On obtient encore l'a-

Device for cutting endless ribbons of artificial fibers. skies.
In machines for cutting fibers into strands it is necessary for the production of a correct cut and workmanship

ïrréprochabla4 meet the following conditions:
1) pull cut,, 2) long cutting capacity of the knives, especially in acid cut.
3) automatic ironing of knives while working
EMI1.2
de lOE., ma9hine ,,
4) possibility of changing the length of the strands during operation, without production waste; 5) minimal consumption of motive power.
In the devices known until now, these conditions are not met. Known cutting machines operate with disks, rotating vertically on which are arranged 2, 3, 4 or 6 knives depending on the length of strands desired, or even with horizontally rotating cylinders on which are arranged a or several knives circulating against a fixed or flexible conjugate knife. In the two fundamental embodiments, there is always a cut by chopping or shearing but not at all a cut with traction which alone can ensure a suitable cutting with a long cutting resistance of the knives and a minimum consumption of force.
There are also no known devices in which during operation of the machine there is an automatic mealing of the knives. Likewise, until now, there are no cutting devices allowing a variation in the length of the strands during operation. In the known devices, it is necessary, for the change of the length of the strands, to stop the machine. . The number of knives is then reduced to the extent that a multiple of the length of the hrins previously set is desired, or else if other lengths of strands must be cut, speed change wheels are fitted.
In the devices according to the present invention the drawbacks indicated are eliminated. We still get a-
