Abstract

A combined games board comprises a frame 1 surrounding a central area 2. The frame and central area are vacuum formed from a single sheet of plastics material and three sides of the frame have holes 3 arranged in the patterns required for playing "crash", "cribbage" and "Thirty one" respectively. A fourth side may have holes or recesses for a marker store, or for dice, dominoes or playing cards. The central area merges into the frame via a chambered or curved junction zone. The central area may serve for playing cards or dominoes or as a tray, or be patterned for playing of board game(s). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improved scorer playing board This invention relates to a game playing board which may be used for use in playing a plurality of so-called "pub games" such as "cribbage", "crash" or "thirty one".
Games of this nature are played with boards in the form of wooden blocks with an array of holes for the insertion of matchsticks or other markers advanced and removed or added to, according e.g. to the turn of cards or dominoes or the throw of die. These boards, and any special markers provided-if matchsticks are not used are liable to be misplaced. Different boards are required for different games, since the hole arrangements are different for each.
An object of the invention is to provide a combined game board which provides a single board for scoring games, and can also be used as a playing surface for dominoes and card games.
In accordance with the invention, a combined game board comprises a rectangular tray having a circumscribing frame provided with bores or holes arranged for the playing of one or more cribbage-type games, and having a recessed planar central area.
The frame may be solid, or hollow. The board can be made of timber, but plastics are preferred the frame and centre being vacuum formed, the holes in the frame also being vacuum formed on pins in a vacuum forming mould.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which is a partly cut away perspective view of a combined game board according to the invention.
As shown, the games board has a frame 1 and a central area 2. As shown in the cutaway part of the drawing, frame 1 and central area 2 are made from a single sheet of synthetic plastics material vacuum formed to provide a channel-section profile for the frame 1, and provide the central area 2 as a recess bounded by the frame. Each side of the frame 1 is provided with vacuum formed holes 3 arranged in patterns required, on side 4 for playing cribbage, or side 5 for playing crash, on side 6 for playing "Thirty one", with round number indicator and on side 7 to act as a marker store. This side 7 may have larger recesses 8 to accommodate throwing dice, or to store a set of dominoes or a pack of cards.
The central area 2 has a chamfered or rounded junction zone 9 where it joins or merges into the frame 1, which facilitates cleaning of the central area, and is convenient for card games particularly when cards are being picked up. The central area serves as a playing area for card games and dominoes, or when one side of the frame is being used, can be used as a tray for glasses and ashtrays.
The markers can be matchsticks or specially provided coloured plastics markers in the form of pins with heads, in which case the holes 3 can be formed as simple apertures in the frame part 1 instead of being formed as hollow spikes as in the drawing.
The board may be fabricated of timber, in which case the sides of the frame will be solid, or may be of glass fibre reinforced plastics, in which case the sides of the frame can be solid as described in the form of a shell laid up on a former.
Where the sides are solid, the holes 3 may be provided as blind bores in the material of the sides of the frame. The central area 2 may be chequered for playing of draughts or chess, or marked for other board games.
1. A combined games board comprising a rectangular tray having a circumscribing frame provided with bores or holes arranged for the scoring of one or more cribbage-type games, and having a recessed planar central area enclosed by the frame.
2. A board according to claim 1 wherein the frame and central area are made from a single sheet of vacuum formed synthetics plastics material, the frame being of inverted channel shaped cross-sections, and the central area being formed as a depression surrounded by the frame.
3. A board according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the holes in the frame are provided as hollow spikes extending below the surface of the frame.
4. A board according to any preceding claim wherein the junction zone between the central area and frame is chamfered.
5. A board according to any preceding claim, wherein holes are provided in a first side of the frame for cribbage, on a second side for 'crash' and on a third side for 'Thirtyone'.
6. A board according to claim 5 wherein the fourth side has holes for storage or markers and/or recesses for dice and/or dominoes and/or a pack of cards.
7. A combined games board substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
