<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
Tool lifting mechanism for glass cutting machine.
The present invention relates to the control of
cutting tools in machines intended for cutting glass
in sheet. These tools, generally made of diamonds
cut or hard steel discs with a sharp edge at
their circumference, slide or roll on the surface of the glass
against which they are pressed with sufficient force to
draw a starting point called a "cut line"
It is essential that the tool, during its movement of
back, do not go over the line he marked in his race
active, under penalty of reducing the quality of the traced primer and
risk damaging the tool.
On the other hand, bringing the tool into contact with the
glass must be soft, because any impact has the effect of deteriorating
the cutting edge. In addition, if the tool falls suddenly on the glass ,,.
it bounces and the cutting line is irregular, vibrations
induced in the frame are transferred to the tool and the latter
traces in the glass a so-called "modulated" primer, that is to say of
variable depth and therefore not very effective. For the
same reason it is important to carefully avoid any other cause
tool vibration.
It is also necessary that the tool can be put momentarily
out of service to prevent it coming into contact with
foreign bodies either with defects or irregularities in the glass,
which could damage it.
It is known to achieve the gradual descent of
the tool by sliding a component attached to it on. *. A suitable inclination ramp and using a ratchet articulated to the tool holder to lock the latter during its
return stroke, but known devices of this kind do not
have neither flexibility nor sufficient security to
meet the various conditions set out above.
The object of the present invention is to satisfy these
conditions. Ramps are also used for this purpose.
to control the lifting of the tool and a ratchet for
nit the raised tool .; but instead of being mounted on the tool holder,
the locking pawl is mounted independently, so that its
reactions cannot interfere with the movements of the tool. On the other hand, instead of being rigidly attached to the organ which
engages the lifting ramps, the tool holder rests
freely on a part integral with this member, so that it
can, according to needs, be accelerated in its movement of
= 9 --- lifted and slowed down in its downward movement. Tool holder, lifting part and locking pawl are carried by the same support and articulated to it independently of one another, the support being able to be fixed or mobile depending on whether or not the sheet of glass moves during the cup.
Two embodiments of the mechanism according to the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing.
<EMI ID = 1.1>
is fixed to a lever 2 articulated on an axis 3 fixed on a movable support 4 which receives a movement parallel to the glass sheet. This support can have any suitable shape, for example that of a carriage driven by a rectilinear translation parallel to the sheet, if the latter is to be cut into tiles.
Normally the tool rests on the sheet of glass to be cut, either under the action of gravity, or under that of a spring 5. It can be raised and put out of action by a bent rod 6 integral with 'an axis 7 which can oscillate freely in two bearings 8 and 9 fixed to the support 4. On the axis 7 are fixed a lever 10 which controls its movements and an arm 11 which limits it.
<EMI ID = 2.1>
mounted on the support 4.
The end of the lever 10 carries a shoe 14 which meets a ramp 15 at the end of the active stroke of the movable support 4 accomplished in the direction of the arrow. and a ramp 16 at the end
of its return stroke, the direction of which is indicated by the arrow b. The inclination of these ramps is adjustable as a function of the cutting speed, so that the lifting speed of the tool and its descent speed towards the glass are sufficiently low. Their position is adjusted so that the tool is raised at both ends of its useful stroke.
In addition, the tool must be in contact with the glass during its entire active stroke and that it remains raised during the entire return stroke. For this purpose, the axis 7 has been provided with a lug 17 which is hooked by a pawl 18 when the lever 10, while climbing on the ramp 15, raised the tool when it arrived.
at the end of its active run.
The pawl 18 is articulated on a pin 19 fixed to the support 4 and it is continuously urged downwards by a spring 20 or by gravity, so that it cannot be released spontaneously, but tends to hook the lug 17 as soon as possible. let him come before him.
The tool therefore travels its return stroke in the direction of the arrow [pound] to the right of the ramp 16. At this time, while the shoe 14 is above the ramp 16 without coming into contact with it, the heel 21 of the pawl 18 meets a stop
22, which forces the pawl to pivot on its axis and release the lug 17. The latter escaping, allows the axis 7 to rotate until the shoe 14 hits the ramp 16 and goes up. along this while the tool return stroke ends:
The relative positions of the ramp 16 and of the stop 22 are determined in such a way that despite its descent following the fall of the shoe on the ramp, the tool does not come into contact with the glass sheet. The vibrations which may have been caused in the tool holder by this fall are damped during the end of stroke.
The support 4 moving in the opposite direction for the active stroke of the tool, the shoe 14 descends along the ramp 16 and at the same time the pawl 18 pivots around its axis 20 towards the lug 17. However, it cannot hang it, because when it has come close enough to the axis 7 to do so, the lug 17 will have exceeded its latching position and the pawl 18 will pass over the lug. The axis, 7 will turn freely until the limit imposed by the stop 12 and the tool 1 will come to rest on the glass which it will scratch over the entire length of its active stroke.
At the end of this stroke the shoe 14 is lifted by the ramp 15 and the rod 6 lifts the tool which remains held in its lifted position by the hooking of the lug 17 by the pawl 18.
If, to avoid contact of the tool with a defect in the lens, or for any other reason, you wish to put the tool out of service for part of the active stroke, it is sufficient to place at the corresponding place in the path of the shoe 14 a double slope ramp such as 23, the height of which is sufficient for the tools to leave the surface of the glass, but too low for the nose of the pawl 18 to engage the lug 17. Thus, the tools, in their active course, will not scratch the part of the sheet which corresponds in position and in size to the ramp 23. In the passive course, the shoe 14 will pass above the ramp 23 without touching it, since the pawl 18 and the lug 17 will be engaged.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
by a screw 24 which makes it possible to adjust its position relative to the ramp 16. It is also possible, as indicated in FIG. 4, mount the stop 22 on a spring 25, the reaction of which on the pawl 18 must then be greater than that of the return spring 20. In this embodiment, a notch 26 is also formed in the lug 17 where there is a notch 26. engage the beak of the pawl 18 and from which it can escape only after a preliminary rotation of the axis 7, caused by the rise of the shoe 14 on the ramp 16.
Under these conditions, when at the end of the return stroke the heel 21 of the pawl 18 comes into contact with the stop 22, it pushes it back by compressing the spring 25 until, the shoe 14 reaching the ramp 16, the axis 7 rotates, the lug 17 is retracted by releasing from its notch the pawl 18 which escapes while the stop 22 returns forward under the pressure of the spring
25 who relaxes.
In the next active stroke, the shoe 14 descends the ramp 16, letting the tool gradually approach the glass sheet. The pawl 18 cannot engage in the notch of the lug 17 because at the moment when the shoe 14 will return to the place
<EMI ID = 4.1>
the lug by an amount corresponding to the relaxation undergone by the spring 25 at the time of the previous triggering, which trigger can be chosen as wide as one wishes by adjusting the relative position of the stop 22 and of the ramp 16 .
The tool will therefore complete its active stroke by scratching the sheet and will be raised at the end of its stroke as described previously. The device thus operates under the most favorable conditions, without any shock being communicated to the tool holder.
Until now, only one tool has been discussed, but it is obvious that the operation will be the same in the case where axis 3 carries two or any number of tools intended to draw simultaneously on the sheet a series of parallel lines, these tools being able to be raised together by a member such as-6, or individually by as many members 6 as there are tools.
Construction changes can be made
the mechanism described without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, in the apparatus shown, the axis 3 serving as a pivot for the tool holder lever is distinct from the axis 7 which carries the lifting rod.
6. The tool holder could obviously be articulated on the axis 7,
the pivot 3 being removed, without affecting the operation of the device.
We will also understand that it is irrelevant that the support
4 is movable par_rapport to the glass sheet and to the frame carrying the latter as well as the ramps 15, 16 and 23 as has been assumed until now, or whether this frame is movable and the support
4 fixed.
