<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figure 1 est une vue de face en élévation du porte-bagage mi s en place;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Luggage rack for bicycle.
The present invention relates to a luggage carrier for a bicycle, made essentially of metal rods, assembled so as to be able to connect the luggage carrier on the one hand, to the axis of the rear wheel and on the other hand, at the rear fork of the frame.
One of the aims of the invention is to create such a luggage rack which is provided with elements or hooks for the attachment of a rope, string, cable, belt, etc ... intended to fix packages on the door. -baggage so as to prevent any sliding of the fasteners.
Another object of the invention is to create a luggage rack which can serve at the same time to block the rear wheel, that is to say to prevent the rotation of the latter when the bicycle is not in use. to prevent theft of the bicycle.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a luggage carrier of the above type which is of extremely simple construction, inexpensive, while being of sufficient strength and solidity. ..
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
These aims are achieved by a construction as shown in a non-limiting example of embodiment in the appended drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the luggage rack in place;
Figure 2 is an end view of the luggage rack alone; and Figure 3 is a top view.
The rack made of metal tubes of any cross section, comprises a peripheral part substantially rectangular in shape 1, which is open towards the front of the bicycle, its two branches 2 approaching at the front to come to be fixed, by their flattened end 3, to the tubes of the rear fork 4 of the bicycle frame. This fixing is effected by means of holes 5 provided, in these parts 3, for the passage of screws or tie rods not shown. The long sides of this rectangle 1 are braced by two rods 6 - 6 ', which are themselves assembled to each other by two or more rods 7 parallel to the long sides of the rectangle 1. The whole 6 - 6 '- 7, which can be fabricated in advance, is welded from below to the long sides of frame 1.
According to one of the characteristics of the invention, the transverse rods 6-6 'terminate at their two ends in a part curved towards the bottom in a hook 8 (fig./2) these hooks to be used for hooking and maintaining the ties used to secure any package or parcel to the luggage rack.
It will be understood that the number of these hooks can be modified and that, for example, similar hooks can be provided at one end of the rods 7 or, at the ends of the small rear side of the rectangle 1.
A cross member 6 is welded below a tube 9, parallel to this cross member and in which freely pilot the small cotéd'une part 10 which substantially affects the shape of a trapezoid whose large base would be removed. This part 10 constitutes the rear support thanks to which the luggage rack, held at 5, is supported horizontally, this support coming, through the flattened ends 11 of the two branches of the part 10, to be attached on either side to the axis of the rear wheel 12. This assembly is known in itself but the new point lies in that one of the branches of the part 10
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
carries a flat leg 13, provided with a hole 14 while the other branch carries, at the height of the leg 13, the pivot 15 of a rigid blade 16, the free end of which is provided with a hole 17 .
When the bicycle is at rest and it is desired to prevent an unauthorized person from using it, it suffices to pivot upwards the part 16 (fig. 2) so as to bring the holes 14 and 17 in correspondence and to introduce in these two holes the, .anse d'un ca- denas. The part 16, thus fixed transversely through the wheel 12, prevents the latter from turning. Part 16 must obviously be combined with a means that is easy to design to prevent it from tossing around when it is in the folded down position of FIG. 2, because it could then create accidents by coming into the path of the vehicles. wheel spokes 12.
Figure 2 shows, by way of example, a leaf spring 18 with a nose 19 fixed to the part 16, the nose resiliently engaging a projection or hook 20 of the corresponding branch of the part 10. Any other means can be used, which acts directly on the workpiece
16 or on the pivot, thereof to prevent the movement of this part. 21 designates a small tab provided on the transverse side of the frame 1 for fixing the rear red light.
