<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Figs.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Improvements to electrically heated stools.
The invention relates to an electrically heated stool.
Its aim, above all, is to make these devices such that they respond better than hitherto to the requirements of practice and that they can be used in addition and advantageously as a heating plate, as a bed warmer and for other similar uses.
It mainly consists in constituting the casing of stools of the kind in question, in which a housing is provided for one or more electric heating elements, in a ceramic material and, preferably in earthenware for stoves.
One can then, advantageously, arrange in the plate, forming the cover of the stool and whose fa, this upper is flat, air outlet orifices while in the frame ,, formed by the side walls of the stool, is engaged by the ba, s a plate of a suitable insulating material or the like, forming the bottom of the plate

bouret and carried the electric heating element (s) while having air inlet openings,
The electrically heated stool established according to the invention can be produced in a simple and economical manner.
An important advantage of such a stool resides in the fact that it is liable to accumulate a considerable quantity of heat and that it allows the uniform radiation of heat as for a stove. ceramic or earthenware for stoves, the new stool is clean and can be cleaned easily. It is therefore particularly suitable for use as a hotplate or as a bed warmer. By using it as a bed heater it has the advantage that it retains its heat for a long time because of its storage capacity and that it can therefore be disconnected from the supply circuit after being heated. The dangers posed by bed heaters constantly connected to the circuit thus disappear.
The object of the invention therefore constitutes a household article with multiple uses and which, being used as a stool as the main mode of application, has given excellent results.
According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, a major defect of electrically heated stools known hitherto is eliminated. As stools of this kind have a relatively low height and are moreover located near the floor, for example directly on rugs of a greater or lesser value, the danger easily exists of too intense heating of its support or of the floor. floor as a result of the heat radiation downwards. Without there being a direct danger of fire, a certain heating of said support can be harmful for the wooden floor, the painted floor or the like. The same is the case, for example, when the stool is used as a heating plate when it is used. this is placed on the table top.
To avoid this drawback, according to the invention, the heating elements of the stool are mounted on a plate forming
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
screen, the width of which is less than that of the base plate and which, being spaced from the latter, is fixed above the middle zone of said base plate where the inlet openings d 'air. This arrangement has a particularly advantageous effect. The screen is suitably cooled by the cool air entering from below into the interior of the stool, thereby preventing the radiation of heat from the heating element (s) downwards. This prevents heat from being transmitted downwards so that the stool can be safely installed anywhere.
In addition, the intake air is already reheated by hitting the shielding plate so that the heat, which otherwise would be radiated downwards uselessly, is well exploited for the purpose of effective heating,
Other features of the invention relate to the method of mounting the heating element (s) and the mounting of the bottom and the cover, the latter may be formed in one piece with the side walls, or it may be formed using a separate plate which is placed on the frame formed by the side walls, In this case, sealing or filling plates made of felt or of an elastic material are advantageously interposed between the cover and the support edges of the frame.
The bottom can be fixed in any suitable way. According to a simple method of fixing, one uses retaining rods anchored in the cover and on which the bottom is held by screwing. The heating element (s) are advantageously mounted elastically or by means of springs on the plate forming a screen and advantageously by means of elastic metal bands which can at the same time be used to supply the current.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig, 1 shows in perspective, a ceramic stool established according to the invention.

Figs. 2 and 3 show, on a larger scale and respectively in longitudinal section and in transverse section according to A B FIG. 2, this same stool.
As already stated above, it is possible to constitute the cover of the stool and the frame thereof in one piece. For the embodiment shown by way of example, the stool is constituted, essentially in three par.rties, in particular a box 1 in the shape of cairo and formed by side walls, which are made of a ceramic material or earthenware for stoves. a relatively large thickness, a plate 2 forming a cover, for example formed by an earthenware tile of suitable thickness, and finally by a lower part which carries the heating device and which will be, more explicitly described below,
The frame 1 formed by the side walls is open towards the bottom and the top and advantageously has, at its lower part,
a rim 3 which serves as a support for the assembly housed in the lower part of the stool. The frame 1 may also have, at its upper part, a rim or a recessed groove which acts as a support for the plate 2, forming the cover. The cover 2 is advantageously placed on the frame 1 with the interposition of sealing strips or plates 21. These sealing strips or these plates may be of any suitable material and advantageously of a flexible or elastic material which is housed by example in notches made in frame 1 or in cover 2.
In the cover 2 an appropriate number of air outlet openings 4 are provided through which the air heated inside the tab can escape to the outside. The air orifices 4 can be provided in any number and be distributed as desired in the cover 2. The upper face of the latter is flat and smooth. It can, if necessary, be decorated with ornaments.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
embellishments or patterns. The frame 1 has legs 5 between which air can penetrate from the sides to the lower wall of the stool.
The lower part of the stool is formed, for the embodiment shown, by a plate 6 forming the bottom, the median longitudinal zone of which has air inlet openings 7.
At a certain distance above this bottom 6 is mounted a plate 8 forming a screen. For this purpose it is possible, for example, to have recourse to a spacer 9, the thickness of which corresponds to the desired spacing between the plates 6 and 8. The elements 6, 8 and 9 can be interconnected. using a screw or bolt 10.
The screen 8 has a smaller width than the bottom 6 and extends above the air inlet openings' 7. The air which enters from the bottom through the openings 7 therefore first strikes the. screen 8 and then flows from one side to the other, in the direction of the arrows shown in Fig. 3, by the gap 11 formed as a result of the gap existing between the plates 6 and 8, this air then entering the interior space 12 of the stool, In this way the screen 8 is constantly cooled by the cold air allowed in the stool. on the screen 8, advantageously made of an insulating material, an electric heating element 13 is fixed, for example a heating rod carrying an electric resistance wound in a helix.
The heating element 13 is supported by elastic metal bands 14 fixed to the screen 8. In this way, the heating element 13 is avoided as much as possible from being subjected to shocks,
The elastic bands 14 supporting the heating element 13 at the same time serve advantageously for supplying the current. The current feed wires 15 are connected to the strips 14, these wires passing for example through one of the air inlet openings 7 of the bottom 6 and being extended to the outside by a connection cord 16 provided with pa, r example of a socket 17.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
The bottom 6 can, as shown in the drawing, advantageously be supported by retaining rods 18 which are anchored in the cover 2. For the embodiment shown by way of example, two retaining rods are provided. 18 established respectively near the short sides of the frame 1 and on one side and the other of the latter. The heads 19 of the rods 18 can be engaged in its appropriately shaped notches which are provided in the cover 1, while their lower end is threaded so that nuts 20 can be screwed onto it after fitting. in back place 6.
Instead of using a single heating element, it is possible, if necessary, to use two or more of these elements which are housed in the stool. Excessively intense heating of the stool is not necessary. however not generally necessary.
It suffices for said stool to be heated up to approximately 30 to 40 ° C., in order to obtain a pleasant heating effect.
As goes without saying and as it follows moreover already from the above, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments indicated above; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants.
