<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Automatic steam boiler feeder
The invention relates to certain improvements made to the devices described in the main and addition patents, which make it possible to control the orifices for admitting steam and communicating with the open air by valves driven by the force of a counterweight moved by a lever controlled by a float.
The object of the invention is to increase the volume of water stored by the reservoir at each cycle and to reduce the volume of the motor float.
To this end, the invention provides for controlling the feeder by a float control system to which the invention also relates. On the lever controlled by the float, according to the invention, an element will act, the action of which will be added to the pressure of the liquid on the float.
This element can, according to the invention, be secured to the aforesaid lever, the ends of which are arranged on either side of the axis around which the latter support turns.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
carry on the one hand the float, on the other hand the element.
The invention further relates to an arrangement such that the lower level of the liquid reaches the lower face of the float when the latter occupies its lowest position and that the upper level of the liquid reaches the upper face of the float when the latter. -Here occupies its highest position.
For this purpose the aforesaid element occupies relative to the lever carrying the float an angular position such as for; lowest position of the float the moment of its weight with respect to the axis of oscillation is equal and opposite to the moment of the assembly formed by the lever and the float; this angular position is also such that for the highest position of the float, the moment due to the aforesaid element is substantially zero.
If the lever traverses an angle of approximately 45 on either side of the horizontal plane passing through the axis of oscillation, the invention consequently provides for joining the aforementioned element to the lever by means of an arm making an angle of about 135 with said lever.
The appended drawings represent by way of example and not by way of limitation an embodiment of the invention. This extends to the various original features included in the arrangement shown.

according to the improvement,.
The general arrangement of the feeder is the same as that shown in the drawing appended to the first patent of addition where the lever 6a, which traverses an angle of approximately 45 on either side of the horizontal plane passing through the axis oscillation 8, is close to its position at the lower end of travel and drives under the action of the float 3 the tilting counterweight 27a.
In the arrangement according to the invention part of the driving action is provided by means of an element such as 6k consisting of a spherical-shaped body secured to the lever 6a by means of an arm 6f forming an angle of about 135 with the said lever. This element 6k as well as the float 3 and the lever 6a are arranged on either side of the fixed axis 8.
The element 6k is arranged so that when the lever 6a occupies its lower limit position inclined by approximately 45 on the horizontal, the moment with respect to the axis 8 of the weight of this element 6k is equal and opposite to the moment of the assembly formed by the counterweight 27a and the float 3. On the contrary, for the highest position of the lever 6a, the moment due to the aforementioned element 6k will be substantially zero (see fig.3).
In the known float systems (fig. 2), the float 3 was half-submerged both in its lowest position and in its most washed out position, the difference in the upper and lower level of the liquid in the tank 2 was therefore equal to the vertical displacement of the float 3.
In the arrangement according to the invention, the float
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
3 is placed so that the level of. liquid reaches the lower face of the float when the latter has occupied its lowest position and the upper level of the liquid reaches the upper face of the float when the latter occupies its highest position. Under these conditions the difference in level of the liquid in the tank is equal to the sum of the vertical displacement of the float 3 and the height of this float 3. It resulted from this arrangement that for the same section of the tank 2, the volume of liquid stored in each cycle by tank 2 will be increased.
The operation of the device is carried out as follows: a few moments after the lever
6a and the float 3 have reached their lowest position, the steam inlet valve 20 is closed and the communication valve with the free air is opened by means of the pivoting lever 13b.
At this moment the liquid flows into the tank and moves the float 3 which is further driven by the weight of the element 6k.-When the liquid has reached the upper level in the tank, the float 3, which has undergone the same displacement, resulted in the lever 3a and counterweight 27a system; this counterweight, driven by the displacement of its center of gravity, will describe a rotation of approximately 45 before coming to actuate one of the cams 20k producing the opening of the steam inlet valve 20.
This actuation will occur during an additional displacement of 45. As soon as this valve is opened, the pressure will increase in tank 2 and will deliver the liquid to the boiler via pipe 2s.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
As soon as the level drops in tank 2, the system described above is pulled in the opposite direction by the weight of float 3.
