Complete Specification for the invention entitled: Cribbage Board The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us 5845/3
ABSTRACT
CRIBBAGE BOARDS Problems arise in the use of a conventional cribbage board due to players proceeding in different directions round the tracks. A cribbage board is disclosed having two closed tracks of holes for pegs, said tracks being one inside the other. This makes it mor obvious if one player starts to proceed in the "wrong" direction.
a* CRIBBAGE BOARDS This invention relates to cribbage boards.
The traditional cribbage board is rectangular, having a surface in which are formed two tracks of holes for pegs.
Each track comprises a double line of holes, each line containing 31 holes in 5 groups of 5 with a spare starting hole at one end. The traditional tracks are separate from each other.
Problems arise in the use of the traditional board.
Some players go up the track on the outside and back on the inside, others go up the track on the inside and return on the outside. Some would always go clockwise round the track others anticlockwise. This leads to confusion and arguments 15 between the players especially when the game is played for money. Another problem with a conventional cribbage board is that there are only two tracks making scoring difficult for ""three players.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a 20 cribbage board having three closed tracks of holes for pegs, said tracks being one inside the other. This arrangement facilitates players proceeding in the same direction (e.g.
clockwise) round the tracks, since it is more obvious at the start if one goes the wrong way.
In one example, the tracks are circular. In other examples the tracks are polygonal.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a cribbage board embodying the invention; and Figure 2 is a half elevation and half section on arrows of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, a cribbage board 2 is disc 2 shaped, being formed from wood or plastics material. The board illustrated is formed as a hollow moulding in plastics material, as may be seen from the half section in Figure 2.
The board has three parallel closed circular tracks 4, 6 and 8 of holes for pegs. The tracks lie one inside the other.
In each track the holes are arranged in 12 groups of indicated at 10 in the drawing. A win hole is indicated at 12. As the tracks are adjacent, and as there is only one winner, only one win hole is necessary. In each track a shallow groove, not illustrated, may connect the holes. This facilitates moving a peg from one hole to another along the track. Instead of proceeding out and back on separate tracks as in a conventional cribbage board, players both or all oe proceed round the tracks in the same direction. It is easier 15 to monitor the direction in which a player moves the pegs on 00e 0 e the present board and relative scores are clearer. The direction to proceed around the track is indicated by a series of arrows 13.
A storage compartment 14 is provided in the centre of 20 the board. The compartment has a cover 16 and may be used to t o store a pack of playing cards and pegs.
Another source of arguments can be how many time a player has proceeded round the track. Normally a game would be twice round to win. In order to assist in this aspect, 25 means are provided to indicate the number of times a player has proceeded round the track. In the embodiment illustrated three peg holes 18, 19 and 20 are provided on the inside of the tracks for this purpose. Play can either commence with all the holes 18, 19 and 20 empty or with a peg therein.
When one circuit of the track has been completed, a player inserts or removes a peg as appropriate.
In other embodiments the tracks are polygonal, e.g.
triangular, rectangular, hexagonal etc. The tracks may be an irregular shape, but are preferably substantially parallel to facilitate relative scores being apparent to the players.
The board may be made from any suitable materials. Wood is traditional. Plastics, as illustrated, may be preferred -3 and would facilitate manufacture of the groove.
