<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
L'avancement du filet 'de matière plastique d'un bout à l'autre de la machine peut être soit intermittent,soit conti- nu ; ainsi,dans l'exemple d'exécution représenté par les des- sins,il a lieu par intermittences. Les deux arbres 12 et 12a sont animés d'un mouvement rotatoire continu,comme on l'a dé- crit précédemment ;

"Apparatus for dividing a net of plastic material into shelves or blocks."
The present invention relates to an apparatus. used to divide a sausage or net of plastic material into separate shelves of equal size; it is especially applicable to the division of sweet dough to form candies, such as, for example, caramels to be wrapped afterwards of paper or tin foil.
According to this invention, the dough net undergoes cutting, multiple and with progressive depth during which a series of incisions are made in it by the blades with increasing depth as they succeed one another. 'other, in the sense that each incision,. slashes the dough deeper than that of the previous blade as it goes from one end of the machine to the other.
The cutting mechanism is therefore constituted
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
by a series of blades / mounted on the underside of a horizontal bar, these blades descending from the bar to a depth which increases from the end at which the dough is fed to the 'end of the debi-i bar these articles, so that, from the blades planted at the fed end to those planted at the debiteur end, the cutting edges of said blades descend more and more close, one after the other, of an endless belt on which we bring the plastic net to be divided.
As a further alternative, this gradual increase in depth of the blades can be achieved by resorting to suitable adjustment of the inclination of the bar, if the latter has its blades all exceeding by the same amount.
The blade-holder bar is made to take a vertical movement in order to lower the blades on the plastic net and it is also given a horizontal movement, in order to follow the movement of this net to be divided into, - parts.
As for the endless belt, it rests, by its lower face on a suitable bearing surface installed under the belt so that the net undergoing the cutting finds a support in antagonism to the thrust of the blades when it advances, while ensubitating. cutting at increasing depth. When the cutter bar has made a complete forward stroke with the dough net and with the endless belt or belt, the blades are withdrawn from this net, which is then prevented from rising with it, because it is retained by fingers projecting above each of the partially formed shelves and also advancing with the plastic material; these fingers which are fixed between the blades can be, with advantage, supported on a chain, which cooperates with the remainder of the mechanism.
The bar continues to go up until the moment when the blades which it carries have completely come out of the dough to then accomplish a recoil movement and come down again, all these blades entering the divisions - an interval further from the end. where 1 Food takes place. -Then, these blades penetrate into
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
divisions that are and / e cut to a depth less than.
the previous cutting pass, and as the bar advances they cut deeper into the divisions, which completely plugs the forwardmost shelf and increases the depth of the incisions between the partially sliced shelves which. ' follow on from this extreme table.
The progressive progress of the strand or net of dough in the machine can be either continuous or intermittent, which is a matter of the arrangement of the mechanism producing the relative advancement of the bearing surface, of the endless belt and of the belt. blade holder as well as the mechanism for advancing the plastic net.
In the accompanying drawings, we have. shown a machine of which Figure 1 gives a view. in elevation while, figure 2 gives the corresponding plan view
The plastic net to be split is placed on a table 1, then it is stretched by hand so as to give it an elongated cable shape and it is passed between the feed rollers 2 and 2a which roll and flatten the dough so as to form a kind of sausage having the desired cross-section, which usually will be rectangular. The front end of the belt then passes to an endless belt or belt 3 carried on rollers 4.
Above band 3 and parallel to it, there is an endless chain'5 carried by (chain rollers 6 and on this chain protrude a succession of fingers directed laterally (see fig. '2)
Above the endless strip 3 carrying the strip of material, there is a bar 8, on the underside of which protrudes a series of blades 9, each of which descends by a quantity more larger than the previous one as they move away from the end of the machine where the feed is operated.
This bar 8 is supported by means of connecting rods 10 whose upper ends are attached to crank arms 11, wedged on shafts 12 and 12a, The latter
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
are forced to turn in the same direction by the main control shaft 13, and by means of the gear wheels 14,14a 14b and 12b clamped on the shaft 12, the intermediate gear 15 and the gear wheel 12c wedged on the shaft 12a, the play 'of parts having the effect of raising and lowering the bar 8. The latter receives a horizontal reciprocating movement. by means of a cam 16 mounted on 1 '; shaft 12a and against which a flat ball 17, which is carried by a tilting lever 18, is kept in contact by the thrust of a spring 18a.
The lower end of lever 18 is attached to one of the ends of a rod 19, the other end of which is pivotably attached to bar 8,
As for the fingers 7 protruding from the chain 5, they are arranged so as to emerge, under said bar, between each pair of the blades 9.
The belt-band 3 bears, in antagonism with the thrust exerted during the cutting by the blades 9, on a bearing surface 20 mounted on anti-friction rollers 21, and it is animated with a forward and backward movement by the links 22 pivotally attached to the bearing surface 20, as well as to the lower end of the lever 18.
The advancement of the plastic net from one end of the machine to the other can be either intermittent or continuous; thus, in the exemplary embodiment represented by the drawings, it takes place intermittently. The two shafts 12 and 12a are driven in a continuous rotary movement, as described previously;
they raise and lower the bar 8, while the cam 16 causes the lever 18 to swing at times. desired in order to transmit to the blade bar 8 through the rod 19 a back and forth in the longitudinal direction and a / movement similar to the bearing surface 20 which is placed under the belt conveyor 3, through the intermediary of the link 22, while the chain 5, the belt 3 and the dough feed rollers 2 and 2a are driven by a movement.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
step by step by means of a set of gears under the command and control of a device 23 which is more or less analogous to a Gendre stop mechanism, fixed on a shaft 6a and action-,
born by an arm 24 wedged on the shaft 12a, which gives uniformity of speed by the action of the set of gears to all the parts which must be animated by said movement step by step. Instead of being actuated by a set of gears, the belt 3 could also be pulled forward by the horizontal movement of the blades 9, this strip 3 being clamped between the net of plastic substance and the support 20 during the pass of cutting *
The forward horizontal stroke length transmitted to the bar 8 which carries the blades 9 is equal to the advancement of the material net as well as to the forward displacement of the bearing surface 20 and to the cross-movement of the chain 5. As for the return movement of this bearing surface 20, it takes place, while the blades are raised to leave the net of material.
When the blades are lowered, they correspond with the divisions already partially cut, and the distance existing between the blades corresponds to the advancement, so that with each lowering of the bar and the blades, they penetrate exactly in the divisions while progressing one step closer to the end of the machine where the feeding takes place. At each of the intermittent strokes of the bar, there is a tablet completely split from the dough net - and passed directly to the mechanism. wrapping, which acts in conjunction with the present machine but, of course, is not an integral part of the invention.
