<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvements in washing machines".
A first patent has been requested for the benefit of the inventor concerning improvements to washing machines.
The present improvements relate more particularly to a device making it possible to engage in an extremely easy manner, either the device for actuating the threshing arms of the washing machine, or the mechanism for actuating a wringer. the clutch device, which is the subject of the present improvements, comprises in principle a friction cone sleeve,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
capable of being moved at the same time as the hub of the machine actuating wheel and of being moved away from or brought into contact with a conical element integral with the control axis of a twisting machine.
Simultaneously, the aforesaid removable hub carries a toothed clutch, capable of being brought into contact with an element of similar profile, rigidly fixed to the motor shaft of the washing machine in such a way that - this corresponds to the release of the control mechanism of the grinder and vice versa.
The clutch device, which is the subject of the invention, is illustrated in detail in the accompanying figures in which:
Fig.1 is an axial section through the device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the fully equipped washing machine including the control device for the wringer.
This device comprises substantially in combination the following elements: a flywheel 1 controlled by the engine or by any other driving arrangement and rigidly secured to a hub 2 bearing on the axis 3 which constitutes the control axis of the machine mechanism to be washed.
Said hub 2 and consequently flywheel 1, are capable of moving along said axis 3, through the intervention of a handle 4, the head 5 of which is provided with a threaded orifice which can move along the threaded part 6 of the aforementioned axis.
In order to limit the stroke of said handle 4, during the unscrewing operation, a nut 7 is placed on a constricted part 8 of the axis 3; this nut 7 therefore forms a stop for the head / of the handle 4 and prevents the latter from being removed during unscrewing.
The inner face of the hub. 2 is profiled so as to present one or more protrusions 9 forming the back one
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
parts of a device and the clutch, the second part of which is formed by the corresponding duly profiled face of a sleeve 10 rigidly fixed to the axle 3. A coil spring 11 is arranged between the hub 2 and the sleeve 10, is housed in recesses corresponding to this part and surrounds the corresponding part of the axis 3. In this way, this coil spring 11 tends to move the hub 2 permanently away from each other and sleeve 10.
On the other hand, a friction bevel wheel 12 is mounted on the hub 2 and is secured there to the intervention of a screw
13. This friction part therefore follows all the movements of the hub 2 and consequently can be rigidly fixed to the axle.
15 for controlling the mechanism of the twister.
This friction member 14 is preferably constituted by a sleeve having a wheelbase against which are firmly juxtaposed and clamped a series of washers of leather or any other material deemed suitable established and profiled so as to present the required conical profile.
As a result, the contact surface presented to the bevel wheel 12 offers perfect adhesion and consequently determines assured operation of the device. the transmission of rotational movement from the axis 15 to the cylinder of the twist can be carried out by any known means, by axis, ball joint, cardan joint, etc.
Therefore, for the commissioning of the washing machine, it suffices to screw the handle 4 thus pushing back the steering wheel 1 and the hub 2, separating the bevel wheel 12 from the bevel wheel 14 and juxtaposing the protuberances 9 with the corresponding profile of the sleeve 10.
It therefore follows that the rotational movement of the flywheel 1 will be transmitted only to the axis 3 and consequently to the actuation mechanism of the washing machine. In addition, the spacing of the cones 12 and 14 determines the immobilization
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
. of the wringer mechanism. On the other hand, by loosening the handle 4, the flywheel 1, the hub 2 and the bevel wheel 12 are returned to the initial position under the action of the biasing of the return spring 11. As a result, the release mechanism The washing machine control is disengaged by the spacing of the protrusions 9 and the cone 12, driven by a continuous rotational movement, is brought into contact with the cone 14, the latter thus being driven by a corresponding movement , which is transmitted to the twisting device.
In addition, the inventor has planned to have, between the speed reducer and the twist itself, a clutch enabling said twist to be stopped independently of the transmission members. This disengaging device can in principle be any one and formed, for example, by two parts which can be juxtaposed or separated so as to engage or disengage the device.
It should be noted that the device thus produced ex @ luteotently the use of belts, chains or other control members, liable to easy breaking, maladjustment, etc.
It should also be noted the extreme flexibility with which one can switch from the use of the washing machine to the use of the wringer, given that for this purpose all that is needed is a simple operation of the handle described above.
It is understandable that the device described and illustrated should only be considered as an exemplary embodiment and can obviously undergo any structural variant, not affecting the substance of the present invention.
