<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
lorsque le cadre est tiré dans l'eau , la pression de l'eau con- tre les palettes ou ailettes 10 amène le cadre 8 à la surface ou près de la surface de l'eau ;
Le cadre 8 est muni des accessoires habituels tels que chaînes ou fers d'un côté pour assembler le câble de halage 12; les cordages de filet 13 peuvent être fixés à l'autre côté ou à l'autre bout, de toute manière à l'arrière du cadre 8. Pour don- ner à la gueule du filet des profondeurs variables , on a fixé sur le fond ou sur une autre partie du cadre un prolongement ac- cessoire qui porte l'une des cordes du filet tandis que l'autre corde est attachée près du sommet du cadre; le prolongement peut être formé de deux éléments articulés 14,15 qui pivotent l'un sur l'autre ;

"improvements to trawler fishing gear" current fishing gear can only be used for deep water fishing. the object of the invention is to construct a fishing gear, especially the frame and in some cases also the net for fishing on the surface or near the surface of the water.
For this purpose, the frame is constructed with or provided with organs, enabling it to be held at or near the surface of the water, either by itself or as a result of being pulled through the water; it is also possible to provide devices on or with the net to achieve the same result with the preceding devices.

teeth; then, we can build the frame and the net or foresee devices on them thanks to which we can give the mouth of the net different depths according to the place of the water where the fish is, place which can be spotted by the fisherman before or during fishing.
The invention will be better understood from the following description given with the aid of examples represented in the appended drawings where: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a gear with an open mouth for fishing surface; fig. 2 is a perspective view of a machine with a deeper mouth than in FIG. 1 for fishing in deeper water as well as on the surface; FIG. 3 is a side view and FIG. 4 is an end view of a frame provided with pallets or fins; FIG. 5 is an end view of a frame provided with adjustable articulated fins; fig.6 is a side view of the frame carrying a float and a curved extension at the top; Fig.7 is an end view of the upper part of Fig.6.
The invention can be carried out in several different ways.
As regards the frame 8, its upper part can carry one or more floats 9, fixed, of adjustable height from the front or removable, which makes it possible to maintain the frame exactly below or at the required depth below the height. area ; instead of making use of one or more floats or in addition to them, one can use pallets or angle fins 10 on one or both sides, fixed or adjustable in face height on frame 8. see fig. 3, 4, near the top and facing outward or otherwise, so that
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
when the frame is pulled into the water, the pressure of the water against the vanes or fins 10 brings the frame 8 to or near the surface of the water;
these fins or pallets 10 can be hinged to the frame 8 and adjusted by a threaded sleeve 10a with opposing steps which brings them together (fig.5); they can also be fixed on angles or be able to fold up for ease of storage; the outer edge of these pallets or fins may be curved inwardly towards the rear; instead of or in combination with vanes or fins 10, use can be made of a protruding curved piece 11, fig.6 and 7 at the upper rear edge with or without float 9 at the front; the curved part 11 protrudes from the part 8 on either side at its upper part; it can be set to determine how deep the frame should be brought below water level when in use.
The frame 8 is provided with the usual accessories such as chains or irons on one side for assembling the hauling cable 12; the net ropes 13 can be attached to the other side or to the other end, in any case to the rear of the frame 8. To give the mouth of the net varying depths, we have fixed on the bottom or on another part of the frame an accessory extension which carries one of the strings of the net while the other string is tied near the top of the frame; the extension can be formed of two articulated elements 14,15 which pivot on one another;
while the element 14 pivots at one end on the lower or posterior edge of the frame or on a strip 16 which from the other element 15 pivots or is screwed onto the other end of the element 14 and the other leaves on a strip 17 starting from the face of the frame; a solid support is thus formed, the element 14 acting as an extension directed downwards.
The mouth of the net 18 is oblong in the open position; it carries a cord or cable 19 provided on its perimeter with rings 20, loops, eyelets or devices with strong parts.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
mant angle; to which the net ropes of the frames can be attached and also other intermediate rings, loops or eyelets; however the net 18 can be attached directly to the frame.
The normal depth of the net in the open position is approximately equal to the depth of the frames with the net lines attached to the corners as shown in fig.l; the frames always move forward in use, the mouth of the net always being kept fully open; when we want to give the net a greater depth, we leave the ropes of the top 13 on the frames 8 in their normal position and we tie the other ends to the auxiliary loops 21 of the net 18, while we tie the ropes from the bottom of the net in the center, at another point or at one end of the extensions
14 of 8 frames; the other end is attached to the rings, loops or auxiliary eyelets 21; in this way, the mouth of the net is deeper, but not as wide, as shown in fig.
2: This is how a net with a mouth width of 60 feet by a depth of 5 feet can be transformed into a net 20 feet wide by 13 feet deep.
In some cases, floats 22 may be provided along the upper edge of the mouth of the net as usual and also along the middle part of the top of the net; thus au'11 is shown in FIG. 1; behind and near the end of the net at the top a large float 23 or a number of smaller floats can be attached to help L keep the body and end of the net level with the mouth or slightly below.
