<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
4 ) L'arasement se fait régulièrement puisque manoeu- vré aut omat iquement ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Apparatus for determining a volume of grains or granular materials under constant compaction.
The weight of grain or any other granular material contained in a receptacle of determined capacity varies with the material itself and with the settlement to which it is subjected.
It is therefore important, if we want to carry out comparative weighings of gra-ins, to operate under an always constant settlement.
The invention aims to achieve this condition and its object is an apparatus which ensures the filling with grains or granular materials of a container: of determined capacity,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
under a constant settlement, characterized in that the settlement is obtained thanks to a constant height of this material corresponding to a determined level, due to the fact that the material which flows after reaching this level causes, by its mass , the triggering of a mechanism which releases a part carrying out an automatic leveling of the material at the orifice of the measuring container which is thus isolated from the rest of the material.
This mechanism comprises a container mounted on a tilting lever and into which the material empties after it has reached the determined level, the weight of this material determining, at a given moment, the pivoting of the lever which releases the leveling part subjected to the action of a spring.
This apparatus is represented in substance and only by way of example by the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the apparatus in a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a view in elevation and partially in section along a plane perpendicular to that of FIG, 1, of the leveling mechanism.
Fig. 3 is a plan view also showing the trigger mechanism.
Fig. 4 is a schematic overall view, in vertical section, of the apparatus in a second embodiment. FIG. 5 is an exterior front view of the nozzle connecting the measuring container to the reservoir / supply.
Fig. 6 is a horizontal section taken along line AA of FIG. 5.
Fig. 7 is a horizontal section along the line
BB of fig. 5,
With reference to fig. 1 to 3, the device includes a measuring container 1 of known capacity, at the top
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of which there is a part 2 of cylindrical shape connected to the container 1 by bayonet fitting 3, which makes it possible to separate this part 2 from the container 1. The part 2 comprises a slot arranged perpendicularly to its axis and in which slides a Water knife 4. On both sides of this knife are mounted parallel rods 5 forming guides and on which springs 5a are wound.
The part 2 also carries an axis 7 around which an elbow lever 8 can rotate, the branch 9 of which is provided, at its end, with a roller 10 on which rests the stop catch 6 carried by the knife 4. The second branch 11 of the lever 8 carries a small container 12 into which the excess material will flow to cause the release. For this purpose, the part 2 is provided with a weir 13 placed in line with the container 12.
The whole of the lever 8 is balanced in such a way that, when the container 12 is empty, the branch 9 is in a green plane i cal.
The apparatus finally comprises a frame 14 supporting a feed hopper 1-5, the lower orifice of which is closed by an all-or-nothing hatch 16.
The operation of this device is as follows:
After making sure that the parts 1 and 2 are well assembled, we cock the knife 4 by pulling it back until the roller 10 of the lever 8 has fallen against the stopper 6, then oh place l 'together on the base of the frame, in line with the loading hopper 15. This hopper 15 is then filled with grains or granular materials to be measured, then the hatch 16 is operated, which opens completely,
The material flows into the container 1 through the part 2; when this container 1 is full, the material continuing to flow, its level rises in room 2 to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
what happens to the weir 13. At this time, the material passes through it and falls into the container 12 which is loaded.
It is easy to understand that the release of the knife then occurs, because the lever 8, biased by the weight of the material contained in the receptacle 12, oscillates, which has the effect of releasing the roller 10 from the cleat 6. The knife 4 then being released, is driven by the springs mounted on its slides 5 and comes, by licking the upper edge of the container 1, to close the communication orifice of this container and of the part 2. This movement achieves the leveling. and isolate the measuring container 1.
The rest of the material contained in the hopper 15 then finishes flowing.
It is possible to separate the full container 1 from the part 2 and carry out the appropriate weighings on the contents.
In a second embodiment represented by FIGS. 4 to 7, the apparatus comprises a lower container of a determined capacity, for example fifty liters, constituting the measuring container and surmounted by a conical feed hopper b, of greater capacity provided its lower part with a hatch c.
Between these two capacities is disposed a nozzle d which carries the leveling knife e with the release mechanism.
This mechanism consists of the balancing vessel f mounted at the end of the swivel lever ± and balanced, on the other hand, by the counterweight h. This receptacle f is normally located under the horizontal ridge i weir i1 forms at the base of a notch made in the periphery of the nozzle d.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
A brassk integral with the lever & extends downwards and pivots with it, At its lower end, this arm forms a cleat 1 behind which is likely to come to be placed the head m of the column n fixed at the end of 'a lever o articulated at the fixed point p and carrying beyond this fixed point, the leveling knife e, A strong spring q wound on the articulation axis p tends t ouj bear to bring said knife e in its closed or leveling position, across the nozzle d, in the separat ive part r. A finger s fixed under the frame of the leveling knife makes it possible to place the latter in the open position, against the action of the spring, ±, by moving it aside in the direction. indicated by the arrow t.
The lever o then moves in the direction indicated by the arrow u (fig. 3) and the head m of the adjoining column sliding on the inclined nose v of the arm k forces it to pivot to the left, until that said head m comes to stand behind the cleat 1, In fact as soon as my head has passed this cleat the pivoting system formed by the arm k and the lever g returns to its rest position under the action of the weight of the container balance f acting as a counterweight. The trimming knife is then held in its open position and the device is cocked.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The hatch c being closed, the upper feed tank b is filled and the device is armed as it has just been said, the passage in the nozzle 1d thus being completely 1 iber, the hatch c is then opened.
The grain, passing through said nozzle, descends into the measuring container a and gradually fills it, then it rises in the nozzle d to the constant level determined by the horizontal ridge i1 of the weir i then spreads into the equilibrium vessel f. When a determined weight of grain has fallen into this container f, this weight causes the training of the system
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
pivoting gk which releases, by the means described above, the leveling knife e, which, under the action of the spring q, abruptly cuts the column of grain and stops its flow, thus isolating the measuring container from the rest of material has formed in the upper part of the device.
In both of its embodiments, the apparatus which is the subject of the invention has the following peculiarities:
1) It ensures the filling with grains of the material, granular of a container of determined capacity under a constant settlement, caused by the fact that the release of the leveling and separating knife occurs when the level of the material has reached the weir, that is, at a constant level.
2) The power supply is regular since it is caused by an all or nothing hatch.
3) The flow height of the material in the measuring container is constant since it is determined by the frame of the apparatus.
4) The leveling is done regularly since it is operated automatically;
5) This leveling is done on an orifice with a small surface area, resulting in fewer errors.
All these causes completely eliminate errors due to non-automatic devices and which come from:
1) The time interval which elapses between the moment when leveling should be done and when it is done (Duration during which the wheat travels and is placed).
2) Variable vibrations and shocks which cause compaction, material and which are necessarily caused to the device by manual operation of the leveling mechanism
3) More or less pressure applied
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
to the part used for hand leveling, in devices where this part is not guided.
Summary
The subject of the invention is an apparatus for determining a volume of grains or granular materials under constant compression, characterized in particular in that the instant settlement is obtained by virtue of a constant height of:
, The material corresponding to a determined level, due to the fact that the material which flows after reaching this level, is received in a balancing container which, by tilting under this load / causes the triggering of a mechanism balances a cleat integral with the probably armed leveling e-cout water port which performs an automatic leveling of the material at the opening of the measuring container and at the same time isolates this container from the rest of the material.
