Il DISPOS 1T:IF DE CHANGEMENT DE V 3!.'5.'
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

It has 1T: IF OF CHANGE OF V 3!. '5.' he
The present invention relates to a new gear change device, capable of being employed, in general, in all cases where. a change of speed is required, for example in machine tools, in motor vehicles, in lifting devices, etc.
One of the main features of the device is that it can be used both as a speed reducer and as a speed change.
On the other hand, the mechanical arrangement is such that the driving shaft rotates at a constant speed, while the controlled shaft is capable of taking all the speeds between zero and a predetermined maximum speed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
As an example of the usefulness and importance of the ap -plioation of such a device, for example in automobile construction, it suffices to inform that starting would be in this case extremely easy and carried out at the intervention of a simple lever, which varies the speed from zero to the speed corresponding to the direct speed, the limit switch could directly couple the motor to the controlled shaft. Such an application of the gear change device can also be carried out on a motor vehicle, such that the first operates automatically, that is to say, without a lever intermediary and in proportion to the load.
In order to bring out the object of the invention more clearly, a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which: FIG. 1 is a vertical section through an apparatus particularly intended machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drills, etc. Fig.2 is a section along line II-II of fig.l; Fig.3 is a section on line III-III of fig.l; fig. 4 is a section along line IV-IV of fig.l,
According to these figures and in accordance with the invention, the apparatus comprises substantially in combination the following elements: a casing (2) is lying on a fixed base (1).
This casing (2) has a hub (3) on which a second casing (4) can turn. The latter also has a hub (5). The first casing (2) supports four ends of equidistant axles from the workshop with their respective cranks (22). These ends of axes are resting through roller bearings (23), and are supported on the other hand in bronze nozzles (27) secured to the corresponding flange 1
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
(28) of the device. On the aforesaid axle ends are mounted in a rigid manner levers (24) terminated at their free end by a roller (21), the latter being mounted on ball bearings.
The various rollers (21) press permanently, by the intervention of springs (36), on a cam (30), the hub of which rests by the intervention of roller bearings on the one hand in the hub (3 ), and on the other hand on the escapade (28). The hub of the cam (30) is extended externally to said flange and supports in ceprolongation a pulley (33) which is rigidly secured thereto and which constitutes the control member of the apparatus.
The housing (4) also supports four ends of axles from the workshop, 'with the cranks (17) (particularly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3). These axle ends rest on the one hand on said housing (4) by the roller bearing (SO) and on the other hand in the right flange (6) by means of the ball bearing (19). On these axle ends are fixedly mounted boxes (14) forming the outer element of the free wheels, the latter therefore being four in number. The inner part of the latter consists of a disc flanked laterally by a toothed pinion (13).
These four toothed pinions mesh simultaneously with a central toothed wheel (12) rigidly fixed on the controlled shaft (9), which rests on the one hand on the ball bearing (10), mounted in the right flange, and d the other part on a ball bearing (11), provided for this purpose in the hub of the control pulley (33).
The housing (4) can be moved angularly relative to the housing (3). This movement is obtained by actuation in the correct direction of a hand wheel (43), fixed on a shaft (40) of which is integral a pinion (39), meshing with the toothed sector (38). This combination therefore allows, by a simple and controllable maneuver, the intervention of a graduated disc (42)
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and a reference needle, to obtain variations as small as possible, and variable between zero and the predetermined maximum. Moreover, this hand wheel (43) can be fixed in the desired position, either by the engagement of a pawl or by the pressure of the fixing nut.
On the other hand, the wheel (43) can be replaced by a lever, a handle or any other member, capable of fulfilling the same function.
The connection between the two groups of members, belonging respectively to the housings (2) and (4) is effected by the engagement in the crank (22) of rollers (47), which are capable of turning. freely in the first, and can move in an oblong slot, cut in the longitudinal axis of these cranks.
Therefore, the operation of this speed change device is established as follows: the cane (30) (see fig. 2) having a special profile, and controlled by the pulley (33) successively removes the four levers (24) via the track rollers (SI) and moves the cranks (22), which are integral therein, by corresponding angular quantities. The oscillation movement of the cranks (22) causes a displacement of the rollers (47) and consequently of the cranks (17). From then on, under the impulse of the cam (30) the various connecting members between the two groups, included in the two housings, are successively driven by the same oscillation movement.
The latter is therefore transmitted to the boxes (14) and, by the same token, to the internal elements of the freewheels in one piece with the toothed gears (13). The latter, four in number in the example described above, urge one after the other the central toothed pinion (12), which is thus driven in a continuous rotational movement, because the cam is established as so that, when a pinion ceases to act, the next pinion attacks the central toothed pinion (12), and so on.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It follows that the rotational speed of the central toothed pinion (12) will depend -only on the angular displacement of the toothed pinion (13) while it urges the centered pinion 18)
Therefore, if this angular displacement decreases, a corresponding decrease in the speed of rotation of said central pinion (12) results. However, to vary the extent of the rotation of the pinion (13), it suffices to move the rollers (47) in the grooves of the cranks (22).
Indeed, if these rollers (47) merge for example with the corresponding axes (17), a lifting of the roller (21), that is to say an angular displacement of the cranks (24) will correspond to a rotational movement of the roller (47) around their axis and consequently zero oscillation of the cranks (17).
However, if the rollers (47) are moved away from the corresponding pins (22), an oscillation of said cranks (17) will be obtained which is all the greater the greater the distance between the axes of the crank (22). ) and rollers (47). This variation in the position of the rollers (47) is caused by the relative angular displacement between the two housings, then by the actuation of the hand wheel (43). The final speed of the controlled axis therefore depends at the end of the canpte on the relative position of the two housings.
However, this speed can still be changed depending on the housings by variations in the relationship between the outer gears (13) and the central gear (12). i
An alternative embodiment, capable of presenting appreciable advantages, in particular when it is not necessary to have a high speed of rotation, consisted in modifying the cam (30) so as to give it a special shape! for example having two or three ramps, however the device would only have two control levers (24).
Also the freewheel could be directly mounted on the driven shaft (9), in which case it would be stressed by a combination of connecting rods and cranks, connected!
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
to trees (17).
It should be noted that the direction of rotation of the controlled shaft depends only on the mounting position of the cam (30).
It could also be useful for the above-developed device to show variations in the speed of the automatically controlled shaft. This condition could easily be fulfilled by replacing the combination of hand wheel (43), toothed pinion (39) and toothed sector (38) with a set of adjustable springs, interconnecting the housings (2) and (4).
It would also be possible to mount the whole mechanism in a pulley, in such a way that by keeping the cam fixed, relative to the pulley, there would result an automatic reduction of speed proportional to the load, which would be d favorable application, particularly in fishing winches.
Moreover, the whole mechanism can also be directly mounted on a winch, so that all the internal gears can be omitted, by mounting the freewheel directly on the main shaft of the winch; an automatic speed change device can be provided in this case, so as to modify the speeds according to the load.
Likewise, the apparatus applied in the automotive industry can operate automatically and involves the driving wheels at a variable speed from zero to direct drive. It is understandable that one can develop a very great force on the driving wheels when starting; after this, the motor can be coupled directly and automatically to the driving wheels, in which case the device mechanism would be at rest.
The inventors predict that the change device
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
gear according to the present invention may be applicable in all cases of industry where a gear change device, automatic or not, is useful.
CLAIMS.
--------------------------------
1. Gear change device, characterized in that it consists in transmitting the rotational movement of a cam to an axis controlled by means of a set of levers and cranks and toothed pinions, of such so that the movement of these toothed pinions is consequent to a variable oscillating movement of the cranks, which are, on the other hand, moved by said cam; the speed variations of the controlled shaft resulting from the modification of the relative position of the connecting cranks between the @ control shafts and the controlled shafts.
