Description

W. L. BUEDINGEN GAME Filed Sept. 10, 192-3 WILLIAM L. BUEEHNGEN,
Patented June 16, 1925.
UN'TED S A wan n; BUEIQINGEN, or iviiLwA nE, Wisconsin.
GAME.
g npplication filed Septemberl0,1923. Serial at. 661,977.
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. Brianna- GEN, a citizen of the United States, and resident ofMilwaukee, in the countyof Milwaukeeyand State of l/Visconsin, have in.- vented new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which is a part of this specification. 1
This invention relatesto certain new and useful improvements in gamesand has as a primary object to provide a readily portable game which will be highly amusing to the young andold alike.
It is another object of this invention to provide a game which is self-contained in that it comprises a plurality of sections adapted to be closed to form a unitary parcel when not in. use.
This invention has for another object to provide a game comprising a plurality ofi sections adapted to be closed to provide a unitary parcel when not in use and to be opened to provide a game board or court for the playing of quoits, horseshoes, or any similar game.
It is a further object of this invention to provide a game of the character described comprising two sections adapted to be telescoped when. not in use to form a unitary parcel and to be secured end to end to provide a game board or court having a scoring stake pin adjacent opposite ends towhich playing members are thrown.
And a still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a section for a game of the character described having a stake or pin rigidly secured therein with its external portions concealed by a cover or wrapping for the section.
. With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined by the appended claim, it being understood that such changes in the precise embodiment of the herein disclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, I have 11- lustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode I have Figure 1. is a perspective VlBVWill-UStlfitingthe sections of my game in closed or;
telescopedcondition; i
Figure 2 is'a perspective view illustrat ing the sectionsthereofsecured open and secured end to end to provide a game boa-rd 7 ready for. playing; V
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail sections end to end, said view being taken through Figure 2 on the plane of the line 33, and
Figure 4: is an enlarged fragmentary detail view illustrating the manner of securing the scoring post or pins in the sections, said view being taken through Figure 2 on the plane of the line l4.,
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, the numerals 5 and 6 each designate a section having bottom and side walls 7 and 8, respectively, having their exterior provided with a wrapper or cover 9 adapted to have any desired advertising or matter printed thereon.
The sections 5 and 6 are adapted. to be tele scoped one within the other as illustrated in Figure 1, when the game is not in use, but when it is desired to play the game, the sections are arranged end to end and secured in this position by readily detachable clip mem-. bers 10. In the present embodiment, the clip members are each struck or formed from a single length or strip of resilient material medially folded to cause the free ends 11 to firmly clamp the abutting end walls of the sections therebetween.
Each section has a stake or pin 12 secured therein, adjacent its outer end, by having its shank passed through an opening in the bottom wall of the section to clamp the section bottom wall between its head 13, and a washer 14; is secured in position by swedging the stake or pin, as at 15. As illustrated in Figure 4, the cover 9 passes over the head 13 to thus conceal it and prevent the mar-ring or scratching of the table or any other support, not shown, upon which the sections may be placed to play the game.
As illustrated in Figure 2, game markers such as a plurality of concentric circles 16 radiate from the axis of each stake or pin 12. The game is played by a plurality of playing members 17 which may be in the so fardevised fonthe practical application "of the prmciples thereof, in which:
.65 View illustrating the manner of securingtlie l natel form of miniature horseshoes, quoits, or other form, and the players take positions at opposite ends of the game board or court formed by joining the sections end to end. The members 17 are then pitched toward the stake or pin farthest from the player, the object being to encircle the farthest pin or come as near thereto as possible. The circles are preferably numbered and alterlight and dark for convenience in judging the distance of the playing members from the stake or pin.
When the game is over, the clips 10 are removed and placed within one of the Sections and the other section then telescoped thereover to provide a unitary parcel capable of being stored without occupying unnecessary space.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be readily obvious to those skilled in the art to which an invention of this character appertains, that I provide a game which is self-contained, may be produced in quantities at a very low cost, and which will be highly interesting to the young and old alike. It will also be obvious that in lieu of the clips 10, the sections may be hingedly connected.
lVhat I claim as my invention is:
A game of the class described comprising a pair of telescopic container sections adapted to form a unitary parcel when not in use, a pin arranged vertically within one end portion of each section and to which playing members are thrown, and said sections adapted to be secured end to end when in use to position the pin of one section a distance from the other, said distance being dependable upon the length of each section.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM L. BUEDINGEN.
