Fig. 1 est une vue en élévation latérale et coupe d'une vanne à registre;
Fige 2 est une vue en coupe, obtenue à 90 de celle de la fig. 1;
Le but poursuivi
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

IMPROVEMENTS TO STEAM, HYDRAULIC, AND SIMILAR TANNES.
The invention relates to steam valves, hydraulic valves, and the like, and more specifically relates to the type of valve in which a stem passes through a seal or packing and a cover fixed to the body of the valve.
The object of the invention is to provide improved means for securing the cover to the body of the valve, and generally to provide a lossotated valve construction.
According to the invention, the valve cover is adapted to the valve body in such a way that the fluid pressure inside the valve applies said cover to its seat.
According to the invention, furthermore, the valve cover which includes a stuffing box, is disposed in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
valve body and is secured or locked ¯ in this position by means of one or more brackets or bridge pieces, resting on the valve body and attracted towards the valve cover by means of prisoners , or a nut engaged on a threaded portion of the valve cover.
One embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view in section of a register valve;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view, obtained at 90 from that of FIG. 1;
Fig 3 is a plan view, in section, taken along the line X-X of Fig 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawing, the part a constituting the body of the valve is provided with an inlet b and an outlet c, behind which are arranged seats 1 for the usual register e. The register is conditioned to work in guides 1 formed in the main body, thus allowing the register to move vertically by sliding up and down while it cannot turn or warp.
The valve body a is extended upwards to form a chamber g which allows the displacement of the register when it is brought to the open position by means of the valve stem h.
The upper part of the valve body is provided with an oval-shaped opening and a flange or projecting rim j to allow the introduction of an oval-shaped valve cover k, the latter having a housing. stuffing m, forming body with him. The underside of the flange or projecting rim j is constructed so as to ... form a seat, which cooperates with a seat n formed on the upper face of the valve cover k. The goal pursued
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
by giving an oval shape to the opening of the body and to the valve cover, is to allow the introduction of the latter in the above-mentioned opening, in a manner well known in the establishment of the covers of manholes.
A .0 stem yoke is bolted to the top of the valve body using p bolts, and is used to support a nut sleeve @ and handwheel s. The sleeve-nut r is mounted in the caliper o by means of twin bearings 1 so as to absorb the axial thrust of the valve stem in each direction.
The valve stem h is attached to the register e in a removable manner, using a bayonet-type seal, so that the stem can be easily separated from it, for example by turning it a quarter of a turn .
In order to prevent the rotation of the valve stem h while the handwheel s is being operated, a stem guide II is provided provided with forked ends conditioned to act jointly with the guide surfaces formed therein. on the caliper o, this guide .0, being adjusted on the rod h and secured in position with the aid of an éoror w. The rod guide u is preferably mounted on the rod h so that it can only be assembled in one position, such as the manner shown, ie in. forming in the guide u a D-shaped opening which cooperates with a D-shaped part, 2, of the valve stem h.
The stuffing box ± is made in one piece with the valve cover and takes the form of a cylindrical extension of the cover, in which fits the usual pressure member 3 for compressing the stuffing. 4 surrounding the valve stem h.
Eyebolts 5, pivotally supported by the stuffing box, pass through openings formed in the flange of the member 3, which can be tightened with nuts engaged on the eyebolts 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The valve cover k is held in place by two stirrups 6, the ends of which rest in recesses 7 made in the top of the valve body, while the stirrups 6 are brought back towards the valve cover k, at an intermediate point between their ends, by bolts 8,
In another construction, use is made of a stirrup or bridge piece which surrounds the stuffing box, the latter being provided with an external thread to receive a locking element intended to bring the cover and the stirrup closer together.
In a valve established in accordance with the invention, the valve cover, which is disposed inside the valve body, is returned to its seat by the pressure prevailing in the valve, which thereby contributes to maintaining a seal. etanohe,
The valve is furthermore constructed in such a way as to allow easy assembly and disassembly of its parts.
To disassemble the valve, the nut w is loosened and moved over the portion / of the stem h, which allows the stem guide to be lifted and moved away.% Of the D-shaped part, 2, of rod h. When the pressure member 3 has been released, the rod h can be rotated 90 in order to release its bayonet seal from the register e. After unbolting the stem yoke .2 from the valve body, the yoke o and the stem h can be separated from the valve body.
By removing the stirrups 6, the valve cover can be manipulated, due to its oval shape, and pulled out through the opening in the top of the valve body.
