" POINTE D'OUTIL RAPPORTEE ET DISPOSITIFS POUR SA MISE EN
APPLICATION".
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

"REPORT TOOL POINT AND DEVICES FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION
APPLICATION".
The present patent relates to a tool tip intended to be attached to the end of the handles of hand or mechanically driven tools, such for example, those of hammers or other devices actuated by fluid under pressure, or electrically by means. devices suitable for this purpose.
The attached tool tip forming the subject of this patent is characterized on the one hand, by the order and the shapes of the internal bores forming the hollow or the recess of its central part, by the configuration with variant embodiments of the end of the handle or 'of the tool shank, by the presence of a connecting member between the elements listed above, which in some embodiments, is not essential and finally, by the blocking or fixing ensuring the connection of the assembly.
To this end, the sanding tool tip is presented in the most diverse forms and aspects in relation to its destination and has an internal hollow chamber provided with
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
its anterior end of a cylindrical chamber followed by a conical bore chamber diverges towards its posterior part, possibly replaced by a 'cylindrical bore chamber,' finally of a third chamber of an upper bore comprising an internal thread intended to receive re-engagement by threading of a nut engaged on the end of the rod or handle of the tool in question, threaded correspondingly on the outside and optionally split.
The nut may be split over its entire height or alone .. aent partly towards its front in the case where use is made of a special nut further comprising external thread intended for fixing the assembly. , a conical exterior part at the lower end of which is shaped an inwardly directed rim intended to form the retaining element thus being able to replace the envisaged connecting member.
The end of the handle or the tool shank is shaped so as to have a cylindrical end engaging in the corresponding bore of the anterior part of the attached tool tip, behind which end is arranged a part of the tool. a bore is either smaller or larger than the normal diameter of the handle or the tool shank depending on the type of the connecting member intervening between the attached tool tip and its shank or shank, finally this last part is followed towards lta .rrière of a diameter suitable for receiving the nut envisaged above.
The member: for connecting the attached tool tip and the handle or the tool shank envisaged above, is constituted for example by an extensible ring in diametral direction which can be produced either by a conical ring on the outside, provided with a slit extending longitudinally or obliquely over its entire length, either by a cylindrical ring slit obliquely or not over its entire height or by a strip of spring steel or other suitable material wound

Fig; 5 is an elevational view of the front split clamping nut used in Fig.4.
Fig.6 shows on the left, a half view in section and in elevation of another method of fixing the attached tool tip and on the right, a half view in elevation ,,
Fig.7 shows an elevation and plan view of the split clamping nut over its entire height.
Fig. 8 shows in elevation, on the left, a half section '
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and on the right a half view of the fixing elements as they appear before assembly, and fig.9 shows the assembly carried out in the final position.
FIG. 10 shows views in elevation and in plan of the connecting member in the form of a cylindrical ring slit obliquely, over its entire height ,,
Fig.II shows an elevational view of the connecting member, in an alternative embodiment, consisting of several turns of a cylindrical spring.
With reference to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, these represent a first embodiment of the device for fixing the tool tip. The attached tool tip is represented by I, 2 represents the fixing nut and 3 the intermediate connecting member, see fig. 3, engaged between the tool tip I and the tool handle or shank. 4. For this purpose, the tool tip 1 internally comprises a hollow or housing provided in its front part with a cylindrical compartment II intended to house the front end 41, also cylindrical, of the tool handle or shank 4.
Following the compartment II is arranged a compartment or conical chamber 12 in which the intermediate member 3 engages in the form of a conical ring provided with a slot 34 over its entire height), see fig.3.
Opposite the inner periphery of the conical chamber is placed the cylindrical part 42 with a diameter smaller than that of the handle or rod 4 and in the form of a circular groove or groove of length greater than that of the height. of the conical ring 3. The last compartment of the tool tip I is internally threaded at 13 to receive the locking nut 2 externally threaded at 21.
The procedure is as follows: introduce, see fig. 1, on the handle 4, first the nut 2, then the conical ring 3 and the front end 41 of the handle or the tool rod is engaged. 4 in .-- Compartment II of tip I.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The ring 3 is then slid so that it looks as shown in fig, I, then the nut 2 is started to be screwed.
By continuing to fully screw the nut 2, the final fixing position shown in fig.2 is obtained. In this operation, under the pressure exerted by the nut 2, the split ring 3 ends up closing on the cylindrical part 42 and 1: the seal is as shown in fig.2.
For disassembly, it suffices to unscrew the nut 2 as for the other variant embodiments which will be discussed below.
In FIGS. 4 and 5, the locking nut 2 also constitutes the connecting member between the attached tool tip I and the handle or shank of the tool. To this end, the nut 2 after its externally threaded part 21 is extended by a cylindrical part 22 followed by a conical part 23 intended to come into contact with the inner cone part 12 of the point I. On the inner face opposite the tapered outer part 23 of the nut 2 is provided an inner flange or flange 24. On the height of the cylindrical part 22 are formed slots 25 intended to allow the tightening of the end of the nut on the part 42 of the handle or rod of tool 3, when the nut 2 is fully screwed in, see the aroite part of fig. 4.
In another method of attachment shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the tool handle or shank 2 comprises a cylindrical part 43 with a diameter greater than that of the tool shank or shank itself as well as that its end 41 being housed in compartment II of the tool tip I.
The nut 2, see fig. 7, in addition to the external thread 21 is provided over its entire height with a slot 26 to allow, while covering, to be able to first slide it on the cylindrical part 43 of the handle 4 and then once passed ' this part 43, remain on the handle 4 from where then, when the latter is' engaged in the tool tip 1,
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
see fig. 6, it is fully screwed in and performs the fixing method shown on the left side of fig. 6,
Another embodiment of the method of securing the end is shown in fig.8,9,10.
In this execution, the intermediary link member. the shape of a cylindrical ring 31 provided over its entire height with an oblique slot 32, possibly straight, to allow it, by opening it, to be able to slide first on the part 41 of a greater diameter end of the handle or tool shank, then to close on part 42 of smaller diameter, or it then remains permanently engaged, see fig. 8.
EMI6.1
The assembly is then introduced as shown in fig.9 so that part 41 engages as previously in compartment II of tip I, part 42 with ring 31 in bore 14. The assembly is then fixed. by screwing the nut 2 which ensures complete fixing, see fig. 9, which. shows in section and in view the method of fixing produced.
Instead of the split ring 31 shown in fig. 10, it is also possible to make use, see fig. II, as a binding agent of a ring 33, which can be widened and closed, appearing for example under in the form of a suitable sheet steel strip, or equivalent, wound like a spring.
Under these conditions, the thickness of the strip or sheet intended to form the spring will be equal to the diameter of the part 14 minus the diameter of the part 42.
It goes without saying that in the variant embodiments of the fixing methods envisaged the internal diameters of the cylindrical parts of the sleeve or tool shank which must fit into the compartments or chambers of the attached tool tip will be provided so that the interlocking be done with the minimum of play as well as the internal diantre of the nut 2 will be established to satisfy it under the same conditions,
As already indicated, the tool tip can be machined and receive any shape appropriate to its destination and the handle
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
or tool shank may therefore be conditioned to be handled either by hand or mechanically.
In summary, it should be considered as within the scope of the scope of this patent, a tool tip attached to the end of a handle or a tool shank and devices by its implementation, characterized by the following:
CLAIMS
I) Tool tip attached and devices specific to its production, characterized in that it has interior. ment a hollow or housing provided in its anterior part with a cylindrical compartment, behind the latter, a conical compartment diverges towards the rear or -in a cylindrical compartment with a bore greater than the previous one and finally a third compartment provided an internal thread on which engages a locking nut;
which may be in different embodiments, sliding on the handle or tool shank and intended to cooperate $ with or without an appropriate connecting member, which may include different embodiments, arranged in the conical or cylindrical compartment of the tool tip, to the attachment of the tool tip attached to the end of the handle or shank of the tool.
