DESCRIPTION CORDE D'ACIER ET PROCEDE DE FABRICATION D'UNE TELLE CORDE
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

DESCRIPTION STEEL ROPE AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SUCH A ROPE
The present invention relates to a steel cord, which can advantageously be used in the tire manufacturing industry, as well as to a method of manufacturing such a cord, the reels for unwinding the wires being placed inside. a double-wire cabling machine and the finished rope being wound up inside the machine.
By the publication EP-PS 0 136 964, an invention is known by which it can be attempted to manufacture, using a special device for guiding the wires, in a double-wire cabling machine, steel rope such as that which can normally only be manufactured by the simple wiring process.
In this case, it is in the region of the rollers 44 and 46 that the strand of the unwinding reels 48 and 50 is wired with the single-strand strand of the reels 52 and 54.
The lengths of the different wires cabled at this point are exactly the lengths of the wires of the finished rope.
During the continuation of the wiring, the second wiring takes place for the strand formed from the wires of the unwinding reels 52 and 54, and the strand of the reels 48 and 50 is turned outside so that the wiring is completed.
However, in this case, after leaving the wiring machine, the completed rope contains different lengths of wire for the different strands, that is to say that the rope produced by this process is not straight and that Due to
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
ulterior. In addition, since the lengths of the strands it contains are not equal, the rope does not have the desired resistance.
DE-OS 30 42 031 describes a single-strand wire cable which theoretically represents the ideally void-free rope.
In practice, the wire cable cannot be manufactured in this form, for the reason that it would be manufactured in a form which cannot be maintained during winding and during its subsequent treatment.
This is due to the presence of the three core wires located in parallel, which take an unstable position 1 t relative to one another.
When the group of core wires is surrounded by a helical winding, that is to say during the subsequent operations, forces are manifested which determine the tendency of the group of core wires to move to a position unstable, so that in the end a cord is produced with voids which are not filled with rubber and in which, in the event of damage to the tire, adhesion losses caused by the corrosion.
The cord manufactured in the manner indicated in the utility model DE-GM 84 14 361. 4 is obtained by the simple wiring method and it corresponds to the current state of the art.
Its production is however not very productive.
In addition, only the rope made as indicated in claim 2 meets the requirement for voids.
With regard to the rope produced as indicated in claim 3 and in claim 4, there is in each case, in the filament group 1, a vacuum which is not filled with rubber and in which, in in the event of damage to the tire, there will already be, as with the cable mentioned above, loss of grip caused by corrosion.

In publication DE-OS 26 19 086, a device and a method for manufacturing the steel cord of the composition n + 1 are described.
This composition can be obtained, after a slight modification, in any normal fast wiring machine (simple wiring). The drawbacks of the steel cords of such a composition correspond to the drawbacks which have already been mentioned with regard to the rope produced as indicated in the utility model DE-GM 84 14 361.4.
The object of the present invention is to make it possible to manufacture with high productivity, high-quality steel cord, which is in particular anti-rotation and free of voids.
This invention aims to develop an anti-rotation, void-free steel cord, as well as a method of manufacturing such a cord according to which highly productive wiring is used by double cabling.
The object which has just been stated is achieved according to the present invention by the fact that the steel cord is formed from a group of wires comprising two wires which are not wired, that is to say not stranded, and a group of wires comprising two chablé wires, that is to say strands, according to the principle of double wiring, which surrounds the first group of wires, on which it turns in a helix, and which moreover causes it to flex regularly with the length of the helical winding pitch, the length of the wiring pitch of the second group of wires cited being less than the length of the helical winding pitch and the composition of the steel cord thus allowing the penetration of the rubber, all parts in this steel cord, during calendering.
The method of manufacturing the steel cord which is the subject of the present invention is a method according to which the various wires intended to compose the cord are, in a manner known per se, drawn from the four reels of unwinding placed one at a time. following each other in the chassis
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
drum of a wiring machine Known double wiring.
Two threads unwound from two of the above-mentioned unwinding reels in the direction opposite to the direction of the exit of the rope are guided, through a roller device, into the hollow shaft of the rotor part provided in opposition to the direction of the out of the rope. The first wiring, that is to say the first stranding, of the two wires takes place on the path between the roller device and a return roller provided in the hollow shaft. The pre-wired wires are then guided, in the direction of the exit of the steel cord, passing through trunks of guide cone and through wire guide passages towards the wiring point. It is on this path that the second wiring, that is to say the second stranding, of the two wires takes place.
The threads unwound from the two other unwinding coils, in the direction of the exit of the steel cord, are guided, not wired, that is to say not stranded, passing through a roller device, in the hollow shaft of the rotor part mounted on the side of the rope outlet and then towards the wiring point.
At the wiring point, the group of cabled, i.e. stranded, wires and the group of non-cabled, i.e., non-stranded, wires are wired together by helical winding, such that the wires not wired or not stranded are bent in successive turns responding to the length of the helical winding pitch and that the length of the wiring pitch of the group of cabled wires is less than the length of the helical winding pitch.
The finished steel cord is then guided to the exit of the machine.
A more detailed explanation of the present invention will be given below by describing an embodiment thereof illustrated by the drawings appended to this specification. In these drawings, Figure 1 shows a steel cord made
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
according to this invention; Figure 2 a sectional view of the steel cord shown in Figure 1, and Figure 3 shows a machine & wire double wiring for the application of the method of the present invention.
The steel cord, designated by the reference number 1, represented by Figure 1 and Figure 2 of
EMI5.1
attached drawings is formed of a group 2 of two wires 3 not wired, that is to say not twisted, and of a group 4 of two wires 5 cables, that is to say strands, according to the principle of double wiring, the group of wires 4 surrounding the group of wires 2, on which it turns in a helix, and causing it to flex in successive turns responding to its length of wiring step, the length of the wiring step of group of wires 4, being less than the length of the helical winding pitch and the composition of the steel cord 1 thus permitting the penetration of the rubber, from all sides, into the cord, during calendering.
As indicated by the representation of FIG. 3 of the appended drawings, the various wires 3 and 5 used for the manufacture of the steel cord 1 are, in a manner known per se, drawn from the four unwinding coils 7, which are placed one after the other in the frame of the drum of the double-wire cabling machine, designated by the reference number 6.
Two wires 5, unwinding from two of the coils 7, are guided, in the opposite direction to that of the exit of the rope, passing through a roller device 8, in the hollow shaft 9 of the rotor part 10, which is mounted in opposition to the direction of the exit of the steel cord. The first wiring, that is to say the first stranding, of the two wires 5 takes place on the path between the roller device 8 and a return roller 11 mounted in the hollow shaft 9.
The wires 5, pre-wired, are then guided, in
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the direction of the exit of the steel cord, passing over trunks of guide cone 12 and in guide passages 13, towards the wiring point 14. On this path takes place the second wiring, That is to say the second stranding.
The wires 3, which are unwound from the other two unwinding coils 7, in the direction of the exit of the steel cord, are guided, not wired, that is to say not stranded, passing through a device for rollers 15, in the hollow shaft 16 of the rotor part 17, mounted on the exit side of the steel cord, and then towards the wiring point 14.
EMI6.1
At wiring point 14, group 4 of wires 5, wired, that is to say stranded, and group 2 of wires 3, not wired, that is to say stranded, are wired together by winding helically, so that the wires 3, not wired or not stranded, are bent in successive turns responding to the length of the helical winding pitch and that the length of the wiring pitch of the group of cabled wires 5 is less than the length of the helical winding pitch.
The finished steel cord 1 is then guided to the outlet of the machine.
The advantages provided by the present invention reside in that, as a high-efficiency method of wiring by double wiring, it is possible to manufacture a steel cord 1, which is anti-rotation and free of voids, to obtain thus a high production yield and ensuring penetration of rubber, from all sides, into the steel cord, during calendering. On the other hand, all the wires 3 and 5 that comprise the finished steel cord 1 are of the same length, so that this steel cord is straight and that it can therefore be subjected to further processing.
