Abstract

The system for closing a waste bin allows separation of plastic bottles or packaging from other waste. It comprises a sloping lid (6) fitted on to a first bin (4). This has a flap (8) which is biased upwards to the closed position by two springs (10). When bags of waste fall on to the lid, their weight is sufficient to open the flap against the force of the spring, but when plastic bottles fall on to it they slide down it and fall into a second bin (11).
