully charged). Voltages with an average value of 72 volts were also used.
For the values of the voltages at the extreme limits, the ignition spiral extinguishes the bright red in very different times: 18 seconds under 30 volts against 60 seconds under 20 volts. Such a fixed time device therefore has the drawbacks of unnecessary loss of time in ignition, harmful consumption of electrical energy, the danger of misfiring when the battery is discharged and excessive wear of the battery. spiral when the battery has just been charged.
The accessory arrangement by which an additional resistance is sometimes inserted into the spiral circuit as soon as the battery voltage exceeds the average only provides a palliative for the first two drawbacks but on the other hand exaggerates the first two.
The present invention, due to the work of Mr. Pierre LAZE, relates to a device making it possible to remedy the drawbacks which have just been pointed out and which meet the following conditions:
1 - rational ignition or extinction of the heating device is automatically controlled by the temperature of the room to be heated and in the extinguishing position the supply of fuel and combustion air to the burner must cease;

we determine the. duration of time T, i.e. the time during which the spiral is heated without alienating coca-bustible from the burner, according to the speed at which the spiral heats up depending on the state of the battery accumulator.

aunt whatever the voltage of the current source.
For the implementation of these two characteristics, a thermal relay is used, in accordance with the invention, the excitation time of which corresponds to the time T1 and of which the time for its contact to return to the idle state, after switching off the current in its heating element, corresponds to time T2.
According to the invention also, said thermal relay is a relay with bimetal and heating element in which the travel of the bimetal contact, as well as the characteristics of the bimetal and of said heating element are calculated so as to obtain the same thermal inertia as that of the ignition spiral.
According to another characteristic of the invention, a voltmeter relay intervenes at the end of time t1 to insert an additional resistance into the circuit of the heating coil if the voltage is greater than a given voltage (24 volts for example).
According to another characteristic of the invention, a second thermal relay is used to block the system in the event of a misfire, which is energized at the end of T2 and whose excitation time corresponds to the time T, to the the end of which must block the contact system of this relay being placed in the circuit of the blocking control relay.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the disp.ositif comprises a light signaling with three colored LEDs which is used to control the operation of the various organs and to know the phase of the cycle in progress.

opening, by contact 15a, of the ignition coil circuit 2) and on the other hand, by its contact 21b, the energization of relay 12 if the thermostat contact 6 is in the rest position and maintaining itself in a self-excited state by virtue of its maintaining contact 21c, even if the contact 11a leaves its rest position as a result of mechanical vibrations for example; It should be noted that the role of the fourth contact 21d of the relay 21 is to check that the relay 21 is not energized at the start of the ignition cycle to allow the contactor 15 to be energized and its contact 15a to close the ignition spiral circuit 2;
- 22 designates a third auxiliary relay which is only energized if the contact of thermostat 6 has remained in the rest position (following a misfire) and that when contact 12a of thermal relay 12 is switched on. closes, that is to say at the end of time T, the excitation of relay 22 materializing the blocking of the system by opening its contacts 22a and 22b, which cuts off the power supply to contactors 15 and 16, relays 19, 20 and 21 and thermal relays 11 and 12; however the relay. 22 is kept in a self-excited state thanks to its maintaining contact 22c as long as the circuit is not cut by the action exerted on the push button 10.
In order to prevent the operating times of thermal relays from being influenced by the ambient temperature, these are implemented in the well-known form of "compensated thermal relays". In addition, to ensure that their operating characteristics are preserved, their heating elements are only energized for the time strictly necessary to establish contact.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
working;
as soon as this contact is established, the current is cut by an auxiliary relay, as on. saw this in the above, and the cooling thermal relay returns freely to. rest position.
In the event of an accidental interruption or supply current, the various device components return to rest and are ready for re-ignition upon return of the current. This has an additional advantage over the previous rotary contactor system which had to be released and had to complete the current cycle before starting a new cycle.
The current of the bimetal contact of relay 11 and the characteristics of the bimetal and its heating element are calculated so as to obtain the same calorific inertia as that of the ignition spiral. Thus, at a voltage of 20 volts, for example, the contact 11a coming into the working position causes the arrival of fuel after 85 seconds, as in the previous system with a rotating contactor, but at 30 volts, it causes the same effect from the 22nd second ', which saves 63 seconds of current consumption and fatigue of the ignition coil 2.
Of course, these figures are given only as examples in order to clearly highlight one of the advantages offered by the present invention over the input system.
It should be noted that the return time of thermal relay 11 (time T2) is a constant of this relay, fixed, for a given travel of the bimetal contact, by the characteristics of the radiation of the bimetal. Test duration
2 therefore kept constant whatever the voltage of the. Power source.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
It can also be seen, from the preceding description, that the full voltage of the current source is applied to the ignition spiral 2, during the time T1, which has the effect of bringing it to red very quickly. , while, during the time, T2, is inserted, thanks to the contact 19a controlled by the relay 19; in the circuit of said spiral, the additional resistor 18 if the voltage is greater than 24 volts (condition for the voltmeter relay 19 to be energized).
It should be noted that the thermostats 5 and 6, instead of being placed in the flue gas discharge duct, at the burner outlet, could, if desired, be placed in the heated air duct. at the burner outlet,
The operation of the device shown in FIG. 1 and described in the foregoing will now be briefly described.
To start the installation, we start to close the main switch.
1 - Immediately the circuit of contactor 15 is established which is as follows: switch 1, rest contacts of thermostats 4 and 5, rest contact 22a of blocking relay 22, rest contact 21a of relay 21 and contactor 15. L excitation of this contactor determines the closing of its contact 15a and establishes the following circuit for supplying the ignition coil 2; Switch 1, contact 15a closed, contact 19a for rest of relay 19, resistor 17 and spiral 2.
The spiral is therefore ignited and at the same time the blade 8 mounted in parallel with the resistance. 17 lights up.

The energization of the relay 20 brings the contact 20a in position (the work, which, on the one hand, cuts off the energization of the relay 11 and, on the other hand, establishes the circuit of the contactor 16:

Thus, at the end of time T, the burner is energized, while the spiral remains on.
But, as relay 11 has ceased to be energized, as has been said, its contact 11a will fall back to posi-

at rest at the end of time T2; despite this, relay 20 remains energized by the following holding circuit: Switch 1, rest contacts of thermostats 4 and 5, rest contact 22a of relay 22, work contact 2oa- and relay 20.
The fall of contact 11a in the rest position causes, at the same time, the excitation of relay 21 by the following circuit: Switch 1, rest contacts of thermostats 4 and 5, rest contact 22a of relay 22, work 20a of relay 20, rest contact 11a of relay 11, work contact 20 ± of relay 20 and relay 21.
The energization of the relay 21 determines the opening of its contact 21a and consequently the rupture of the excitation circuit of the contactor 15, which causes the opening of the contactor 15 and thus interrupts, at 15a, the supply circuit of the ignition spiral 2.
Thus, at the end of time T, spiral 2 ceases to be ignited and combustion continues by itself, the burner continuing to be suckled by motor 3, since contactor 16 continues to be energized. , and its contact 16a to be closed.
As a result of the operation of the thermostat 6, placed in the flue gas discharge duct, its contact comes into the working position and the lamp 9 lights up, which indicates that combustion is normal.
If, on the contrary, a misfire occurs, the temperature of the gases evacuated at the outlet of the burner is insufficient to operate the thermostat 6 and its contact remains in the rest position. Under these conditions

Of course, modifications could be made in the details of the embodiments of the devices described and shown, without the general economy of the invention being thereby impaired.
Of course also, the devices described and shown, although described in their application to heating devices using a fuel-liquid, could possibly be applied to installations using, for example, pulverized fuels, with modifications of detail that this change of fuel could entail.
