<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 est une vue en plan d'une embarcation pourvue de la quille selon l'invention;
Fig. 2 en est une coupe longitudinale partielle selon x-y de la Fig. 1;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Folding boat with an inflatable keel.
The present invention relates to folding boats, for example of the pneumatic type, and its object is to improve these boats according to which on the bottom of the fairing is provided a hollow keel, made of a flexible and impermeable material capable of be filled with a fluid, air or water, and having the appropriate section and profile to give good lateral stability to the floating boat.
In the case of inflatable boats having considerable considerable dimensions, the aforesaid keel can be inflated independently of the other parts of the hull, in order to prevent that in the event of damage to the keel, the boat does not come to deflate completely. Filling can be done with compressed air; however, it will be preferable to inflate the keel with water to obtain sufficient ballast from the assembly.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
In the case of boats having small dimensions, the keel can preferably be inflated with air simultaneously with the inflation of the boat; but in this case the keel will be put in communication with the tubulars of the boat by means of a pipe provided with check valves to prevent deflation of the boat in the event of damage to the keel.
The present invention therefore relates to a hollow body, the wall of which is flexible and impermeable, for example of rubberized fabric, which is applicable to the bottom of boats, foldable along its median line and having a shape such that after filling. - wise of a liquid or a gas, it will constitute an appropriate keel.
In large boats, inflation can be done using a bellows actuated by hand and fixed to the boat, as shown in the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a boat provided with the keel according to the invention;
Fig. 2 is a partial longitudinal section along x-y of FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 is the cross section along z-w of FIG. 1.
In the embodiment shown by way of example, the boat provided with an inflatable edge 1 and a base 2 of the usual type, also comprises a hollow keel 3 arranged along the axis of the boat and formed of a resistant, flexible and waterproof material, for example a rubberized fabric, which is inflatable with water or air by the action of the bellows 4 applied inside on the bottom 2 of the boat and which communicates directly with the keel 3, Laterally, towards one of the ends of the keel, there is a passage 5 provided with a single-acting valve, while at the end opposite the keel comes out a flexible pipe 6, for example of rubber, fixed to the wall of the edge of the boat, and suitable for allowing the discharge first of all of the air and after of the water,
so as to allow
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the crew to ensure that the keel is filled with water. The pipe 6 can be closed with a screw cap attached to the body of the boat in any way.
The filling of the keel 3 can be carried out as follows: after having relaxed the boat in plane and having inflated the tubular edge 1 in the usual way, it is made to float on the water; to inflate the keel, the person occupying the boat manually controls the bellows 4, which will first produce the discharge through the pipe 6 of the air occupying the keel during the compression; during suction the water will be called through passage 5.
After a certain number of strokes the water will come out through pipe 6; at this moment we plug the pipe 6 to prevent the outflow of the water, and the keel remains formed.To empty the keel after the boat has been put dry, it suffices to unblock the pipe 6 and activate the bellows 4, so as to expel water through pipe 6 and to admit air through passage 5.
Naturally, if you want to inflate the keel with air, the inflation will be done out of the water while keeping the pipe 6 blocked; in this case the bellows 4- may be fitted with an automatic pressure relief valve suitably calibrated,
The keel may also be inflated by air with the boat floating, but in this case the valve must be blocked so as to prevent the entry of water, and the bellows must include a single-acting valve. allowing the entry of air.
The invention can be carried out with all the modifications required by the construction and known to technicians, without departing from the scope of the invention; for example and particularly the keel and the tubular parts of the boat can communicate with each other to be simultaneously inflated by the air.
