<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Double acting pump
The present invention relates to a simple, robust and compact double-acting piston pump, in which the number of parts subject to wear is reduced to a minimum.
This pump comprises a double piston actuated directly by a rotary cam placed between two cylinders of the same axis in which the ends of this double piston move in an alternating movement. These cylinders are mounted in a pump body provided with bearings for the cam control shaft, and they are connected to suction and discharge pipes by a set of suitable valves.
The ends of the double piston surround the rotary cam and carry rolling rollers intended to remain constantly in contact with this cam, the profile of which is calibrated for this purpose.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This arrangement eliminates the need for connecting rods, cranks and other parts that wear quickly, and to obtain a double-acting pump in which the inside of the cylinders is protected from soiling coming from the lubrication, which makes it particularly suitable for pumping liquids intended for food.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a view of the pump in vertical section and
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view thereof.
The pump shown comprises a cast iron pump body formed by a cylindrical drum 1 resting on a base 2 and provided on each side with a cylindrical sleeve 3. In these sleeves 3, 3 are inserted cylinders 4,4. fixed by means of bolts 5, 5 to their respective sleeves and connected by couplings 6, 6 to valve boxes 7, 7 to which two pipes 8 and 9 lead respectively for the suction and delivery of the liquid .
The middle part of the pump is occupied by a double piston 10, the ends of which each penetrate into one of the cylinders 4,4 and are provided with seals 11, 11. This piston 10 carries two rollers 12, 12 mounted. on axes 13,13 in 14,14 cavities which are hollowed out inside its ends. These are connected together by a flange 15 placed on one side of the piston only, so as to leave room for a cam 16 between the two rollers 12, 12.
The cam 16, which is intended to impart to the piston 10 a reciprocating movement in the cylinders 4, 4 by acting on the rollers 12, 12, is wedged on a transverse control shaft 17 actuated in any suitable manner.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
This shaft 17 passes through a longitudinal groove 15 'of the flange 15 and is supported in bearings 18,18 at the center of two covers 19,19' closing on each side the drum 1 of the pump body.
As shown in Fig. 1, the profile of the cam 16 is chosen so that during a complete revolution, this cam remains constantly in contact with the two rollers 12, 12 'and gives the piston 10, through them, an alternating movement of appropriate amplitude.
The valves housed in the valve boxes 7,7 can be of any suitable type and put one of the cylinders 11 in communication with the suction line 8 while the other cylinder 11 communicates with the delivery line. element 9, and vice versa.
Since all the parts of the pump which require lubrication are located in the middle of the pump in the drum 1, there is no danger that the liquids sucked into the cylinders 11, 11 are contaminated by the lubricating oil. . On the other hand, the parts of the pump, cylinders, piston, valves, fittings and pipes which come into contact with the pumped liquids can be made of bronze, which keeps them free from oxidation. For these reasons, the pump according to the invention is suitable for pumping liquids intended for serving drinks and particularly for being attached to a machine for making carbonated drinks.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the details of execution described and shown and these could be modified without departing from its scope.
