à l'extrémité de la table ;

mètres, et monté pour coulisser dans un alésage de forme correspondante pratiqua dans un manchon 94 coulissant dans un support 95 partant de la table en dessous de la bande su- périeure du transporteur (fig. 1 9 et 11) ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>
Afin d'amener des longueurs déterminées de la bande d'obturation, les galets 139 et 140 sont entraînés de manière positive par une roue dentée 176 (fig.l et 9) s'engrenant dans une roue dentée 177 représentée en traits pointillés sur la fig.9) fixée sur l'arbre 141 du galet d'avance. Cet arbre 141 est commandé par une roue à rochet 178 fixée sur cet arbre 141 , et par un cliquet 179 monté sur un levier 180 moté fou sur l'arbre 141 .Ce levier est actionné par le levier 181, en forme de plaque triangulaire (fig.9, 11 et 12) supporté pour pivoter par un support 182 fixé au bâti par des tourillons (183 formant saillies latéra- les sur ce levier 181 avec l'arbre 102*traversant l'ouvertu- re 184 pratiquée dans la plaque 181 et avec le levier 180 au moyen d'une bielle 185 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 15>
<Desc/Clms Page number 16>
<Desc/Clms Page number 17>

<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
and are carried by the slides 106 pour'permiser the latter to have an independent movement relative to the slides 107. These slides are substantially T-shaped (Fig. 12) with longitudinal edges. each beveled in the direction of the other, in order to slide in the grooves 111 of the slides 106 whose walls. opposites aont bevelled to correspond to the bevel of the edges, lateral slides 107 = and said slides are retained in the grooves by dea plates 112 (Fig. 19).
The heads of the slides 107 protrude in front of the slides. 116 in a relation determines, with the jaws of these heads (fig. 13) and they are pushed elastically. in this position by springs 113, one end of which. is housed in cavities 114 made in slides 106 for example by
115 their opposite end pressing against blocks 116 fixed to the slides 107 and sliding in. the cavities 114 by means of ae pins fixed in these blocks in engagement with. Springs.
A plate 117 is fixed by key screws. at the head of the slides 107, a part of this plate protruding beyond the heads of the slides (fig. 13) in order to come into contact with, and to crush the containers and to fulfill another purpose which will be described. further.
The slides are actuated by cams 118 fixed on the shaft 67 in the form of rollers provided with circumferential grooves, and connected to these cams by levers. 119 supported at 120 on the arms of the column p (fig. 1.6) 7, 9, 11 and 13).
The levers have parallel arms 119a and 119b connected together at one end (Fig. 15). The slides. 106 are connected to the arms 119a by engaging with. a fork 106 'and a pin 121 fixing in dea holes made in the branches of the fork passing through an opening 122 made in the lever arms 119a The lever arms 119b are longer than the braa 119a and are. connected to cams 118 by means of roller 123 in engagement with the grooves of the cams On
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
gives to the levers, 119, by the rotation of the cams and the engagement of the rollers 123 with the grooves of these cams, an oscillatory movement which causes the reciprocating movement of the slides.
To obtain the closure element which will be clamped on the crushed end of the containers, it is mounted at 126 so that it can rotate a roll 124 of metal tape W between the arms 125 mounted on the table (fig.
6 and 7). The strip is guided by a flanged roller 127 rotating on the arms 128 of the frame 129 (Figs. 6, 7 and 25) attached to the opposite sides of the die block 130 and protruding beyond this block. The upper surface of the block is provided with a rib 131 of V-shaped section and in a progressive ramp from its outer end to its connection to the frame 129 (FIG. 25). An additional stamping element 132, shaped to correspond to the rib 131, is supported to pivot at 133 on the stamping block, the end of this element being provided with a part 134 for gripping it, and the locking plate. stamping being provided with ears 135 intended to guide the strip between the stamping elements.
The dies 132 and 130 are interconnected for their operation by a latch 136 mounted on a pin 137 engaged in a cavity formed in the die block and normally pushed by a spring 138 engaging it in a cavity 135 formed, in the forging plate (fig. 25 and 26). The strip first receives the shape shown in lafig.9 by passing between the dies. This strip is driven between the dies 130 and 132 by the feed rollers 139 and 140 arranged to give the strip its final shape.
The roller 140 is fixed on a shaft 141 rotating in frame members 129 net, one end of which is arranged to allow the use of a wrench (fig. 6) to rotate the feed rollers to initiate the entry. Of the band . The other roller 139 is mounted to be able to rotate in elements

frame 129 so as to be able to be moved closer to or away from the roller 140 by fixing to a shaft 142 which can rotate in blocks 143 sliding in forks formed in frame elements and adjustable by means of screws 144 mounted in a plate 145. The periphery of roller 140 has a V-shaped section, and that of roller 139 is hollowed out so as to correspond to that of roller 140 which engages in this V-shaped groove.
The periphery of the roller 140 is provided with transverse teeth 146 (fig. 29) and the bottom of the groove made in the periphery of the roller 139 is provided with corresponding dets serving as clamping means to ensure the advancement of the band as well as for print on this band corresponding teeth 147 reinforcing it in the curvature (fig. 28 and 33). The strip is guided from the die-forging elements 130 and 132 to the rollers 139 and 140, thanks to the opposite conical faceq of said elements 148 (fig.8).
The strip in its final form arrives at the guide element 149 projecting forward from the frame elements 129 and of cross section corresponding to that of the finished strip and is guided by the guide 149 to the cut-off mechanism which separates a determined length from the strip having its final shape, in order to constitute the closure element (fig. 24).
The cut-off mechanism (fig.ll and 20 to 23) comprises a fixed cutting element, and a cutting element with transverse reciprocating movement in advance of the band.
The fixed cutting element comprises blocks 150 and 151; block 150 is provided with a V-rib 152 is notched at 153, and its left end (fig. 11, 22 and 23) constitutes a cutting edge. Block 151 is superimposed on block 150 and both are provided with holes 153 in alignment; screws are engaged in certain holes of the block 151 and are screwed into corresponding holes of the other block in order to
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
Renew these two blocks, the corresponding pins 154 being engaged in the other holes (fig. 21).
The block 151 is provided with a cavity 155 in the form of an inverted to correspond to the rib 152 of the other block, but a little larger in order to leave between the cavity and the rib a space slightly larger than the thickness of the metal of the strip and in which the feed rollers bring the strip supported by its edges into contact with the notched part
153. The combined cutting blocks are attached to column P by screws 156.
The reciprocating cutting element comprises blocks 157 and 157 of length equal to that of the section of band to be cut, as shown in FIG. 24; the block
157 is also provided with an inverted V-shaped rib 158 which is notched at 159 to support the tape on its edge. The other cutting block 157 is of the same length as the block 157 to which it is fixed by screws, for example by
160. The cutting block 157 'is provided with an inverted V-shaped cavity 161 corresponding to the rib 158 but slightly larger in order to leave between the cavity and the rib, a space equal to the thickness of the strip.
The left end of the block (fig. 11, 22 and 23) constitutes a cutting edge cooperating with the edges of the blocks 150 and 151 to shear the strip * The cutting element 157-157 'is carried by the head
162 by engaging by means of screws the cutting block 157 in a cavity 163 formed in the head, such as for example at 164.
The head 162 is carried by rods
165 passing through column P, this head engaging with a guide path formed in the vertical part
166 of an element 167 fixed to the column P and joining the fixed cutting element in which it is retained by the marking plates 168 (fig. 21)
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
The rods 165 are connected to a lever 169 mounted at 170 on the frame 129; this lever and the head are urged by springs 171 in contact with an adjustment screw 172 screwed into the plate 173 to serve for the adjustment and the alignment of the guide passages of the strip between the fixed and oscillating cutting elements.
In order to be able to give the oscillating cutting element its cutting movement, the lever 169 is actuated by the cam 174 fixed on the shaft 67 in engagement with the roller 175 mounted on the lever.
In order to bring determined lengths of the sealing strip, the rollers 139 and 140 are positively driven by a toothed wheel 176 (fig. 1 and 9) meshing with a toothed wheel 177 shown in dotted lines on the figure. fig.9) fixed on the shaft 141 of the advance roller. This shaft 141 is controlled by a ratchet wheel 178 fixed to this shaft 141, and by a pawl 179 mounted on a lever 180 driven crazy on the shaft 141. This lever is actuated by the lever 181, in the form of a triangular plate ( fig. 9, 11 and 12) supported to pivot by a support 182 fixed to the frame by journals (183 forming lateral projections on this lever 181 with the shaft 102 * passing through the opening 184 made in the plate 181 and with the lever 180 by means of a connecting rod 185;
this lever receives an oscillatory movement and by this means the lever 180 oscillates under the action of the roller 186 in engagement with the cam groove formed in the disc 187 fixed on the shaft 102 this roller being carried by a pin fixed in a boss 188 protruding on the plate 181 opposite the journal 183. The pawl engages the teeth of a wheel 178 under the action of a spring stopper 179 sliding in a cavity formed in the lever.
In order to keep the pawl away from the ratchet wheel 178 and to prevent the operation of the advancing device, the roller 189, a flat part of which has been removed, is carried so as to rotate by the lever arm,

and when it is rotated with its cut flat part facing the pawl, this pawl is in position to cooperate with the ratchet wheel; when a circular part of this roller is in contact with the pawl, the latter moves and is held out of engagement with the ratchet wheel; this roller is adjusted by means of the rod 189 'which is fixed to it.
The operation is as follows: with the conveyor stopped, the receptacle lifting mechanism 92 is actuated so that it places the open end of the receptacle in position between the slides 107; at this time, these slides there? are actuated with the slides 106 such that the plates 117 come into contact with the container and crush together the opposite sides of the open end, as for example at 30 and along the mixed lines B 'of FIG. .ll.
The mechanism for advancing and shaping the strip is then activated: the advance of the strip brings the stamping blocks 157 and 147 to a previously cut-off length of the finished strip (fig. 24) above the end. of the container on the plate 117 and on a calibration block 190 (fig.ll, 13, 14, 15t 30 to 32) attached to part 108 of column P. The container lifting mechanism is then actuated again to place the container in the position shown in fig. 31 and at this time the crushing device and the slides 106 are actuated again, causing the clamps to be clamped. jaws 110 and 110 the closure element on the crushed end of the container.
On the other hand, the clamping element is grooved longitudinally as in 191 (fig. 32 and 33) in order to block the material of which the container is formed with the closure element in order to prevent. 'tearing off the closure element of the container and also to strengthen and stiffen this element. The ripple 191 is obtained by means of the head 192 disposed on the

length of the jaw 110 while the other clamping jaw 110 'is provided with a cavity 193 corresponding to the head 192.
At the same time as the closure element is tightened on the container, parts of this element are pressed into the container, as shown at 195 in FIG. 22, in order to prevent the longitudinal displacement of the element. the closure element on the container, using needles 194 carried by the jaw 110 '(fig. 30 and 31) during the time interval required by the re-installation of the closed container on the conveyor and by the return of the slides, the cutting mechanism is actuated to cause it to cut in the shaped strip, a closure element which will be retained in the space provided between the cutting blocks 157 and 15 'while waiting for it to be brought above the crushed end of the next container.
In order to adjust the displacement of the slides 106, a laterally adjustable wall part has been placed in a wall of the grooves of the cams 118, comprising blocks 196 (fig. 9 and 10) mounted to slide on the periphery of the cams. to allow them an axial adjustment and fixing by means of screws 197, adjustable block stop screws being screwed into the wall of the cam cavities, as in 198.
One has provided, between the drive shaft 67 and the driven shaft 47, a coupling device capable of yielding when a resistance greater than an expected load is applied to the rotational movement of the shaft 47, such as, for example, as a result of jamming of the transfer mechanism resulting from faulty conditions of passage from the containers to the conveyor. This coupling comprises a toothed wheel 199 fixed on the shaft 67 meshing with a wheel 200 itself meshing with a wheel 201 fixed on the shaft 102 ′ to drive the latter shaft, and a pinion 202 s 'meshing with a wheel 203 mounted on the shaft 47.
The toothed wheel 203 is coupled with the shaft 47 by means of a head 204 fixed on this shaft and

coupled to the wheel by means of a pin 205 made of an easily severable dobby such as brass, engaged in a sleeve 206 of hardened metal such as steel, mounted in the head, and also engaged in a similar sleeve 207 mounted in a disc 208 spinning idle on the shaft; this sleeve 207 is eccentric with respect to the axis of the head and to that of the disc, and this disc is positively coupled with the toothed wheel 203 by means of ears 209 protruding on the disc and engaged in a transverse slot 210 made in the hub of the toothed wheel.
Because the pin 200 is soft metal and the sleeves are hardened metal, these sleeves behave like blades and shear the pin if a resistance greater than the expected load is caused by the rotation of the shaft 47
To remove the closed containers from the conveyor, a bar 211 moving transversely to the conveyor is mounted on the table so as to be able to slide (fig. 1, 2, 4 and 5), and provided with a head 212, this pusher is normally in place on one side of the conveyor and a container moves into a corresponding position when the conveyor stops (fig.2) and is actuated during transporter stops to remove the container from the transporter.
In order to actuate it, the pusher was connected by means of a connecting rod 213 to a lever 214 mounted to rotate on a support 215, the lever being provided with a roller engaged in a cam groove made in the disc 217 of tree 67
The apparatus is controlled by an electric motor connected to the shaft 67 by means of a chain 218 passing over a chain wheel, mounted on the motor shaft, and on a chain wheel fixed on a shaft mounted for turn square to the axis of the shaft 67 and connected to the shaft 67 by a worm and a helical wheel 220
In order to match the crushed end of the container with the jaws of the slides 106 applying the closure element, for example at B 'of fig.ll,

screws an adjustable head screw 221 into the front portion of column P and a similar adjustment member 222 is carried to adjust to member 221 by a plate 223 attached to and protruding downwardly from the ears 224 themselves protruding forward from the cantilevered portion 108 of column P; this plate is provided with an opening 'making it possible to follow the operations performed by the clamping jaws 110 and 110'
