<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
5 susdite.

"Gauge device for shaping bent articles from tubes". the present invention relates to -on caliber device characterized in that it can be securely fixed in -on vice or any other clamping device generally used in mechanics; that on the other hand it is profiled so as to. allow cold working of tubes such as those generally used for the manufacture of chandeliers, coat racks and elbows in general. According to the present invention the tube can be shaped in one or more operations with or without prior sand filling as generally required in known procedures.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the gauge device; in Figure 2 / is a plan view; FIG. 3 is an elevational view of the claw: integral with the gauge; FIG. 4 a plan view of the same claw; Figure 5 is a plan view of an article formed using the foregoing gauge.
According to the examination of these figures it is clear that the device comprises substantially in combination the following elements: a metal strip 1, profiled in an approximately S-shape, which is rigidly fixed to a lower reoti-line element 2, serving as socket for fixing the device in the vice or other clamping device. The element 1 comprises in the zone of connection of the soft curves a recess @, intended for the passage of the tube during the shaping of the first corrta be. This recess is also required to allow the adaptation on the tube, after shaping of the first curve, of a cup of any artistic shape required and generally provided on articles of the kind.
This recess forms an essential characteristic of the invention owing to the ease and speed of the work which results therefrom. In order to allow the shaping of the first curve, the element 1 comprises 2. its end and rigidly fixed therein a claw 4. The latter is constituted by an angled piece attached to said element 1 ety by welding, brazing or other known means. In its border part, this claw is provided with an orifice 6 intended for the passage of a shoulder of the attachment tab 5 of the shaped object.
On the other hand, this claw in its vertical part has a cutout 7, which is required to serve as a fulcrum for the fastening rod which would replace the tab in some parts.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
5 above. In this case the orifice 6 of the claw would be replaced by this cutout.
As it therefore emerges from the description of the caliber device forming the subject of the invention, the procedure for. obtaining a mowing curved piece, for example the one illustrated in FIG. 5, this comprises the following way: the rectilinear tube to be used for the manufacture of the object is first of all furnished with the tab or fastening element 5 any. This is firmly fixed and can therefore be introduced into the claw 4, and therefore serve as a fulcrum for shaping the first curve which will be done by winding the tube around the first curve. corresponding. For this purpose, the tube will be easily directed due to the presence of the recess 3, after which the cup 8 is placed on the currently rectilinear part of the part, the central orifice of which is established accordingly.
This element can be fixed during or after the shaping of the part. It is also understood that the latter is not strictly required and is dependent on the part to be shaped. Then the rectilinear part of the part is curved by overlapping the second curve of the gauge.
It is understood that the caliber and particularly the element 1 can offect any curve or combination of curve or even any combination of rectilinear part and curved part without departing from the protection of the invention. Also the dimensions and the arrangement of the various curves relative to each other are in principle arbitrary.
