<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

automotive thruster for the transport of tree trunks and similar loads ... for the skidding of drills, the transport of logs in construction sites, sawmills, stations and warehouses we still frequently use the dragging on the ground by means of horses or automotive trenches.
These systems are poor from the point of view of efficiency and maneuverability, in particular, for ground grip requirements, the tractors must be of high power and weight, disproportionate to the effort to be provided, besides their axes of wheels are always too close to the ground to allow them to step over logs, stumps, rocks and other obstacles in all terrain.
The object of the present invention is a sutemebile propellant, particularly suitable for such transport and handling.

It is of light construction, 'conOJlllqu8, has a small power motor and this of a very high maneuverability and output. as for the adhesion to the ground, it is aeauré by making the train of driving wheels carry, in addition to the own weight of the device, a large fraction of the: load to be moved ,,
The apparatus according to the invention consists of a metal housing frame carried at the front by two drive wheels and at the rear by a pair of load wheels. The frame, the driving and carrying wheels are formed so as to leave passage under them, follow the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, for one or more trunks of logs.
At a point close to their center of gravity, these are immediately suspended from the frame in line with the driving wheels and then raised at some distance from the ground, so that they do not take

In order to capture the particularities, by referring to the accompanying drawing, we will describe, by way of non-limiting example of the invention, some preferred embodiments of the object thereof *

ash under the action of the motor, which transmits no movement to it by 1. interlocking. of a known reversing device. and square returns by wheel and worm.
The beam 13 comprises either hooks to grip the load, or chains,
At each of the legs of the gantry are the spindles 15-15 of the driving wheels 4-4, with pneumatic or large rims, preferably established with a large diameter and provided at their periphery with ridges or ribs for attachment to the ground. ; in certain cases according to the invention, the driving wheels will be replaced by track systems of well-known type.
At its rear part, the vehicle is carried by a set of wheels 17 completed by rollers of frustoconical section 18-18, oscillating about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the advance.
This set of wheels can also pivot around a vertical axis 19, under the action of a gear and via endless, actuated by the driver from the steering wheel, -
Two 20-20 pads are attached to the frame. so as to end near the rollers 18-1.8 and serve, for crossing obstacles, to lift the train of carrier rollers from the ground and to allow the rear set of wheels to sit astride the shaft (s) being transported,
The installation and operation of the thruster according to the invention are very simple. The vehicle is placed above the trees to be transported so that they are located directly above its longitudinal axis, at a place such that the center of gravity of the trees is somewhat behind the axis of the wheels motor.
The trees are then gripped by the lifting clamps or by means of chains suspended from the gantry and, by the action of the motor, lifted by these up to a *. certain dis- tanas of the Il, in such a way that they are still lightly resting on it by their posterior extremity - the most improtani fraction

of their load being distributed on the two driving wheels * of which it ensures the perfect adhesion to the ground, as for the rear wheelset, to the intervention of. pebbles 18-18 and patina 20.40 It is placed astride the tree trunk or trunks on which it rests and is not more than 1 & aort in contact with the ground.
In certain cases, especially when it comes to handling loads, for example logs which are in inaccessible places, the thruster can work in a different way; o @ can in such cases, by means of the device, grasp and lift one end of the load then drag it while operating the device backwards, the rear wheels being right. the driver, seated in his seat, can, at will, by controlling the engine and appropriate transmission components placed within his reach, adjust the forward, backward, orientation and stopping of the vehicle and of its load.
Figures 3 and 4 show, seen from the front and in profile, another embodiment of the object of the invention, of lightweight construction, without a driver's seat and of which all the control members are arranged sideways to the vehicle, so as to allow easy access to it by the driver moving next to it. In this construction, the rear wheelset is completely eliminated and the Ahanais is reduced to a simple gantry. It supporting the engine 22, the transmission members 23 carried by the driving roads 24-24 and which ends at the rear with a tail 25 intended to allow manual movements thereof.
A side arm 26, integral with the gantry, carries the various control members which are thus placed within reach of the driver,
The lifting of the tree to be moved and its operation is very easy. The shaft support members may be chains 16 (pin 3) or hooks (fig. 4). The gantry is placed astride the tree to be transported in such a way that its @

claw or lifting chains grab it in front of the driving wheels and in such a way that its center of gravity is towards the rear.
Engage the engine and turn the drive wheels; the engine torque causes a reaction torque which tends to lift the bearing of the shaft and therefore allows the latter to be hauled forward, in the direction of the arrow in FIG. 4.
Finally fig.5 shows the adaptation to the propellant according to the invention, accessories allowing the skidding of logs located in particularly inaccessible places, for example. thickets or ravines.
For this the apparatus of normal construction is provided with a capstan, in this case a simple metal cylinder 27 fixed outwardly on the fuxée of one of the driving wheels.
For the use of this capstan, the front of the device, consisting of the driving wheels 4-4, is lifted from the ground by means of two crutches momentarily secured to the beam II * that of the driving wheels which carries the capstan 27 is placed in movement by engaging the motor, while the other driving wheel is blocked by the brake. A cable 28 coming from a reel fixed to the device is wound around the capstan and the tree trunk 29 can thus be halted whatever the inaccessible position it occupies.
In order to neutralize the deformations which could result from the force of tractio: of the cabeste @ 27, a special anchoring of the outer part of the spindle 30, of the drive wheel and of the frame, by the means] can be provided] a cable 31 attached at a fixed point 32.
It is understood that the invention is not limited only to the embodiments thus described, but that it also encompasses all other equivalent or derivative embodiments which differ only in their shapes and constructive details, as well as is claimed below *
