 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

  "Method for printing casting supports composed of colloids".

   The present invention relates to a process for printing casting supports composed of colloids, such as they are used, for example, for the process of csouléa of embossed films described in French patent 583, 691 of October 21, 1929. in the name of the applicant. For this purpose, the casting support is provided, by the application of a profiled roller, with a system of parallel grooves or grooves. When casting films, these grooves are filled: by the casting solution, so that the finished film shows on its underside a negative reproduction of the surface of the casting support, under

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the form of a system of parallel reliefs.

   These reliefs constitute the lenticular elements of the film and have the shape of cylindrical segments.

   Depending on the optical conditions desired for setting and depending on the thickness of the film, it is necessary to give the lenoular elements of the embossing, that is to say to the above-mentioned cylindrical segments, a different radius of curvature. It would therefore be necessary to use for each radius of curvature a special embossing roller profiled in a corresponding manner. The invention relates to a rough process which can be used to prepare embossings with different radii of curvature by applying a single embossing roll.

   To this end, the casting support, composed of a colloid, for example gelatin, cellulosic asters, cellulosic ethers, artificial resins, etc., is treated with a blowing agent of way that it swells. In this state, i.e. with its thicker layer, the casting support, is printed, as described in the aforementioned patent, preferably by heating the embossing roll, with the aid of a coil wound from a helical winding of fine metal wire or. using positive reproduction of said roll or other roll prepared in any way, for example by gravure.

   By evaporation of the swelling agent, the colloid layer, forming the casting support, is reduced in volume and, consequently, the relief imparted to the casting support when the latter was in the swollen state. , flattens. If therefore one produces.for example, by the imprint of the grooves or cane-. lures whose section has the shape of a semicircle, they flatten to such a point that the transverse section represents only a small segment of a circle, that is to say that the lenticular element cular has a greater radius of curvature than the roller used for printing or imprinting, the more the swelling before printing is accentuated, the greater the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 relief flattens after drying.

   By a suitable composition of the swelling liquid and by a duration of the swelling treatment well graduated in each case, the formation of the relief can be regulated at will.

   If the casting support consists of a layer of a cellulose derivative, for example a layer of cellulose nitrate or cellulose acetate, it is advantageous to subject it, 'printing finished, to a subsequent harsh treatment of the French patent N 637.012 of July 5, 1927 to the non de laquête sa. so that its surface is entirely or partially regenerated in cellulose. The solder support thus treated allows the production of very clean embossing.

RESUME. ABSTRACT. The object of the invention is; 1.) The process for printing casting media, composed of colloids, for making lenticular element films whose radius of curvature does not depend on that of the embossing cylinder, the process of inflating the casting media first with a swelling agent, optionally mixed with a liquid not having a swelling action, and printing it in this state, preferably by heating the embossing cylinder. 2.) 2.) The process for printing media from. casting, composed of cellulose derivatives, more especially cellulose esters, according to 1, consisting in regenerating, after printing, the casting support surface wholly or partially of cellulose by suitable treatment.
