"Friction brake for vehicles".
The present intention relates to a friction brake for vehicles, and more particularly to a brake in which pads are applied at the time of braking against the cylindrical inner surface of a drum made integral with the wheel or other rotating members. ,,
Its purpose is to produce a brake of simple and robust construction making it possible to achieve energetic progressive braking and in which all the pads exert equal pressure on the drum.
For this purpose, all the pads are simultaneously moved towards the periphery of the drum by a displacement
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
angular printed on a cam profile, comprising a number of projections equal to the number of pads and pushing radial pushers towards the periphery of the drum, each acting on two neighboring pads.
Further features of the present invention will become apparent from the description of the accompanying drawing, which shows by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the brake according to the invention.
In this drawing: Figure 1 is a view of the brake with a bottom of the drum removed; Figure 2 is a view of the brake drum from the side opposite to that of Figure 1.
As can be seen in the drawing, the brake comprises a cylindrical drum 1 inside which are radially disposed four pads 3, provided with linings 3 made of a material with a high coefficient of friction. A radial recess 4 is formed in each shoe 2, in which a pivot 5 can slide so as to guide the movement of the shoes. The shoes are further guided laterally by parts 6. The pivots 5 and the parts of guide 6 are fixed as usual on the flat bottom 7 of the brake drum which is appropriately immobilized and has a central passage through which the axle passes
8 driven by a rotational movement and also driving the cylindrical wall 9 of the brake drum.
In order to cause the simultaneous movement of the pads 2, towards the periphery, a part 10 with a cam profile comprising four equal and symmetrical projections is mounted on the base 7 so as to be able to move angularly relative to the latter by a rotation around the center of the drum.
Four movable pushers are also mounted on the 7 'base
11, guided in their movements by collars 12. The end of each pouesoir 11 directed towards the periphery of the drum ends in a fork whose branches are placed in front.

It follows from examination of the drawing that when the part 10 is angularly moved in one direction or the other, the protrusions 16 of the part 10 will move the pushers 11 towards the periphery, so that the rollers 14 and 15 will exert a thrust on the pads 2 which will be applied against the

CLAIMS.
1. Friction brake for vehicles, in which pads disposed radially inside a drum are applied when braking against its cylindrical surface, characterized in that the peripheral displacement of said pads is caused by a partial rotation imparted to a part comprising cams, between which and the pads are arranged rigid pushrods displaced by the projections of said cams so as to exert on the pads a radial pressure directed towards the periphery of the drum.
