<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Improvements to telephone systems ".
The present invention relates to telephone systems, and more particularly to those systems which use retro-finder type switches to connect a subscriber's calling line with a first digital switch. It is well known that, theoretically, the use of searcher switches for this purpose represents a considerable saving in view of the importance of the equipment required compared with the device by which a switch searches. choir progressing forward, also called line switch
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
primary is associated with each subscriber line.
A difficulty has arisen so far, however, that of establishing a finder switch of sufficient capacity to allow for the savings which are declining from the use of large groups, since with the use of the finder switches. known high speed, the time required to connect the line of a subscriber calling through a first digital switch after he has picked up his receiver tends to become excessive. The main object of the present invention is the establishment of an improved finder switch of great capacity, 100 or 200 lines for example, which will only require a reduced number of control relays and which will operate at great speed.
According to a feature of the invention, a two-way finder switch is established, in which the control magnets receive their service potential through the contact of a distributor.
According to a further feature of the invention in a two-way finder switch the two control magnets are arranged to be excited by current transmitted by self-interrupting contacts independently of trotters moved on panel contacts by the action the magnets correspond
Another particularity of the invention is that, in order to control the operation of a two-way finder switch, two relays are available, each of which is established with a view to being energized by two circuits.

different from which current is supplied at different stages of switch operation.
A better understanding of the invention will result from the following description of a preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawing. It is understood, however, that the device indicated and described is given by way of example only, and that various modifications could be made in the detail of the circuits without departing from the scope of the invention.
The seeker switch shown schematically in the drawing is supposed to cover 100 lines of aboriginals, the indication being made of the relevant equipment! to one of them. This finder is one of a number of similar switches serving this group of lines, the finders being intended to operate in turn under the control of the distributor comprising the wiper 22 and 23 and the electromagnet 25.
It will be assumed that the subscriber whose line is held not to conductors 1 and 2. picks up his receiver for the cer a call; a circuit is established, through the intermediary of the armatures 12 and 13 and their rest contacts, for the line relay 4 which, therefore, acts.

larmat re 35 it opens a point in the circuit of the decision maker 40, in the artura 36 it prepares a circuit by the lower winding of the relay 2b and in the armature 37 opens a point in the electro circuit of rotation 38. The earth for energizing relay 32 is also pr

When the varti trotter 21, which is the only one making contact at this time, meets the earth, for example on the contact 14, a circuit is established for the upper winding of the relay 2b and this relay is actuated accordingly.

As a result, the aid 38 acts, in the usual manner, to rotate the wipers in search of the test contact corresponding to a calling line of the chosen stage, the search movement now being controlled by the test wiper. 20.
The calling line, it will be noticed, can be chosen from the table of the 2J rub by the operation of the armature 6, whereby a connection to the battery of relatively low resistance is established through the relay winding 10. until the horn touch the /. When the lever 20 meets this contact or the contact of another calling ligie of the same floor, the following circuit is established: the battery, the relay 10, the contact pin and the armature b, the contact 17, @ lever 20 , the frame 27 and its contact pin, the- to the earth.
Relays 10 and top bearing of relay 52 / both operate in this circuit and the first at frames 12 and 13 116, to the calling line from its normal o @ terry and earth connections, and to frame 11 interposed resisted it. this 9 in its prepre circuit in order to signal the line o cuped for the other searcher switches. Relay 32 operates as previously described and comes effective to open the circuit of the electrostatic regulator and directly connect the conve cation conductors.
A circuit is then established for the line rail from the first wave cone selector to the seeker switch, which in turn actuates the associated trip relay. The. earth is then connected to the main tripping conductor, now

When relays 2b and 32 have both de-energized, a circuit is etched by the contacts out of number 39 for the trip magnet 40 and the switch returns to the normal state of the man. ra usual, while at the scite of the triggering of relay 10 all the equipment particalier at the 1-gen of the subscriber is restored to its normal state.
In the event that a call occurs while the line is busy, the earth is connected to conductor 3 by the connector in the usual way and a circuit is then established for relay 10. This acts as before and to the armatures. 12 and 13 disconnects the line relay 4 so as to prevent the setting in motion of a searcher when the subscriber answers the app.
It is preferable that the teniene contact of the vertical switchboard is permanently connected to the earth as indicated, so that if the researcher does not manage to meet a calling line at any level he will be stopped on the 101 floor and would then be on and rotate out of the panel to the 11 position in which it could be arranged to give a special alarm or trigger automatically.
This will be appreciated that a pager switch of this type may, this difficulty, be arranged to serve a group of 200 subscriber lines @ ,, which c

there was obviously an additional table and a set of additional levers, one more relay being necessary to switch from one set of fritters to another.
Devices of any known or suitable type can then be set up to perform simultaneous scanning on the soft arrays, and by this means the throughput of the switch is doubled through the use of an additional wire. relatively small. This device has the further advantage that the exploration time which may be of considerable importance is the same for u :. switch with a capacity of two hundred lines than for a year of 100 lines.
This time is reduced, according to the present invention, by arranging the magnets 30 and 38 so that they cut their own circuits which makes them likely to operate substantially faster than if they operate in conjunction. with a switch relay, and at the same time it saves the costs and space necessary for the assembly of this relay.
This self-switching device is made possible thanks to the windings of electromagnets specially designed to have a high resistance and by arranging so that the voltage necessary to actuate them is not picked up on the contacts traversed by the wiper. test, but comes from a local source, the scanning movement continuing until the magnet circuit is opened by the action of the corresponding test relay. This arrangement eliminates any risk of harmful sparks, due to the breaking of strong currents at the test contacts, which is one more reason for the use of an interuptor relay.
It will therefore be appreciated that, by means of
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
of this invention, the complexity, the price and the mounting space of a double-movement finder-scope switch are all reduced, as well as the useful value and the operational safety of such a switch are increased, and therefore as a result, it constituted a practical and satisfactory alternative to the use of individual switches for subscriber lines.
