<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Figure 1 est une coupe verticale du dispositif ;
Figure 2 en est une vue par dessus ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Improvements to the management bodies of small and medium-sized
Motocultivators "
On medium or small tillers, the management members, generally constituted by two handlebars, are generally articulated relative to the body of the device in order to be able to receive a variable inclination, these members being able to be maintained in the desired position by a locking device. It is in fact necessary to be able to modify the inclination of these members in order to adapt the tiller, for example to the size of the driver or to the nature of the work performed.
The blocking devices used in the known motor cultivators can be either locally controlled or remotely controlled from the handle of one of the handlebars, via a linkage or a cable from the handle. like "Bowden". The first of these control modes has serious drawbacks due to the fact that it makes it necessary to let go of the macharons in order to carry out the adjustment and that the point of articulation of said handlebars is often difficult to access. On the other hand, the. remote control by linkage or cable is generally complicated, bulky and easily subject to damage.
The present invention relates to an adjustment device which makes it possible to avoid the above-mentioned drawbacks. This device 'mainly comprises, on the one hand, a surface or surface portion
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
substantially cylindrical integral with the said body and with an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the latter and, on the other hand, two parts screwing into one another,
connected respectively to the two steps of the tiller and interposed between the external part of the cylindrical surface and a stop connected to a member resting on the internal part of said surface, these two parts being able to exert pressure on the one hand on the stopper and, on the other hand, on the outer part of the cylindrical surface.
The cylindrical surface integral with the body of the device can, for example, be pierced with a slot located substantially in the axis of said device and crossed by a bolt which can slide in this slot and is retained inside the surface. cylindrical by a nut. The parts screwing into one another and respectively integral with each of the handlebars, threaded onto the bolt, then apply, on the one hand, to the head of this bolt and, on the other hand, directly or indirectly on the external part of the cylindrical surface, the nut holding the bolt on its side, directly or indirectly, on the internal part of said surface.
It will be understood that the two pieces, screwing into each other, act as an expanding spacer washer. A movement of the handlebars apart, for example, causes the screwing of these parts one into the other and consequently the reduction of the separator of the washer that they constitute, from which it resulted that the cylindrical surface is no longer clamped between these parts and the bolt stop nut. We can then slide the latter in the slot, by raising or lowering the handlebars.
A movement in the opposite direction, for example bringing the treads together, causes the unscrewing of the pieces and engages one in the other and the increase of our total thickness, the cylindrical surface being again pinched between these pieces. and the stop nut, and the bolt thus being locked in the new position given to them.

Other details of the invention appear in the description given below with reference to the appended drawing which represents an example of a device in accordance with the invention. In this drawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical section of the device;
Figure 2 is a top view;
Figure 3 is a schematic side view of the assembly of a tiller provided with a device according to the invention.
In the device shown, 1 is a hollow arm secured to the body of the tiller and in which can slide a rod 2 actuating the control members of the motor of the latter. The rod 2 comprises a tenon 3 cooperating with a fork 4 carried by the end of an operating lever 5 articulated on the arm 1 and penetrating into the latter through a slot 6.
At the end of the arm 1 is welded a metal cylinder 7, of axis perpendicular to that of said arm and on the surface of which is formed a slot 8 disposed in the extension of the arm 1. This slot is crossed by a bolt 9 provided with 'a head 10, the threaded end of which is hollowed out in the shape of a fork and engages with a longitudinal clearance 11 on an axis 12 centered in the cylinder and mounted on supports
13 fixed inside the latter.
On the bolt 9 are threaded two washers 14 and 15 each having a cylindrical face corresponding respectively to the inner and outer surfaces of the cylinder 7 and capable of being clamped against these faces between, on the one hand, a nut 16 held by a counter- nut 17 and, on the other hand, a sleeve 18 threaded externally at 19. This sleeve 18 cooperates with an internally threaded sleeve 20, also threaded onto the shank of bolt 9 and resting on the head 10 of this last by a litter 21.
On the sleeve 20 is welded one of the handlebar 23 of the tiller, the other handlebar 24 being welded on a sector 22 which carries two stops 25 limiting the relative movement of the handlebar 23
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and the sector 22. Eufin, a spring 2G is fixed by its respective ends to two lugs 27 protected by the machierons 23 and 24. The thread pitch of the sleeve 18 of the sleeve 20 is such that the spacing of the sleeves 23 and 24 causes the penetration of the sleeve in the sleeve and, consequently, the loosening of the washers 14 and 15 and that, conversely, the bringing together of these handles caused the tightening of these washers against the cylindrical surface 7, thus locking the bolt 9 with respect to the latter.
The presence of the sector 22, the stops 25 and the spring 26 is not essential.
To modify the inclination of the tiller handles, for example as a function of) the size of the driver, it is therefore sufficient to separate the handle handles by overcoming the action of the spring 26 and by giving a jerk to release the washers 14 and 15. By relieving or lowering the handlebars as appropriate, the bolt 9 is moved in the. slot 8 and, once the handlebars have been brought to the desired position, it suffices to bring them together again abruptly so that the assembly is locked in this position.
FIG. 1 has been shown in solid lines for the first, and in phantom lines for the second, the two extreme adjustment positions of the device.
As can be seen, this adjustment is obtained directly by acting on the handlebars, without it being necessary to release the latter and without the intervention of a remote control, from the handles, for example using 'a flexible. like "Bowden".
