Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT EASY MITRE JIG The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: 0 0 00 0 0 0 Easy Mitre Jig This invention relates to improvements in the methods used to cut mitres.
When using other mitre jigs currently on the market, the saw teeth come into contact with the saw guide slots, which are permanent features of a conventional mitre jig, eventually enlarging the saw guide slots and making the mitre cut inaccurate.
These problems are overcome by my invention, which provides for an improved mitre jig comprising two adjustable saw guides clamped securely by wingnuts and bolts through elongated slots in the holding jig and the mitre guides to enable the saw to be moved backwards and forwards without any lateral movements thereby ensuring the guide is always accurate with each subsequent mitre.
Additional pairs of saw guides can be made with other complementary angles to cut different mitres, as used in clockface making etc.
The jig can be made from a variety of suitable materials including wood, metal, wood and metal (combined) or plastic, with wood being the preferred material.
ooo To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing (Fig. 1) which shows an example of the invention.
ooo.oi It can be seen that the design of the jig enables it to be clamped securely in any woodworking vice or clamp leaving hands free for holding the moulding and saw with either hand.
In operation, one mitre cut is completed. The guides are then reversed by undoing the wingnuts and bolts, turning the saw guides 180 degrees, retightening the wingnuts and bolts to cut the reverse mitre. This only takes a few seconds.
Claims (3)
1. An improved mitre jig device comprising two adjustable saw guides which are clamped securely by wingnuts and bolts through elongated slots in the holding jig and the mitre guides to enable the saw to be moved backwards and forwards without any lateral movements thereby ensuring the guide is always accurate with each subsequent mitre.
2. The mitre jig device of Claim 1 wherein the adjustable saw guides are replaced by saw guides with different angles.
3. An improvement to mitre jigs substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing. William Charles Chadwick Date: 7 *a a a a a a i 1".
