Fig. 1 montre schématiquement une vue en coupe longitudinale des appareils pour la commande d'un cylindre moteur ;
Fig. 2 montre schématiquement l'application de l'invention pour la commande de deux cylindres moteurs ;
Fig. 3 est une vue de face du tableau de commande formé sur un des côtés d'un carter groupant les appareils de Fig. 2 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"Pressure fluid regulator and distributor"
The invention relates to regulating and distributing devices for pressurized fluid and particularly relates to improvements made in the production of said devices.
Such devices are used especially for controlling the pressure in engine cylinders intended to develop a constant force on the calender rolls of paper mills or other similar machines.
In the known installations of this kind, the admission and the exhaust of the fluid in the engine cylinders, as well as the regulation of the pressure of the fluid in the latter, are carried out using multiple devices, separate one on the other but interconnected by the fluid pipes.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved device for distributing and regulating fluid, in which the dif-

different devices are grouped together to allow simultaneous control and easy pressure control.
According to the invention, the device comprises a regulator intended to maintain, at a constant and adjustable value at will, the pressure of the fluid delivered and introduced into '' two three-way valves, coupled and controlled simultaneously, to control the admission. and the escape of the fluid into the motor system, said regulator and said valves being set up to be arranged in a protective casing provided with a panel carrying the various control members of said devices, as well as control means. visual pressure check:
By way of example, an embodiment of the invention will be described below, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 schematically shows a view in longitudinal section of the apparatus for controlling an engine cylinder;
Fig. 2 schematically shows the application of the invention for the control of two engine cylinders;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the control panel formed on one of the sides of a casing grouping the devices of FIG. 2;
Fig. 4 is a side view of the housing of FIG. 3.
As shown in Fig. 1, the regulator 1 is connected on the one hand to a compressed air tank 2 and, on the other hand, to a double valve 3 and 4 for applying the pressure, This double valve is joined to the motor system, by example respectively to the chambers 4 'and 5 of a motor cylinder 6, the piston 5' of which is intended to impart a determined and constant pressure to a machine element.
The regulator 1 consists of a body 7 comprising two chambers 8 and 9, separated by a diaphragm 10 supporting a valve seat 11, on which is applied an exhaust valve 12. The diaphragm 10 is biased towards the right. by a spring 13. An intake valve 14, biased on

its seat by a spring 15, isolates the reservoir 2 from the chamber 8.
The exhaust valve 12 is provided with a rod 16 provided with a stopper 17, which limits the movement of this valve, urged towards it. right by the spring 18. A lever 19 is articulated at 20, on the body 7. The end of this lever is joined by a spring 21, at a fixed point 22, of the regulator. The lever 23 pivots, at 24, on the lever 19. The lower end 25 of the lever 23 rests on a hollow extension 26 of the valve seat 11, which is provided with openings 27, opening at the bottom. atmosphere. The other end of the lever 23 is supported on a rod 28, which can move longitudinally by rotation of the control wheel 29. A pressure gauge 30 connected to the chamber 8 indicates: the operating pressure, while a manometer 30 'indicates the pressure in the tank.
The double valve consists of the body 31 in which are provided two intake valves 32-32 'biased on their respective seats 33 and 33' by the springs 34 and 34 ', constituting on the one hand the chambers 35-35' and 36-36 'in constant communication with chamber 8 of regulator 1 and, on the other hand, with chambers 37-37' in communication respectively with chambers 4 'and 5 of cylinder 6. Two exhaust valves 38 -3 $ 'extended by a rod 39-39', provided with stops 40-40 'and stressed by the springs 41-41', can be applied on seats 42-42 'provided in the hollow pushrods 43-43' , which are provided with an extension 44-44 ', on which come to act cams 45-45', mounted on a shaft 46, controlled by the lever 47.
The pushers 43-43 'are provided with openings 52-52', opening to the atmosphere and are constantly urged against the cams 45-45 'by the springs 48-48'.
Cams 45-45 'are arranged such that one chamber of cylinder 6 is in communication with the atmosphere, while the other is in communication with the source of fluid.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The arrangement of the cams is also intended to achieve a neutral position of the installation, that is to say that the suction and exhaust valves are closed at the same time so that the chambers 4 'and 5 of the cylinder 6 are isolated from the source of fluid and the atmosphere.
The device operates as follows:
Before starting, the valve 14 of the regulator isolates the compressed air tank 2 from the hinge 8, the latter being in communication with the atmosphere. The control lever 47 of the double valve 3-4 is placed in the neutral position, that is, the valves 32 and 32 ', 38 and 38', are applied to their respective seats.
The pressure determined for the operation of the installation is then established. To this end, one acts on the flywheel 29 in the direction of clockwise, which causes the longitudinal displacement of the rod 28, which acts on the lever 23 at point 53; the lever 23 pivots at point 24 of the lever 19 and pushes, by its lower end 25, on the pusher 26, integral with the membrane 10; the seat of the valve 11 comes to rest on the valve 12, thus isolating the chamber 8 from the atmosphere. Continuing to operate the flywheel 29, the rod 16, extending the valve 12, acts on the intake valve 14 in the opening direction, so that the compressed air tank 2 is put into operation. communication with the room 8.
If, at this moment, the maneuvering of the handwheel 29 is stopped, the compressed air contained in the chamber 8 will urge the membrane 10 and, consequently the pusher 26, to the right, driving the point 25 of the lever 23, which pivots in 53. The lever 19 is also pushed to the right by the point 24, which connects it to the lever 23, by acting on the spring 21. This movement will continue until the valve 14 has returned to its seat. At this time, both valves 12 and 14 are closed and the system will remain in equilibrium as long as
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
that point 53 of lever 23 will not be modified. The pressure existing in the chamber 8 will be maintained automatically as long as the lever system 19 and 23 remains in equilibrium under the action of the compressed air acting on the membrane 10 and the tension of the spring 21.
As the pivot 53 remains fixed and the tension of the spring 21 constant for a determined position of the lever '
23, any variation in the pressure of the compressed air in the chamber 8 will have the immediate effect of actuating one or the other of the valves 12 or 14 depending on whether the pressure increases or decreases so as to constantly maintain the pressure. 'balance of the lever system and therefore constant pressure in chamber 8.
The same effects as those mentioned above to graduate
The increase in pressure in chamber 8 will be repeated when the handwheel 29 is operated in an anti-clockwise direction, so as to gradually decrease the pressure in chamber 8. It is noted that the pressure in the chamber 8 is increased. compressed air pressure in chamber 8 is adjustable and progressive both in the upward direction and in the downward direction.
The regulator described above is combined with a double valve or distributor system allowing compressed air to be distributed into the chamber of a suitable engine cylinder. The operation of this distributor is as follows:
The control lever 47 being placed in the neutral position, the arrangement of the control cams 45 and 45 'is such. that the valves 38-38 'and 32-32' are applied to their respective seats, so that the compressed air arriving from the regulator 1 in the chambers 35-35 'through the pipe 49 is stopped, in said chambers.
If you want to exert pressure on the piston 6 'of cylinder 6, the control lever 47 will be placed in the corresponding tightening position, By the cam system 45-45', the valve
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
32 'will be opened, putting in communication the chamber 36' with the 'chamber 37', the pipe 50 and the chamber 5 of the cylinder 6, while the opposite chamber 4 of the cylinder 6 is brought into communication with the atmosphere by the pipe 51, the chamber 37 and the central duct of the pusher 44. The pressure is then established in the chamber 5 and is automatically kept constant by the regulator 1. It is therefore possible to vary the pressure in the chamber 5 of the cylinder 6 by regulating the pressure of the compressed air by the regulator.
To relieve the pressure of the piston 6 'on the machine member, the control lever 47 is placed in the unclamped position. At this time, the arrangement of cams 45-45 'will close valve 38 and open valve 32, while valve 32' will close and valve 38 'will open so as to place chamber 4' in communication with the valve. source of compressed air through pipe 51, while chamber 5 is placed in communication with the atmosphere.
The device makes it possible to partially reduce the pressure on the machine member by placing the control lever in the neutral position, after having allowed a certain quantity of air to escape from one or the other cylinder chamber 6.
When the device according to the invention is intended to be applied, for example, to the calender rolls of paper mills, the device comprises two regulating and distributing groups A and B, which are identical, each controlling one of the rolls acting on the cylinders. ends of said rolls. Fig. 2 of the drawings shows the union of these two groups.
In this Fig. 2, each of said groups comprises a regulator and a pressurized fluid distributor so that the pressure developed in the cylinders can optionally be modified in one of these. The distributor valves of the two groups are controlled simultaneously by the lever 47,
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
actuating the shaft 46, which comprises, in this case, two carnes
45 and two diametrically opposed cams 45 '.
All the regulating and distributing devices, as well as the pressure gauges, are assembled in a protective casing 54 (Fig. 3 and 4) provided on one of its faces with a control panel 55 for controlling and monitoring the pressure of the valve. fluid in each group. This table comprises the lever 47 ,, the levers 29 and the two manometers 30 and the manometer 30 '. This grouped arrangement of the various devices and controls allows the device to be checked quickly and easily.
