<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"DEVICE FOR BLOCKING THE CYLINDER HEADS OF FIREARMS FOR-
VIEWS OF CORNER CLOSURES "
The subject of the present patent is a device for closing off the oulasses of the firearms provided with wedge closures, eliminating the use or use of the casings usually lining the projectiles. For this purpose, in the usual closing wedge is arranged a movable part of special shape provided, in its front part intended to penetrate into the core of the barrel during the last phase of closing the breech by the wedge, with devices suitable sealing.
Said movable part and its anterior part bearing the joints which is attached to it, is maneuvered in the usual corner by any suitable means, either to withdraw from the core of the barrel its anterior part, when the weapon is opened by the release of the care, or to introduce it when closing the weapon, by engaging the closing wedge. /
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The means for engaging in the core of the barrel or removing the part envisaged therefrom can vary within wide limits and for this purpose one can use either the crank or the usual wedge operating handle. or one or more cranks or special handles.
These cranks or handles actuate the totally or partially irreversible mechanisms which introduce into the core of the barrel the movable assembly which carries the seals which will be discussed below, ..
The object of the invention relates not only to the mobility of the part carried by the wedge and movable in the latter, but also to the sealing devices with which this part is provided at its front end penetrating into the wedge. barrel core to prevent any passage of gas, these devices also being insensitive to heat.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the accompanying drawings for explanatory and non-limiting purposes represent:
Fig.I is a schematic view of the wedge in the closing phase, the seal-bearing part introduced into the core of the gun barrel.
FIG. 2 is a schematic view of the wedge in the closing phase, before the introduction of the seal-holder part into the core of the gun barrel.
Referring to figures ai above 1 represents the usual caim, 2 the movable part to which is fixed the seal-holder part -3 by its posterior extension 5 on which is screwed the locking nut 6 housed in the chamber or housing 9 of the rear part 7 of the moving part 2. This chamber 9 contains the firing device 13 and the firing mechanism, not shown.
At the periphery of the front part of the seal holder! Circular grooves or grooves 10, for example three in number, are cut out in the accompanying schematic drawings of suitable cross-section called swirl joints.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Behind this first sealing device is a second one, consisting of an annular chamber 14 formed by parts 2 and 3 and containing a seal 11 of some cross section and construction.
In the example shown the movement of parts 2-3 is obtained by the rotation by means of a rack 16. of a nut 15 engaged on an irreversible screw thread 12 lining the outer cylindrical part of the rear part 1 of the moving part 2 guided at 17 on the corresponding part of the perforation .8 of the corner 1.
The devices for advancing and retreating the movable part 2 in the corner 1 may vary within wide limits and may or may not be slaved to the operation of the usual crank for controlling the corner 1.
We put the fire through the intermediary of a spark plug or some sort of firing device. After the blow started, all the mobile equipment made up of pieces 2-3-11 is withdrawn from the core and completely returned to the corner. by the operation of the control device (s) which may be constituted as described or otherwise or even be constituted by the single crank or wedge operating handle; the wedge opens under the action of the latter: the cannon is loaded; the serving shooter replaces the fired artifice with a new artifioe.
The wedge is closed by the normal operation of its hand or maneuver handle. The mobile equipment described above is introduced into the core of the barrel by the operation of its control device which may be the crank or wedge handle.
It should be noted that the drawings are provided for explanatory purposes only and that the object of the invention may include a large number of own means, on the one hand, to cause the movement of the moving part with its part. on the other hand to form the seal between the core of the barrel
