Appareil vibrant,
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Vibrating device,
The present invention relates to improvements in vibrating apparatus of the type whereby a rotating member attached to one end of a rotating shaft performs planetary motion in contact with a surface of revolution provided within the shaft. 'a cylindrical envelope, said shaft being fixed by a journal only at another end, and the shaft and the rotary member thus form a conical pendulum.
In general, in such vibrating devices, either the pendulum shaft is articulated by means of a spherical ball bearing or the like, or it is connected to a motor shaft by means of a universal joint. .
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Neither of these embodiments has, however, been found to be satisfactory, since they are both subject to ranid wear, due to the high rotational speed achieved in such devices.
Furthermore, by using a spherical ball bearing, obtaining sufficient tamping with respect to the interior (The casing has proved to be practically impossible,
According to the invention, the drawbacks recalled above are completely eliminated, owing to the fact that the end of the journal-forming shaft is rigid, and is guaranteed against any radial displacement while the remaining part of the shaft is flexible or elastic, and therefore allows the planetary movement of the rotary member.
Preferably, the rigid shaft end is supported by two bearings and for example by ball bearings, spaces one from the other and thus serving as a guide for said end.
Its rigidity prevents any elastic deformation in the bearings.
The vibrating device, according to the invention, not comprising any coupling element, or similar device, particularly subject to wear, has a longer life, appreciably, than the embodiments according to the prior principles.
To ensure a reasonable life for bearings or universal joints, in previously known equipment, the frequency (that is to say the number of oscillations made by the rotating member during a unit of time) and the centrifugal force do not could reach values as high as desired.
The apparatus produced according to the invention allows a
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
operation at a considerably higher speed, and with a centrifugal force than before, and furthermore the sealing problems are simply eliminated because the rotary shaft is guided, and does not oscillate at the point of attachment.
In the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 show, in the form of sections, two embodiments of the apparatus, according to the invention. Similar notations refer to the corresponding details of the figures.
The vibrating member or envelope comprises a tubular member or cylinder 1 in the end of which this member forming the bottom 2 is mounted.
This two-part construction is a simple matter of ease, from a manufacturer's point of view. The thicker outer end 3 of the movable shaft is guided by two ball bearings 10 arranged at a certain distance from one. on the other in the outer part of the casing.
The thicker end of the shaft has a diameter large enough to prevent elastic deformation in the bearings.
As a result, said portion of the axis is centered and directed parallel to the longitudinal axis of the envelope.
A packing already known per se and not shown in the drawings may be provided in the inner bearing to prevent the lubricant used in the bearings from flowing into the casing.
The axle portion 4 located inside the bearings 10 has a smaller diameter to allow the desired elasticity or flexibility, and at its lower end it carries a rotating member 8 which is designed in the usual way ,, to drive on a surface 9 of revo-

Obviously, more than one organ of this species can be provided, if desired.
In Figure 1, we have. shown such a support member 5, designed to roll on the inner surface 6 of a ring 7 inserted in the casing 1.- In general, only one support member is used, and, as indicated Figure 1, the latter is then placed at a distance from the rotary member 8 which is in substance 1/3 the length of the flexible shaft 4.
As easily confirmed by a mathematical calculation, the relation between the circumference of the movable member 8, and its contact surface 9 can be. same as the, relation between the circumferences of the support member 5 and its. contact surface 6, and this; in order to maintain substantially the same frequency for the two members 5 and 8, thus avoiding any sliding between the surfaces coming into contact with one another.
In addition, the diameter of the member 8 and that of the member 5 can be determined relative to each other so as to create the lowest possible tensions in the rotary tree, when said members are rolling on
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the corresponding surfaces of revolution, in normal operation.
In Figure 2, there is shown another embodiment according to the invention.
The envelope 11 is shown here as produced in one piece but it can obviously also include two separate parts, as shown in Figure 1.- In accordance with this embodiment las rota members, tifs 5 and 8 are rigidly assembled one to the other, for example by means of a tubular member 12 welded to said members' 5 and 8. The connecting member can also have any other shape. - In this way, said members will act as a single assembly having two separate contact surfaces.
If desired, this construction can also be made in the same block of material.
As shown in Figure 2, the members 5 and 8, rigidly connected to each other, roll respectively on the two surfaces of revolution. 6 and 9.
The two bodies, however, can roll on a common surface, provided that their respective distance is not too great.
A fairly heavy assembly, such as that shown in Figure 2 ', can be particularly advantageous' when the difference between the diameters of the two members 5 and 8, and the diameters of their contact surfaces is not too great, and that on the other hand, the elastic shaft is relatively long.- In such a case, very efficient vibrations will be obtained, without appreciably increasing the curvature of the axis.-
The construction, shown in figure 2, produces a stabilization of the movement of the pendulum at the same time as an essentially more even distribution of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
pressure along the contact surface (s), these arrangements ensuring more even wear.
In the vibrating apparatus used hitherto and having conical pendulums, the? generator of the surface of revolution., and the generator of the part of the rotary organ comes into contact with this surface, are generally directed towards the point of attachment of said pendulum, such as, for example, a spherical ball bearing, or a universal joint .
However, in a vibrating apparatus produced in accordance with the invention, the movable member and its shaft do not in reality form a conical pendulum, since said shaft is flexible or elastic, and in this case, said generators will therefore be directed towards a point located at a certain distance inside the bearings 10.
In the case where there is a flexible shaft between the members 5 and 3, according to Figure 1, the generatrices of the member 8 and of the corresponding surface 9 will not be directed towards the same point as the corresponding generatrices of the organ 5 and of the surface 6, but these last generators will be directed towards a point closer to the windings 10.
There is. Note that the apparatus as described and shown herein is for illustrative purposes, and that various changes and modifications may be made thereto, without altering the spirit and scope of the invention, such as they are set out in the appended claims.
