!MEMOIRE DESCRIPTIF déposé à l'appui d'une DEMANDE DE BREVET H'INVENTION Monsieur Louis P U T Lance d'arrosage.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY filed in support of an INVENTION PATENT APPLICATION Mr. Louis P U T Sprinkler lance.
The present invention relates to the sprinkler lance comprising a hollow cylindrical body-preferably metallic, with a conical end for its. engagement in a flexible rubber, this body being equipped towards its other end with a closure member controlled from the outside and capable of ensuring a tight closure, or of providing passage to the stream of water under pressure to give , according to the positions of this organ or of another organ specially provided for a concentrated jet or a more or less dilated jet, spreading out in a fan or marna, a pulverized jet (watering in rain).
Watering lances of this type are generally complicated in construction and. have one or more jams, as well as a. certain nomiare of moving parts; except for certain very costly constructions, the tightness of such lances quickly leaves much to be desired; it is necessary to replace frequently the jams or certain moving parts subjected to strong wear.
The object of the invention is to eliminate all jams and to create a spray lance in two or three parts, of simple construction, and safe operation, in which (due to the very small number of parts) wear is practically zero, and where the only
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The part to be replaced is a simple washer of leather or better still of rubber, the replacement of which does not require any tools or skilled labor.
Essentially, the lance hollow body comprises, from the outlet side of the jet, a cavity or chamber open to the outside and in which is removably housed a sphere, for example made of copper, capable of being rotated by a certain angle around of its horizontal axis, by an external member, such as a lever wedged or welded to the axis of this ball. Said axis passes through diametrically opposed openings made in the cylindrical wall of the lance body.
This sphere is crossed by a narrow diametral channel; on the other hand, it is retained in the vertical direction, thanks to a bayonet shape of said lights, or thanks to a yoke at the * -de fixing so as to crush and deform a flexible washer, preferably rubber, housed in the bottom of said chamber. this bottom has at its central part a slight depression in which said washer is applied by the pressure of fixing the sphere.
Said bottom is provided with a central passage, covered by a central hole made in the flexible washer. In one position of the sphere, its diametrical channel exactly covers the hole of the washer, which gives a condensed jet; in another position (slightly modified), the two orifices only partially overlap, to give a dispersed jet, and, in a third position finally, the two orifices do not overlap at all and the washer, crushed by the sphere, perfectly sealed stuffing or shutter form.
The appended drawing represents two variant embodiments of a tella lance. fig.l is an axial section of the lance. fig.2 is an axial section of the lance, by a plane perpendicular to that of fig.l. fig. 3 is an elevational view. fig.4 is an elevational view of a variant.
The body 1 of the lance is generally cylindrical in shape, with a conical end 2 to be engaged in a flexible pipe. At its other end, the lance body has a chamber 3 open to the outside
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
and closed internally by a bottom 4 comprising a central part 5 slightly under vacuum, in which the opening 6 for the outlet of the pressurized liquid is formed. On the bottom 4 is placed a flexible washer 7 (preferably rubber) provided with a central hole 8 which covers the opening 6.
In the chamber 3 is housed a sphere 9 made of metal, for example, carried by two diametrically opposed journals 10, one of the journals being armed with a joystick 11. In the wall of the chamber 3 are formed two vertical slots 12-13, at least one of which is open from the top, to allow the sphere to be introduced into the chamber, its two pins being housed in these diametrically opposed slots.
The internal wall of the chamber 3 is, in the example of fig.l to 3, threaded for receiving the threaded part of a sleeve 14 with flange 15, by screwing this sleeve, the lower end thereof relied on both. journals 10 that it causes to descend into the slots 12-13, whereby the sphere 9, in contact with the washer 7, deforms the latter as shown in fig.l and 2, applying its central part to the part 5 in depression of the bottom 4, while the upper face of the washer exactly matches the shape of the sphere.
Therefore, the pressurized liquid passing through the opening 6 is. forced to go through hole 8 of the washer; any part of liquid which could escape laterally remains trapped in the depressed part of the bottom 4, and in turn acts to strongly apply the washer to the sphere.
The sphere 9 comprises a diametral channel 16 which, in a position of the sphere (fig.2) completely covers the opening 8 to give a condensed jet; for a slight angular movement of the sphere, the channel 16 only partially covers this opening 8, which gives a dispersed, sprayed jet, and for a 3rd position (fig.l) the channel 16 is perpendicular to the axis of the lance and the latter is hermetically closed, two stops can be provided for the control lever which, by their contact with the rim 15, determine the two extreme positions of fig.l and 2.
It is understood that the only wearing part is the flexible washer, the replacement of which does not require any special tool, nor any skilled labor.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The embodiment of fig.l to 3 comprises, in addition to the washer, three parts. This number can be further reduced to two, by removing the sleeve 14, as shown in fig.4. Here, the wall of chamber 3 is no longer threaded, the two diametrically opposed openings made in the wall of chamber 3 are both open from above and are in the form of brackets (bayonet closure 0.
The two journals 10 of the sphere 9 are introduced into the vertical parts of the slots, and, by strong manual pressure (to compress and deform the washer) they are made to descend to the horizontal part of the slots, in which they are engaged. (fig4).
In this example; it is good to take a flexible washer thicker than in the case of fig. 1 to 3.
