<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Method of constituting and using photographic images for fixed or cinematographic color projections
We know that, in a darkroom of photography, if we interpose a priome in the trajectory of a light ray, the different refrangibility of the colors of which the ray is composed. sunlight will produce a dispersion such that the image, on the receiver screen, will form a colored band comprising red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
If, in front of the objective, we present any object suitably lit, by the interposition of the prism in the dark room, we will see the red parts of the object projected on the, red band from earlier, the orange parts. , on the orange band and so on, depending on the various colors composing the image of the object, that is to say that this image will be completely distorted.
It is on this principle that is based 7.'invention which is the subject of the present patent, and which can be divided into two parts; one comprising the production of photo-

graphics, the second how to use them
Fig, 1 of the attached drawings shows schematically the device for obtaining the plates :: phctagre- phiques.
Fig. also shows schematically the device for the./. projection of these images.
Let A be the object to be reproduced and which is presented in front of the objective B of a photographic camera. Behind 5 and at a distance set to have a clear image of the object, we place a camera C with combined lenses @ so that the rays coming out from it are parallel so that the image arrives in the same conditions. , on the prism
Between C and D is placed an apparatus which we will call a color filter E, intended to allow only the seven fundamental colors mentioned above to pass through, and retaining the intermediate colors existing between them.
It is the image so infiltrated which passes through the socket
D; by the different degree of refrangibility for each color, the image obtained on a screen F will be completely distorted and the various elements of the object represented will be, according to their color, dispersed on the various bands corresponding to the colors represented.
The screen F is replaced by a sensitive photographic plate, on which a negative reproduction (black and white) of the distorted image is obtained.
Then, by known photographic processes, a positive reproduction of this distorted image is produced, and it is this which should be used in the prejection apparatus.
We thus arrive at the second phase of the operations which constitute the invention.
In the projection apparatus, the light source being at 1 ;, the decomposed positive image mentioned above is placed in N, and it should have a screen 0 composed of 7 bands of main colors corresponding to the colors obtained by
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the prism of the first operation and each having the width of the band of the distorted image *
It thus happens that, leaving screen 0, it will be the same image, which was obtained on screen F of FIG. 1, in the first operation, which will appear in front of the prism P; this must, necessarily, have exactly the same refrangibility coefficient as the prism T of the first operation.
It will follow that, as a result of this refrangibility, the light rays coming from these different colored bands will converge towards a point Q where they will be superimposed to reconstitute the primitive image. It is this reconstituted image that we present to the magnifying lens R to project it onto the screen S in view of the public.
It goes without saying that these operations of constituting distorted images, as is said with regard to FIG. 1 and use of these images for projection as described in connection with FIG. 2 can be made for fixed projections or for cinematographic projections.
CLAIMS.
1 A method of constituting images for obtaining color projections consisting essentially in interpo- sing, in the field of light rays of a photographic darkroom, a prism such as by the different refrangibility of the fundamental colors, there will be dispersion of the representation of these on a reception screen thus producing a decomposed image. - b) reproducing this decomposed image negatively, c then making a positive reproduction for use in the projection apparatus.
