<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PREVENTING LEAKS AND CHECKING THE TIGHTNESS STATE OF A FLUID TRANSPORT PIPING"
The present invention relates to a method and device making it possible to eliminate the danger resulting from leaks that may occur in a pipe for transporting a fluid and to check the state of tightness of the latter.
It is known that the fear of possible leaks in the pipes for transporting a fluid, and especially a harmful fluid under pressure, currently forces us to renounce the placement of such pipes in places where a leak of this fluid may present. a danger. The transport lines known to date do not, in this case, give the desired solution.
The object of the present invention is a method making it possible to achieve absolute safety against any leakage of such a noxious fluid, by preventing it from leaving the transport pipeline.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
by the sealing defects of the latter.
For this purpose, according to the process of the ,, or feel invention, is created around the transport pipe a jacket of a harmless fluid whose pressure is greater than that of the fluid to be transported, so that case of a. lack of sealing, this harmless fluid flows from the outside towards the interior of the transport pipe.
To this end, according to the present invention, the pipe for transporting the harmful fluid is placed inside a tight casing and is introduced into the free space between this pipe and its casing, the harmless fluid that is maintained at a pressure greater than that of the noxious fluid-bran - carried.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment, this harmless fluid is constituted by a suitable liquid without action on the fluid transported and without danger for the premises where, following a possible leakage of said envelope, this liquid could spread. .
In order to be able to monitor the tightness of the transport pipeline, according to the method of the present invention, the pressure and / or the volume of the fluid surrounding this pipeline is or is kept normally constant, so that The existence of a sealing defect in this pipe is reflected in the lowering either of the pressure or of the volume of the aforementioned harmless fluid, which, in this case, flows into the transport pipeline.
According to the invention, the device allowing the implementation of the process consists essentially of a continuous sealed jacket with an inside diameter greater than the outside diameter of the pipe for transporting the harmful fluid, surrounding the latter and connected to a pipe. device putting and maintaining under pressure a harmless fluid, preferably a liquid, introduced into the free space between the jacket and the aforesaid pipe.
According to the invention, the aforesaid method and device are advantageously applicable to the placement of a gas under pressure lighting pipe in a tunnel where no gas leaks.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
is not tolerated.
Other characteristics of the present invention will emerge from the description of the attached schematic drawing, which shows by way of non-limiting example one of its embodiments in which water does the job of aforesaid harmless fluid.
In this drawing:
Fig. 1 is a schematic longitudinal section of a lighting gas pipe produced according to the present invention and placed in a tunnel under water, the section being taken along line II-II of Fig.2.
Fig.2 is a cross section along the line .1-1 of Fig.l.
Fig. 3 and 4 show, in longitudinal and transverse section, one of the many means for maintaining the transport pipe in its casing, without preventing the liquid from spreading over the entire length of the pipe.
To achieve absolute safety against any leakage of the lighting gas, the pipe 1 of which passes through a tunnel 2, according to the present invention, this pipe is surrounded by a jacket such as, for example, water brought to a higher pressure. to that of the gas transported in the pipeline.
For this purpose, according to the present invention, the transport pipe 1 is placed inside a pipe 3 with a diameter greater than that of the pipe 1 and the free space is introduced. 4 separating these two pipes from the water which is then maintained under pressure by suitable means.
In the example shown, this maintenance of the water under pressure is obtained by means of one or two water towers or pressure accumulators 5 placed on one or two banks where abontit the tunnel.'
To allow the water to spread uniformly over the entire length of the pipe 1, according to the invention, the latter is kept inside the pipe 3, at a certain distance from the wall of the latter, by for example, by collars 6 (Fig. 3 and 4) pierced with holes 7 or by
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
devices fitted with fins or protuberances, or by any other suitable means.
Examination of the drawing clearly shows that in the event of a made in the gas line 1, water. under pressure, in which this pipe is submerged, is introduced therein, prevents the exit of the gas by pushing it back into the interior of the pipe 1 and, if necessary, fills the part of the latter which is in rooms or rooms. places (tunnel under a stream.) where no gas leak can be allowed.
At the same time the flow of water from line 3 into line 1 causes the water level in tank or accumulator 5 to drop, which can be equipped with signaling devices and / or d. '' devices that automatically close the gas and water valves, which makes it possible to repair the leak in line 1 after the entire line 3 has been emptied or else only of its part in which the leak has occurred. waterproofness problem. This emptying can, of course, be carried out by any suitable means.
It goes without saying that in a variant of the device according to the present invention, the gas transport pipe 1 can be made of double-walled pipes, the end-to-end juxtaposition of which simultaneously forms a central duct for the passage. tank and a continuous outer jacket connected at one or both ends to the raised water tank.
It should be added that, as soon as the leakage of the gas pipe is indicated by the lowering of the water level, it is possible to locate this fault by visiting pipe 1 and decelerating leakage by the noise produced by the squirting of water entering -Pipe 1, either by direct hearing, or by auscultating pipe 3 using a microphone and an amplifier good; this search for the sealing defect can therefore be carried out without waiting for a total interruption of the gas flow following the filling of the gas pipe with water from the protective jacket. This thus results in a. precious time for repair work.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
It follows from the above that the present invention offers numerous advantages.
Thus, for example, not only does it make it possible to prevent the escape of gas from the transport pipe, but, in addition, it automatically signals a leakage fault in this pipe by a variation in level or in pressure. or the reservoirs 5 and it provides the means of easily locating the location of a leak by the noise of the squirt detected directly or by microphone.
If a leak were to occur in enclosure 3, only a harmless liquid such as water could spill into the tunnel, the quantity of which would be insuffi- cient to present a danger of flooding, given the ratio. between the section of the tunnel and that of pipe 3 placed under floor 8. Such a leak would be reported immediately by the aforementioned signaling devices.
The creation, according to the invention, of a jacket of pressurized fluid around the transport pipe 1, gives a safety which can be considered as absolute in comparison with methods which would consist, for example, in surrounding @ this pipe with a jacket under vacuum, given that, if, by a fortuitous coincidence, the devices creating the vacuum were to stop, when there is a leak in the gas transport pipe, the gas would build up under pressure in pipe 3 and would risk spilling into the premises crossed by this pipe in the event of the latter leaking leakage.
It goes without saying that the present invention is in no way limited to its embodiment which is only described and shown in its application to a gas pipe passing through a tunnel, since the method and the device described can be modified according to the requirements. requirements of practice and construction, of the nature and pressure of the fluid to be transported, without thereby departing from the principle of the present invention
