Actual Inventor(s): Josef Theurer, Manfred Brunninger Address for Service: PHILLIPS ORMONDE FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Invention Title: A BULK MATERIAL LOADING WAGON Our Ref 647727 POF Code: 1203/1203 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1- 0015 (AU) ORIGINAL TEXT Ng/Ma/sp The invention relates to a bulk material loading wagon for incorporation into a loading train having several such wagons, including a wagon frame, supportable on on-track undercarriages, on which are arranged a storage box, having a bottom conveyor belt extending in the longitudinal direction of the wagon, and an inclined transfer conveyor belt projecting over a wagon end and includes a discharging end.
Numerous bulk material loading wagons of this kind are already known from S patent literature. For example, EP 96 236 B describes a rail-going transport wagon for bulk materials which comprises a storage box with a bottom conveyor belt. The latter is followed at the end of the wagon by an inclined transfer conveyor belt which projects beyond the wagon end. Due to this type of design, it is possible to couple any number of these wagons to form a loading train. In doing so, the discharging end of the transfer conveyor belt in each case projects over the receiving end of the bottom conveyor belt of the preceding wagon. A conveyor belt road is formed which extends along the entire loading train. Excavated ballast of a track bed can now be conveyed through the entire train, the storage of the ballast starts in the last wagon, as soon as the latter is full, the transfer conveyor belt of the penultimate wagon is taken out of operation and this wagon is filled.
From AT 398 993 B, a transport wagon is known on whose wagon frame several storage spaces are arranged, each having its own bottom conveyor belt. Each bottom conveyor belt is arranged at an angle, so that a discharging end is positioned above a receiving end of the following bottom conveyor belt.
In this transfer region, control flaps are arranged which guarantee above all in track curves a problem-free flow of material.
Finally, a material conveying and storage installation mobile on a track is known from CH 609 622. A conveyor belt arrangement extends above storage containers arranged on a wagon frame. In the region of the discharging end of the conveyor belt arrangement, a pivotable deflector plate is arranged in order to safely direct the material flow into the storage container.
The object of the invention lies in extending the life-span of the bottom conveyor belt.
According to the invention, this object is achieved with a bulk material loading wagon of the specified kind in that the bulk material loading wagon includes an impact-absorbing baffle plate which is designed to be adjustable from an operating position, located between the discharging end and the bottom conveyor belt and intended for diverting bulk material discharged by the S discharging end, into an inoperative position by means of a drive.
As a result of mounting said baffle plate, the bulk material or the ballast now no longer impacts with full force upon the bottom conveyor belt from the transfer conveyor belt. It first falls upon the baffle plate and thereafter slides onto the bottom conveyor belt. Thereby, a damage to or premature wear of the bottom conveyor belt involving time-consuming and costly repair work is precluded. The baffle plate itself may be replaced relatively quickly and inexpensively. It is, of course, also easily possible to retrofit already existing loading wagons with such baffle plates. The adjustability of the baffle plate guarantees a damping of the impact without reducing the storage capacity of the bulk material loading wagon.
With a design according to claim 3, the impact is damped even when the bulk material or ballast is unloaded onto other wagons, or the loading surface of a truck, or laterally next to the track.
A plastic coating according to claim 4, on the one hand, dampens the impact and the generation of noise and, on the other hand, protects the baffle plate from wear. It is only necessary to renew or replace the coating after a certain operating time.
The invention will be described in more detail below with reference to embodiments represented in the drawings in which Fig. 1 shows a side view of a bulk material loading wagon according to the invention, incorporated into a loading train, Fig. 2 shows an enlarged partial view of a bulk material loading wagon, Fig. 3 shows an enlarged partial view of a different embodiment of a bulk material loading wagon, and S-Fig. 4 shows a detail of a baffle plate.
A bulk material loading wagon 1, shown in Fig. 1, is coupled with several such wagons, mobile on a track, to form a loading train 2. Each bulk material loading wagon 1 consists of a wagon frame 4, supported on on-track undercarriages 3, on which a storage box 5 is located. The bottom of said storage box 5 is formed by a bottom conveyor belt 6 extending in the longitudinal direction of the wagon. The bottom conveyor belt 6 is preceded in the transporting direction (arrow 7) by an inclined transfer conveyor belt 8 which is designed to project over a forward wagon end 9. An energy unit S serves to supply all drives.
As can be seen in particular in Fig. 2, a discharging end 12 of the transfer conveyor belt 8 of the bulk material loading wagon 1 following behind in the transporting direction is located above a receiving end 11 of the bottom conveyor belt 6. A baffle plate 13 is arranged on the storage box 5 between the receiving end 11 of the bottom conveyor belt 6 and the discharging end 12 of the transfer conveyor belt 8. Said baffle plate 13 is designed to be adjustable from an operating position into an inoperative position (represented in Fig. 2 in dash-dotted lines) by means of a drive 14. Between the baffle plate 13 and the drive 14, an articulation 15 is provided which is fashioned as a parallelogram linkage 16. The direction of flow of bulk material or ballast 17 is illustrated by small arrows.
When filling the loading train 2, the ballast 17 is conveyed all the way to the front-most, in the transporting direction, bulk material loading wagon 1, with the transfer- and bottom conveyor belts 8 and 6 rotating at corresponding speed. In this operating mode, the baffle plate 13 of each bulk material loading wagon 1 is in the operating position in which the ballast 17 falls from the discharging end 12 upon the baffle plate 13 and finally, with slight deflection, upon the bottom conveyor belt 6 located immediately thereunder.
As soon as the first bulk material loading wagon 1 is filled almost to capacity, the baffle plate 13 of that wagon is taken out of operation, and the storage box 5 is filled completely while the bottom conveyor belt 6 is at a standstill.
Thereafter, the remaining bulk material loading wagons 1 of the loading train 2 are filled in an analogous way.
A different variation of embodiment of a bulk material loading wagon 1 is visible in Fig. 3. In this, the baffle plate 13 or the articulation 15 is hinged to the discharging end 12 of the transfer conveyor belt 8. By means of the drive 14, the baffle plate 13 is pivotable about a horizontal axis 18 extending approximately in the transverse direction of the wagon. If desired, the pivoting motion (small arrow) can be carried so far that the baffle plate 13 in the inoperative position is located above the transfer conveyor belt 8 (shown in dash-dotted lines).
In Fig. 4, a special embodiment of a baffle plate 13 is shown. The latter is provided at its upper side, i.e. the side facing the transfer conveyor belt 8 not shown in detail, with a plastic coating 19.
