<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Portable device in the form of a padlock intended to prevent the movement or theft of an object.
The present invention relates to an apparatus intended to prevent the movement or theft of any object and more particularly applicable to bicycles and other similar devices.
It differs from certain known devices which, by their principle, must be permanently fixed, at least for the most part; example to the bicycle, in that it is portable and constitutes a device of small size and reduced weight which can be kept in a pocket.
It is constituted, in accordance with the invention, by a padlock comprising a body or envelope which takes around an assembly made up of two parts: one male and the other female, each fixed to one end of a or a chain, band, rope, cable, etc. and the male part comprises a notch or a thinned part serving to receive a stop usually subjected to the action of a spring and then no longer being able to be removed without slitting a key.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This padlock can advantageously be combined with the security device described and placed under protection in Belgian patent application No. 358,085 of December 15, 1945.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, how the invention can be carried out in practice.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view relating to a first embodiment.
The figure is a vertical sectional view relating to a second embodiment in which the object of the present invention has been combined with the safety device according to Belgian patent application No. 358. 085 of December 15, 1945.
Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line III-III in the figure.
Figure 4 is a detail view.
In Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, 1 designates the body of the device which encloses the closing device and which takes around an assembly consisting of two parts: one female and the other male 3 fixed both at the end of a chain, band, rope, cable etc. for example by means of an ear 4 provided with an orifice 5 for attaching the chain.
The male part has two cylindrical parts 6-7 moving inside the female part like a piston, the part ./ immediately following the member 4 for fixing one end of the chain and part 6 ending in a truncated cone 8, between 6 and '/ there is also a thinned part 9, for example with a frustoconical section. We could also provide a simple notch.
The female part 2 is held on the body 1 by a stop 10 which has an inclined face II which can cooperate with the inclined surfaces 12-13 respectively of the parts s and 9 of the male part and which is able to block the latter. in the position indicated in the drawings.

With the stopper 10, a screw 14 forms a body which can penetrate a tapping provided in an operating key 15 provided with a bead 151 bearing on a washer 16 closing a space 17 of the body 1 in which is located. a spring 18 maintaining the stopper 10 in the closed position.
A washer 19 is also provided, placed around the screw 13 and resting on the bottom of the space 17.
The operation of the device is as follows:
After having encircled with chain, cable, rope etc. the object to be immobilized, part 3 is introduced into part 2 which is integral with body 1; of this introduction, the stop read rises under the action of the surface 12 and under the effect of the spring 18 it then descends again to enter the empty space formed around the part 9 and to immobilize the part 3 which can no longer be removed without using the key 15.
To open or release part 3, the key 15 is introduced through a central hole in the washer 16 into the space 17 and this key engages by its tapping on the screw 14. This insertion is done until the bead 151 has come to rest on the fixed washer 16 closing the space 17 and from that moment, by continuing to rotate the key, the screw 14 and the stopper 10 rise. against the spring 18 which compresses.
It is thus possible to release the male part 3.
The removal of the key 15 causes the reinsertion of the stop 10 which is then again ready for automatic closing.
FIG. 2 relates to an alternative embodiment in which there is also a body 1, a female part 2 and a male part 3 comprising, just like in FIG. l, two cylindrical parts 6-7, one end part tron- @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
conical 8 and an intermediate part 9 of reduced diameter leaving around it a space in which a stop 10 engages. The parts 2 and 3 are each provided with an ear 4 for fastening one end of the chain, cable, etc.
As a locking member, use is made of a safety device of the type described in Belgian patent application No. 358,085 of December 15, 1945 by the same inventor, this device comprising the casing 1 inside which it. is a cylindrical part 22 with rotary movement, enclosing in a diametrical slot hollowed right through, the safety members constituted by strips 23 which can be driven in a sliding movement during the introduction of a key 24 so as to disengage them relative to longitudinal grooves 25-26 facing each other and occupying diametrically opposed positions in the casing 1.
The rotation of the cylindrical part 22 can only take place when all the slats 23 have been released and is only possible using a key 24 having a profile corresponding faithfully to a combination of well-determined profiles fixed by parts of these security features.
In the padlock application of the type described above, with the cylindrical part 22 is integral a part 27 (Fig. 2 and 3) which can participate in the rotation of this part 22; so as to be brought by its displacement in a circular groove 28 of the body 1, in front of the grooves 29 provided longitudinally in the latter; these grooves 29 are distinct from the grooves 25-26.
At the lower part of the part 22 is fixed by a pin 30 yn cylinder 31 dahs which can move like a piston a washer 32 integral with the stop 10 and extending by a rod 33 which can slide in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
a hollow 34 in the lower part of the part 22.
In the void 35 of the cylinder 31 is a spring 36 acting on the washer 32 and on the stop 10.
Under these conditions, when, after a partial rotation of the cylindrical body 22, the part 27 has arrived in front of the grooves 29, the assembly: 22, 23, 27, 31, 32, 33 10 is lifted under the thrust of 'a spring 37 and therefore the stop 10 releases the aâîe part 3.
To allow the possible closing, the key 24 is pressed so as to lower the assembly, against the spring 37, until the part 27 is in front of the circular groove 28 and the key 24 is then rotated until the latter can be removed.
On the other hand, when the matte part 3 is reintroduced into the female part 2, the part 8 lifts the stop 10 which compresses the spring 36 and which then falls back under the effect of the latter, in the vacuum formed around of part 9.
Figure 4 shows the casing 1 and the ears 4 to which the ends of the chain 38 are attached.
