The materials used in the manufacture of the gas and producing the exothermic reaction constituting the first stage of the continuous process, in which a gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide is produced from oil or oxygen, are injected or introduced continuously, in suitably regulated proportions, into the chamber formed by the dome, by means of <EMI ID = 9.1>
that the term "oxygen" is to be understood as being commercially pure oxygen or oxygen-laden air as the case may be. The dome '[pound] is provided with a safety valve $, shown more or less schematically in the drawing. Just enough oxygen is introduced to convert the carbon in the oil to carbon monoxide and, when commercially pure oxygen is used, hydrogen-carbon monoxide gas, produced by the partial combustion of the gas. oil with oxygen which is an exothermic reaction, is at a maximum temperature of about 1650 [deg.]. Obviously, if oxygen-laden air is used, this temperature is lower because the nitrogen must be heated to dilute the oxygen. In
In any case, if the resulting temperatures are considered to be too high, that is to say higher than the temperatures generally used in gas manufacturing operations, additional oil and water vapor are introduced. continuously in the chamber formed in the dome [pound], in an appropriate proportion to transform the oil and the vapor, by the endothermic reaction which results from it, into carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
Below the lower part of the dome [pound] is a perforated floor system of any suitable type, the essential condition being that it has sufficient strength to support contact material

refractories, arranged as shown, give satisfaction.
As a result, as has just been said, the present invention relates to a vertical generator at the upper part of which there is a dome-shaped reaction chamber, provided with the equipment necessary for the continuous introduction of oil and oxygen and if deemed necessary and desirable, oil and steam, this chamber being partially filled with a bed of contact material such as solid carbon, for example coke, with which it comes into contact , during their descent, the gases formed by the reaction of oil and oxy-

On the bottom of the generator and in the middle of it, protrudes a hollow refractory column 11 which helps to

The contact material comes almost to the top of the annular chamber 17 surrounding the column 11
so as to constitute a space close to the upper part

to accommodate the additional gas-making materials mentioned above such as water vapor. and the oil which are injected into this chamber by

an endothermic reaction which not only gives rise to additional hydrogen carbon monoxide gas, in other words, increases the volume of gas produced, but

<EMI ID = 18.1>
this ensures a uniform temperature distribution
and an intimate mixture of materials used in the manufacture of the gas which passes through this contact material.
until this moment, therefore, there is a continuous process of manufacturing a gas: hydrogen-carbon monoxide, using the excess heat produced by the exothermic reaction of oil with oxygen for the endothermic production of gas: additional hydrogen-carbon monoxide, at the same time that the temperature of the gas is lowered: hydrogen-carbon monoxide to a temperature range in which the maximum yield of fixed gaseous hydrocarbon is obtained starting from gasified oil ,
While the gas: hydrogen-carbon monoxide passes continuously in the chamber formed by

which is continuously introduced into the gas: carbon dioxide hydrogen through the nozzles is adjusted with respect to the volume of gas: carbon dioxide hydrogen passing through the

resulting enriched or carburized hydrogen carbon monoxide to the desired value, for example, 4950 calorie gas or
<EMI ID = 24.1>
which intermediate value between approximately 4950 calories and 9000 calories per m.
In the variant embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 2, a vertical generating chamber is used lined with refractory material 1 and an asbestos-magnesia insulation or other suitable calorific substance. The outer casing is made of steel. The domed upper part of the generator is

as a fixed gaseous hydrocarbon starting from gasified oil, for example. Hydrocarbon vapors are converted into gaseous hydrocarbons fixed by heat, this cooling reaction being endothermic.The addition of enrichment hydrocarbons to the gas: hydrogen-carbon monoxide causes the gas to cool again, as is the case comprises, and consequently, in this embodiment of the invention, in order to obtain the maximum of fixed gaseous hydrocarbon in the gas: hydrogen-carburized carbon monoxide, the enriched gas is lowered through the annular chamber provided inside the column

The carburetted bone is heated (an operation known as superheating in the manufacture of carburized water gas) to the desired temperature within the 620-9000 range stated above. The volume of enrichment material intro-
