<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

* * *

FINDING AND RECORDING SYSTEM for
PIGEON COMPETITION.
The drawbacks inherent in common recording devices lie mainly in: (a) the sometimes difficult control of the registration marks; b) compulsory use of boxes or capsules; c) the impossibility of recognizing the order in which the rings were observed.
The object of the present application is a new system for ascertaining and recording pigeon competitions, designed in such a way as to eliminate the above defects while offering the advantage of rapid and safe control.

EMI2.1
This system includes 2 essential parts: A - A recording device.
B - A recording device.
A - The Observation Device.
The recording device consists of a drum (fig. 2: A) with a series of compartments at the top. Except for the first of them, the background is provided with a number (serial), metallic or other, in relief.
In each of these numbered compartments, swings a small ring-holder lever which, folded down (fig.5), serves as an ink pad intended to moisten the number that can be seen at the bottom of the compartment.
B - The Registration Device.
The recording device consists of: a) A strip of recording paper 8 groups of PRINTED time dials (day-hour-minute-second) wound on a spool (fig.l) b) Two drive wheels (fig. L: d), whose role is to advance the recording paper tape. c) A clock system (fig.l: B), provided, in the form of indicator hands, rods, each bristling with points which, by perforation, indicate on the tape of recording paper with frames: the day, the hour, minute and second, for each finding. d) A mobile part (fig.l: C) which, actuated by a camshaft and guided in its vertical movement by 4 rods provided with coil springs, perforates the tape of recording paper.

# to% z / Ôjô / Àsx ÀÉ to - # = 'SYSTEM OPERATION.
The recording device and the moving part of the recording device, regularly driven with stopping time - by a driving mechanism (operated by a crank) operate as follows:
The observation drum (fig. 2) has at its upper part a series of compartments, the first of which are not provided with a ring-holder lever, and at its lower part a series of teeth.
Attached to the control shaft, a 4-tooth segment (fig. L: a) has the role of turning the drum on each turn of the crank; this, just the time necessary to bring each time a new ring-holder lever into the viewing window in the case of the recording device. ¯
While waiting for the re-entry of the 1st pigeon - in other words: while waiting for the 1st observation to be made - the pigeon fancier therefore turns the constator's crank until the 1st ring holder lever comes into view of the box .
Then, the ring holder lever is straightened which - after having inked the number, as long as it remained folded (fig.5) - now takes the standby position (fig.l: b 'and fig. 6 ).
The ring of the retracted 1st pigeon slides onto the ring holder (fig. 7) which is immediately folded back (fig. 8) so as to leave the serial number 1 imprinted on this 1st ring to be noted (fig. .9).
(Subsequently, a similar procedure is followed for the observation of the ring of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... returned pigeons).
At the moment when the ring-holder lever N 1 is in the standby position, the tape of recording paper is ready to advance to present, for recording, a group of dials above a platform. acting as the dial of the watch system. On this platform turn, by way of indicator needles, several rods, each of them spiked with points placed in a straight line.

EMI4.1
, Each time the amateur makes the observation of a ba, the various operations are carried out as follows:
During the @st phase of the rotation movement of the control shaft (= of the crank), after folding down the ring-holder lever, the small segmert (fig.l: a), by rotating the recording drum, at by means of its 4 teeth, makes the lever carrying the ring to be noted disappear and, by the same fact, brings the next 1 sink into the sight of the box.
With the rotation of the drive shaft a. also begins the rotation of the large segment (fig.l: c), at the same time as that of]. 'shaft% cam (fig.l: e').
So with the. 1st phase, started at the same time, under
EMI4.2
the action ¯ of g.x.P.9: 2.eE.mn1, the 2nd ha s e of the rotational movement which is extended up to 3/4 of the turn of the crank.
During the rotation of the large segment (fig.l: c), this one communicated the movement to the toothed wheels which have the mission of driving the tape of recording paper.
And since the arc of the large segment has a length of 130 mm., The tape of recording paper has been unwound 130 mm. des '11.] (0 this segment has ceased to actuate the driving toothed wheels. At this moment, the camshaft (fig.l: e ') which, by @ transmission, follows the movement of the control shaft, made 3/4 turn.
Here begins the 3rd phase of the rotational movement, under
EMI4.3
l'cli.2.n¯c1 1- caify. It is during the last 1/4 of a turn that the action of the carne is felt: this causes the moving part C of the recording device to descend, with the tape of recording paper (while compressing the springs to sausage); 1; the extreme limit of its downward stroke,] the tape of recording paper is perforated by the tips of the hands of the clock system which engage in the ad hoc strip of felt.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As soon as the perforation is carried out, the cam has passed its vertical position downwards and consequently ceases its action on the movable part of the recording device which, under the action of the coil springs which unwind, rises to resume its initial position. .
The group of dials which, through the perforation, indicate the exact time of the finding which has just been made, remains above the upper plane of the watch system while waiting for the same series of operations to be repeated for the recording of the next ring.
* * *
The realization of this invention is not limited to the above description: the shape, the number, the dimensions, etc ... of each part, and of the assembly, being able to be modified according to the needs of the construction.
* * *
It follows from the above discussion that: the assembly described allows faster and more reliable control than current systems.
It also achieves several advantages, the most important of which are: a) Elimination of errors and @ ¯ ¯ ¯ of fraud, during the control.
(since the rings observed are provided with a serial number). b) Elimination of boxes and capsules, hence: no more wasted time; no more fines; less labor; less cost.
