<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

SHUTTER DEVICE AND SOCKET FOR SUCH A DEVICE
The present invention relates to a shutter device intended for closing a bay or other opening, the shutter having flexible lateral edges comprising a substantially continuous bead moving in guide tracks.
According to the prior art, the beads known hitherto are not suitable for forming the lateral edges of a flap intended to move in guide paths at sufficiently high speeds without obstructions occurring.
This has led to the use, for the lateral edges of these flaps, of a succession of small hard plastic blocks articulated relative to each other.
This solution is, however, very expensive, in particular by the fact that it requires a high labor force and that these small blocks are liable to deteriorate easily when, by accident, the lateral edges are released from their guide paths. and must be entered again in these.
One of the essential aims of the present invention is to give an effective solution to this kind of problem by proposing a continuous bead making it possible to avoid any kind of obstructions, which can, moreover, be manufactured on an industrial scale in a automatic and continuous, requiring practically no labor.
To this end, according to the invention, the lateral edges of the shutter are essentially constituted by a bead having a core, possibly surrounded by a reinforcing sheath, covered by a sliding means.
Advantageously, the core comprises a porous material which is impregnated with a slip agent, such as polytetrafluoroethylene.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the core is made of polyurethane and is covered by a film of a slip agent applied, for example, by spraying.
The invention also relates to a bead which can be used in a shutter device the lateral edges of which move in guide tracks and of which mention was made in the claims.
Other details and particularity of the invention will emerge from the description given below with reference to the attached drawings, by way of nonlimiting examples, of some particular embodiments of a bead, according to the invention, intended for be applied in a shutter device.
Figure 1 is a schematic front view of a bead according to a first embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a schematic view of a section along line II-II of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a schematic view of a section similar to that of Figure 2 of a second embodiment of a bead according to the invention.
Figure 4 is a schematic sectional representation of a third embodiment of the invention.
Figure 5 is a schematic side view of a detail of the drive means of a flap according to this third embodiment.
In the various figures, the same reference numbers refer to identical or analogous elements.
The present invention relates both to a particular bead having a core covered by a sliding agent and to a shutter device, the lateral edges of which are provided with such a particular bead which moves in guide paths.
According to a first embodiment of the invention, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the bead comprises a core 1 made up of flexible textile yarns 2, extending side by side substantially in the direction of the length of the bead, and a flexible woven envelope 3 surrounding these textile yarns 2.
This core 1, generally having a diameter of the order of 3 to 8 mm and preferably of the order of 6 mm, is surrounded by a reinforcing sheath 4
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
having a reduced coefficient of friction. This sheath 4 is for example made of polyamide.
Finally, if necessary, a film 9 of polytetrafluoroethylene, known under the commercial name of "Teflon", can be applied by spraying on this sheath 4 to further reduce the coefficient of friction of the surface of the bead when the latter has to move in guideways, not shown in the figures.
The bead is provided with a sliding band 5 laterally widened by a fixing band 6 extending laterally over substantially the entire length of the bead, along a plane 7 passing through the axis 8 of the latter.
The sliding strip 5 is formed by a fabric, for example, of polyamide which extends around the core 1, forming a sheath for the latter.
This sliding strip 5, the weaving of which is tighter than that of the sheath 4, is preferably soaked with polytetrafluoroethylene applied by spraying.
The fixing strip 6 is generally made of a thermoplastic material which can be welded to a lateral zone of the flap 16 so that the bead can form a projecting edge lateral to the flap 16.
FIG. 3 represents a second embodiment of the bead according to the invention which differs from the previous embodiment in that the core 1 is entirely made of flexible polyurethane of which at least the outer layer is porous.
As in the previous embodiment, a sliding strip 5 widened by a fixing strip 6 extends laterally over the entire length of the bead. These bands are, like the core 1, made of polyurethane, forming a body with the core. This core, as well as the sliding strip 5, is thermally impregnated superficially with polytetrafluoroethylene, as indicated by the reference 9 in FIG. 3.
The thickness of the polytetrafluoroethylene film thus formed is generally of the order of 20 to 60 microns and preferably of the order of 40 microns.
The fixing strip 6, which is integral with the sliding strip 5, is not impregnated with polytetrafluoroethylene so as to allow the lateral zone of the flap 16 to be attached to it.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Figure 4 relates to a third embodiment of the invention and is a section perpendicular to the axis of a guide path.
This embodiment differs essentially from the second embodiment in that in this the bead is provided with a drive strip 10 extending in the extension of the sliding strip 5 and the strip fixing 6 on the diametrically opposite side relative to the bead.
The drive belt has, in this embodiment, a toothed belt 11 integral with the drive belt 10 and cooperating with drive means.
In order to make the drive band 10, and in particular the toothed belt 11, relatively incompressible in its longitudinal direction and to ensure that it has very limited plasticity, the drive band 10 is provided with an internal frame. 17. This reinforcement 17 comprises, for example, fibers, in particular glass fibers or aramid fibers, such as for example kevlar, extending along the length of the drive strip 10.
The assembly formed by the core 1 of the bead, the sliding strip 5, the fixing strip 6 and the drive strip 10 with the belt 11 is formed in one piece and is made of polyurethane.
This assembly, with the exception of the fixing strip 6, is impregnated and covered with a film 9 of polytetrafluoroethylene.
The drive belt 10 moves with the bead inside a guide path 12.
The drive means are arranged near the upper end of the drive path and comprise a toothed wheel 13, as shown in FIG. 5, rotating around a horizontal axis 14 parallel to the plane of the flap 16.
A deflector 15, having the shape of an arc of a circle, coaxial with the toothed wheel 13, extends above the guide tracks, not shown in FIG. 5, in the extension of the latter.
The inner face of this deflector 15 is also covered with a polytetrafluoroethylene film 9.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
According to the invention, it has been found that by the application of polytetrafluoroethylene thermally on 'sliding surfaces with open pores, polytetrafluoroethylene penetrates into these pores to a certain depth.
When the polytetrafluoroethylene film wears on these surfaces, it is constantly renewed by a permanent emigration of polytetrafluoroethylene contained in these pores towards these surfaces.
It is understood that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying drawings, but that many other variants can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Thus, it is possible to use other slip agents than polytetrafluoroethylene.
Furthermore, in certain cases, a sheath formed from woven threads which have been previously impregnated with a slip agent or which consist essentially of monofilaments containing or consisting of the slip agent can be provided on the core.
