<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

High voltage current producing device for the lighting of luminescent tubes and other applications requiring these currents,
The present invention relates to an apparatus for producing high voltage currents for lighting luminescent tubes and other applications requiring these currents.
The invention has among others on the known devices, the following advantages: the primary current, being intermittent, it follows a reduced expenditure of the electrical energy, of the order for example of ten watts for fifteen meters of lighted tube.
The same intermittence prevents heating of the wires and more particularly those of the transformer.
The device working on continuous avoids the aohat of the commutator and of several transformers. Independence
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of each part of the device allows the replacement at low cost of each of them and to carry out repairs on the spot.
It is easy to modify the power at the secondary by varying the capacitance of the capacitor and the turns of the primary as well as its core. The ability to use any current makes this device an easy type of commercial outlet.
With the ability to place several secondary coils on the same core of a common primary, it is easy, by constructing secondaries of a single type, to increase the lighting length without modifying the other parts. Finally, the weight of the device and its bulk are reduced to a large extent compared to current installations. The sparks at the collector are insignificant, which ensures the long life of the latter.
The accompanying drawings show by way of example one embodiment of the invention.
Rod 1 is a schematic view of the device,
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 of the embodiments of the invention.
In fig. l, the circuit is composed of the primary of a transformer 1 and a capacitor 2 placed in series. The two ends 3 and 4 of this circuit being fixed to two terminals of an inverter 5 supplied with a current, either direct or alternating, which can be cut by means of the interruptour 6. The secondary of the transformer is connected to the user circuit, i.e. tube 7.
Suppose the supply current is continuous. The phenomena that will happen are the following; when the circuit is closed by K, the current flows through the primary of the transformer and charges 2 (4 out of 8 - out of 9) in a fraction of a second. This rapid variation in flux induces a high electromotive force in the secondary of the transformer. The capacitor has a voltage V equal to that of the line and a quantity Q equal to the product C.V.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Push the inverter 10 to position 11, the positive face 8 of 2 is in contact with the minus of the line and the negative face 9 with the plus of the line. This results in a very weak short-circuit spark (because Q is small) coming from the discharge of 2 which is recharged moreover at the same time, but in the other direction, thus producing a double variation of flux, of which has the effect of energetically inducing the secondary. By pushing the inverter to the next position, the same phenomenon is obtained and so on. By rotating the inverter by means of a motor, an extremely rapid sequence of phenomena will be obtained, each phenomenon comprising a charge and a discharge of the capacitor.
Suppose the alternating current. Take for example 20 periods and run the inverter at 20 revolutions-seconds. Since there are four phenomena per revolution, this makes 90 phenomena per second wave. During half a period of the alternation, two phenomena will occur. It is essential to note that during this half-period, the alternative can be considered as a direct current with variable intensity and that the principle of the operation is not modified. It is obvious that if the inverter produced only one phenomenon every two, three or n periods, the role of the capacitor would no longer be the same, it would only have the effect of shifting the intensity on the electro- force. driving force of the alternative.
In the case of application of the principle to the illumination of luminescent tubes, the only point to be observed here is the value of the frequency of the phenomena to allow, thanks to the persistence of the images on the retina, to give the eye the impression of continuous light. In the apparatus shown by way of example in FIGS. 2, 3 and 4, the frequency is obtained by an inverter 12 comprising a collector with active blades and neutral blades, (fourteen of each for example) actuated by a motor which rotating at 3000 rpm, for example, gives a frequency of 700 approximately.
Motor 13 can operate at 110 volts, for example, or with a resistor 14 for 220 volts.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
For example, two capacitors 15 and 16 connected in parallel are used.
The primary 17 of the transformer is preferably adjustable, for example 80 turns, 100 turns, 150 turns on core 18.
The secondary of the transformer can then be constituted by two coils 19 and 20 with a variable number of turns according to the desired result and on core 21. The apparatus operates on the principle sua-indicated of the capacitor placed in series in the primary circuit. This particular provision gives rise to the important advantages mentioned above.
The inverter as above spec. 16 and which produces the change in polarity of the capacitor can be of any other type, for example, oscillating, rotating, fixed, mobile or other inverter, such as vibrator, shaker, valve, fixed blade or mobile, auto-switch or other part.
It is understood that it is possible, without departing from the scope of the invention, to make any modifications to the details of its implementation - tions deemed useful for its proper execution, just as the elements of the invention can be used in isolation, simultaneously or in combination with any known means.
