Description
HOUSEHOLD WASTE PROCESSING INDUSTRIAL FACILITY AND METHOD The object of this invention is a household waste processing method and industrial facility to implement said process for the purpose of recycling and/or obtaining an aggregate from waste.
Household waste and refuse generally comprises the following types of matter: 25% organic matter: vegetables, fruit, cooking refuse, etc., 50% recyclable matter: paper, cardboard, rags, leather, plastic, etc., inert matter 25%: stone, glass, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, ceramics, etc.
Efforts have been made for a long time to find a way of processing the above waste and refuse.
The waste processing solutions used at the present moment in time are the following: dumping, which involves all the well known pollution hazards, incineration, with or without energy recovery.
Extensive atmospheric pollution is caused in the smoke and fumes are not correctly purified.
This requires heavy investment, high operating energy consumption.

K\ ,lAC Although a theoretical advantage exists in recovering energy in the second case, an infrastructure for immediately distributing this energy is required, eg. for urban heating. This solution is only feasible in cold countries with refuse rich in combustible matter.
A third solution consists in producing compost from household waste.
This technology is now well known and provides interesting results.
However, this technique only uses part of the waste matter in household refuse.
Waste must therefore be handled and sorted under particularly offensive working conditions for both personnel and the environment and are productive of unpleasant effects, particularly smells.
Furthermore, the compost obtained is extremely humid which prevents it from being transported for long distances and, when used in agriculture, is not satisfactory for users due to its' wetness and unpleasant effects.
This invention aims at implementing a waste processing method involving a minimum amount of unpleasantness and harmful effects, smells and dirt for personnel in charge of the processing, and which produces, after sorting the waste, a dry substance, preferably granular which can be easily stored, transported and spread as fertilizer.
The process as per the household waste processing invention is specific in that it comprises the following successive phases: a) reception, storage, removal from bags if required, and dry screening, TrADUCIION CERTIFItE COHFORMi A L'ORIAL C. This description is given as an example and is therefore non-restrictive. It is illustrated by the drawing included hereafter: The single drawing shows the layout of a household waste processing facility implementing the process as per the invention.
Tank 1 is equipped with a standard ventilation unit and standard waste wetting system.
Tank 1 can be equipped with a draining system.
The tank comprises a standard screw-type or belt conveyor for the purpose of feeding a hopper 2.
Conveyor throughput is adjusted according to need.
The hopper 2 feeds a bag removal device 3 with preferably a built-in wetting system, which opens bags and feeds the waste to a screw or belt conveyor going to the screening station 4.
The bag removal station is equipped with a toothed shredder which opens bags and roughly shreds the waste matter.
The screening station 4 separates the small waste elements from dust.
This station is also equipped with a wetting system. TmucoN CERnFE Cna ORN E A t'ORGlN C. PERROT, Exaert Rpr6s la Cour d'Appel do Toulouse FranCO 21 FEV. 1Y95 m e I REPLACEMENT SHEET (RULE 26) N VARETU S TOL C/ 1*r I I

The screening station feeds a waste washing station Preferentially, washing station 5 consists of a rotary drum on a horizontal or vertical axis in which washing is performed using continuously recycled water with grease recovery and recycling.
Waste is then coveyed (on a belt or screw conveyor) to the spindrying station which expels the washing water and sends it to the processing station.
Spin-drying at station 6 is performed using a continuous-operation rotary centrifugal machine.
Waste travels on a conveyor from station 6 to the drying station 7.
The dryer, equipped with an internal conveyor, removes humidity from the product before sorting using dried air continuously recycled by a fan unit (ref. C. AIR).
The system used is a combination of a standard heat bump and heat exchangers.
The preferred temperature of drying air is 30 to 38°C.
Water is recovered from the drying air.
On leaving the drying station 7, the products are conveyed to a manual sorting area. Waste matter is sorted by type on the conveyor as described in the overview.
Selective conveyor belts in the sorting station are fed with products of the same type or family. Combustible, non-perishable products, plastics, rags, cardboard and possibly other products are grouped and routed to a compacting station 9 where waste is pressed into TlAOUCTIOH CERTIFIE COHFORME A 'ORIGINAL C. bales for storage in station 10. Bales are then sent to the appropriate finishing stations.
Perishable organic matter, food residues and vegetable matter are conveyed to a grinding station 11.
The grinding station produces an aggregate.
Grinding is performed by any suitable means compatible with the facility.
The aggregate obtained is routed to a drying unit 12 where it is thoroughly dried.
The temperature of this drying unit is in the region of 38 0
C.
The aggregate obtained after drying is bagged for use using standard equipment.
The storage, input bag removal 3, and screening 4 stations are pre-wash wet stations with water recovery systems, which facilitates the action of washing station 5 and spin-drying station 6.
This wet phase of the process is one of the important features of the invention and allows work to be done on the waste matter cleansed of most impurities and harmful effects, particularly smells.
The dry phase of the process comprises: drying 7, sorting 8 and compacting stations 9 for inorganic matter 7, 8, 9, plus the grinding station 11 and drying station 12 for organic matter. This phase provides additional comfort during work and dry end products.
Organic matter is output in the form of a dry aggregate, particularly easy to spread as fertilizer.
