<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FINISHING A SHIRT SURFACE.
The invention relates to a method for finishing bar-shaped objects and liner surfaces of cylindrical, elliptical or other curved liner objects.
In industry, a lot of steel tubes are produced, which must have a smooth surface, such as for example tubes for tubular furniture, bicycles etc., and the surface must be smooth for chrome plating or painting. Until now, emery cloth or the grinding wheel has generally been used for smoothing the tubes. Although the invention relates more particularly to the finishing of metal tubes, it is also suitable for smoothing wooden sticks, such as broom handles or bars of artificial material.
The method according to the invention is characterized more particularly by the fact that the object is introduced between the side walls of at least two discs with an abrasive surface, while giving the object an axial movement and a rotary movement. A device for carrying out the method according to the invention is executed so that at least two actuated discs with abrasive side surfaces, and which are mounted so that the space between the two discs is adjustable and that are arranged, in front of the two discs, two impeded rollers, which are placed, one with respect to the other, so that, by the rotation of the rollers, the object is introduced between the discs by an axial movement and a rotary movement.
A practical embodiment, according to the invention, is obtained by the fact that the discs can move axially and that they are controlled by springs such that they can be moved aside against the action of said springs and that the drive rollers of the object form between them approximately a right angle and that each roll forms an angle of about 45 with the object ,, Since, depending on the nature of the work to be done, the object must rotate more or less quickly, the device according to the invention is executed so that the angular spacing between the rollers themselves and the angle between the rollers and the object are adjustable in order to be able to

adjusting the relationship between the axial movement and the rotational movement of the object.
The advancement of the object is ensured by the fact that the rollers are pushed towards each other, under the action of one or more springs. It is obvious that the discs, instead of having abrasive surfaces, can be polishing discs with the surfaces provided with felt or leather.
The invention will be described more particularly in an exemplary embodiment, illustrated by the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of a machine and a partial section of the abrasive discs with the tube placed between these discs.
Figure 2 is a side view of the discs and part of a tube.
Figure 3 is a bottom view of the drive rolls and the abrasive discs.
By means of the V-shaped cables 1 and the disk 2, the rotation is transmitted to an axis housed in the bearings 3. The disk is fixed by means of keys ± to the axis 4. The disk is provided with tenons 10. On the disc are mounted two discs 7. The inner face of these two discs is provided with an abrasive surface, for example emery cloth or a layer of carburundum for smoothing work. This layer 1 can also be felt or another material, for polishing work. It is obvious that the discs 2 are made in the form of grinding wheels, for example in emery. By means of the springs 9, the discs are pushed towards each other, and a cover plate surrounds said springs. By means of the ring 12, the plate can be removed and the discs replaced.
The tube 13 is guided between the discs by means of the rollers 14 and 15, while receiving an axial movement and a rotational movement.
One or both rollers are driven and by their placement, in accordance with Figure 3, the tube 13 is transmitted axial and rotary movement. By modifying the angle between the rollers it is possible to adjust the rotational movement and the axial movement, One of the rollers 14 or 15 or both rollers are actuated by a spring device not shown in the drawings, so that the fitting of the tube between the two rollers is ensured,
The long tubes or other bars are thus guided automatically between the discs, while the short tubes or small sleeves are fixed beforehand on a tube or core to pass one after the other between the discs 7.
For the finishing of square-section tubes, the rollers 14 and 15 are placed parallel to each other and perpendicular to the direction of advance so that 1: object does not make the rotational movement ,, CLAIMS.
1. - Process for finishing objects in the form of bars, characterized by the fact that the objects are led between side faces, with an abrasive surface.
2. - Process for finishing the surface of the jacket of cylindrical, elliptical or other objects with a curved jacket, characterized in that the object is driven between the side faces of at least two discs with an abrasive surface, during that this object is given an axial movement and a rotary movement.
