<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
( Fig. 4 et 5 ) .

PATENT OF INVENTION in the name of the Company known as:
SARC, Cooperative Company Mechanical Grids.
The present invention relates to mechanical grates for boilers, ovens and the like, that is to say, to grids in the form of an endless chain whose advancement movement is mechanically controlled,
According to the present invention, provision is made to constitute the grid using a series of identical bars the cross section of which is triangular, stacked on hexagonal bars resting at the ends in links provided with a notch e @ in the form of a half hexagon, closed by a pin, c ale or similar device, the links being interconnected by spacer rods forming pivots,
Fixed grids made up of bars of triangular section are already known, and the present patent relates essentially to the new application of such bars to mechanical grids, as well as to the combination of these bars and o hainons with a view to make such mechanical grids.

Other details and particularities will emerge during the description of the attached essins which represent, by way of explanation and not by way of limitation, one embodiment of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Figure I is a longitudinal vertical section with a partial break through a boiler with an interior fireplace (taken as an example because constituting the most difficult case due to the difficulty of access) provided with a mechanical grid in accordance with the invention
Figure 2 is a section along the line II - II of Figure I.
Figures 3 to 7 show in perspective and on a large scale various parts of the grid
The corresponding elements are represented in the various figures by the same reference numerals,
The boiler shown in Figures I and 2 comprises the tank 2 and an internal hearth 2a in which is mounted the mechanical grid 3 This grid in the form of a chain s end is controlled in a known manner, for example by an electric motor, and by the intermediary of a reduction box and speed changes not shown, so as to be able to be moved slowly in the direction of the arrow (figure I).
The fuel is brought through hopper 4.
In the chain are provided three series of shutters 5, 6 and 7 each controlled independently of the others by a lever acting on the rod 5a.
The fuel is distributed over the grate in a layer of decreasing thickness from front to back and the provision of three or more sets of independent flaps makes it possible to regulate the passage of the blown air, independently, to the 'front, above flaps 5, in the center, above flaps 6 and at the rear above flaps 7.
In this way, by a suitable adjustment of each series of shutters ensures the economic operation optimup. The air is blown through the grille from bottom to top, from the pressurized ashtray 8 which, thanks to the small size of the grille, is easily accessible.
The grid also includes a scouring plate 23 provided with ventilation openings and allowing complete combustion of the ashes. The operation of this grid by a lever 24 located at the front of the fireplace allows the precipitation of ashes in the ashtray.
The grid can expand freely towards the rear thanks to 2 sets of rollers 25 judiciously placed on the rear support. The tension of the grid is obtained either by means of hand tensioners located at the front, or by means of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
spring tensioners located at the rear.
The mechanical grid consists of a series of bars 10, of triangular section. These bars are preferably formed in a known manner, by triangular flanges 10a provided with spacer pins and threaded on a hexagonal shaft 11 (Figures 2 and 7)
Each bar is carried at its two ends, via the two ends (FIG. 7) of the shaft 11; by a link such as 12 and which will be described in more detail below, each link being connected by a spacer rod 13 to the two adjacent links.
The grid has 14 rollers on each side.
The chalnons 12 (FIG. 3) have in the central part "a notch 15 in the form of a half hexagon, in which the ends of the hexagonal shaft 11 are housed, while being angularly immobilized.
Above this notch are provided two shoulders 16, intended to receive a removable pin 17 to hold the shaft 11 in the notch.
This pin can be easily removed, which allows the bars to be removed, so that when a bar is worn on one of its three faces, it can be turned by 1200 and put it back in the notch 15, so that the 'we triple the lifetime' of the grid. As shown in FIG. 3, the link 12 is provided with two ears 18 pierced with orifice 19 to receive a pivot 13 connecting two adjacent links,
In the embodiment shown in Figure 3, the link comprises ears 18, the thickness of which is half that of the link itself so that each link such as 12 is interposed between two identical links but turned over as visible in Figure 5,
Instead of providing links such as the one shown in figure 3,
the links may be provided, at one end, with a fork 20 and at the other end, with an ear 21, intended to fit into the fork 20 of the following chain, as shown in FIG. 4.
Figure 5 is a vertical transverse section in a link such as that of la'figure 4, showing the existence of a wall 21. (Figs. 4 and 5).
However, this wall may be perforated, as shown in Figure 6 and re-. from a simple bar 22, so as to allow easy adjustment of the on- @
