Abstract
A process is disclosed for incinerating sewage sludge (1). Sewage sludge is dried by a drier (30) heated by means of a heat transfer medium, then incinerated in a furnace, preferably a cycloid furnace. The heat transfer medium is heated during the incineration process and the furnace smoke gas is dedusted and purified. In order to discharge non-contaminated solids, a basic additive (9a, 9b) is fed to the furnace, the smoke gas is subjected to a first dedusting (17) and cooling (13) process, and its heat is again removed by cooling it down to a lower temperature higher than the limit cooling temperature of the smoke gas. Another basic additive (22) is then added to the smoke gas before the smoke gas is dedusted (23) in a filter. The first dedusting process (17) is carried out before heat is removed for drying the sewage sludge.
