A Traditional Chinese Medicine Composition for Treating aeromonas
hydrophila disease of Ducks
Technical Field The present invention relates to a traditional Chinese medicine composition for treating poultry diseases, which belongs to the field of animal medicine, particularly to a traditional Chinese medicine composition used for treating aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks exclusively.
Background Technology Aeromonas hydrophila can be found in fresh water, soil and sewage in nature easily, which would make aquatic animals, including fish, shrimps, and waterfowls, get disease through infection, and belongs to a conditional pathogenic bacterium. Aeromonas hydrophila disease is an acute and septicemic infectious disease which would mainly attack through infection of digestive canal. This disease is very similar to duck viral hepatitis either in terms of onset days, symptoms or pathological changes. However, the diseased ducks showed obvious lung lesions, including pulmonary hemorrhage, pulmonary edema, being in purple black, and there were hemorrhagic bubbles exudated from the cut section. In addition, combined with the clinical respiratory distress syndrome, there were relatively more bacteria seen on the microslide of lung, which can be utilized to complete preliminary diagnosis, however, it is necessary to conduct laboratory examinations to make a definite diagnosis. The outbreak of disease is common throughout the country, while the incidence rate is increasing year by year, and the mortality rate is relatively high. Thus, it would cause serious losses to farmers and has become a new problem for the duck industry. 1. Epidemiology Aeromonas hydrophila can be easily found in water environments including lakes, ponds, and sludge, etc., which is incredibly easy to attack fish and frogs. Furthermore, the fish ponds for breeding ducks are full of nutriments, which are conducive to the growth and reproduction of Aeromonas hydrophila. Ducks would be infected when swimming in the water or have eaten diseased or infected fish and frogs. In addition, the onset season is in summer, and ducks at different days of age are all susceptible to infection. Furthermore, the mortality rate is relatively high, which is between 20% and 60% approximately. 2. Clinical symptoms and pathological changes The symptoms of diseased ducks include being lassitude, loss of appetite or

anorexia, necking down and standing transfixed to the ground, being unwilling to walk, closing eyes and showing lethargy, having breathing difficulties, and keeping mouth breathing as well as being accompanied by wheezing. For those infected severely, the symptoms showed including lying prone and paralysis, etc., as well as being unwilling to swim. Furthermore, some of them who are willing to swim cannot move due to suffering from paralysis of both legs. In addition, the symptoms include having loose bowels in gray-white or light-green frequently, wherein, some diseased ducks would be stained with mushy stool on feathers around anus. During the later stages of the disease, such diseased ducks would exhibit symptoms of being keen on lying down, or suffering from paralysis of both legs, moving slowly, or becoming ataxia. Finally, these ducks would flop down and their legs present paddling gestures or opisthotonos. In addition, most diseased ducks would show hematomas or red appearance on the shin or toe of one side. Furthermore, it can be seen that there was a small amount of red ascites in the abdominal cavity, and the hemorrhage occurred in internal organs through the autopsy of certain cases; meanwhile, the liver, which was earthy yellow, was enlarged and covered with hemorrhagic spots or blood spots densely; and the lung, which was dark purple, was enlarged and accompanied with diffuse hemorrhage, in addition, there was red foamy liquid flowing out from the cut section. Furthermore, the fatty hemorrhage occurred on coronary plexus, and there were various blood spots of different sizes appeared in the serosae of heart; meanwhile, the spleen was swollen, accompanied with stagnation of the blood and hemorrhage; as well as the intestinal mucous membrane fell off, and the diffuse hemorrhage appeared; furthermore, the kidney exhibited stagnation of the blood or hemorrhage; and the ring hemorrhage appeared in tracheal mucosa. Meanwhile, the tibiotarsus, and the femoro-tibial and tibio-metatarsal joints were swollen, and there was dark red blood flowing out from the toes, even some would suffer from muscle necrosis of legs. 3. Existing prevention measures Modem veterinary medicine mainly uses various antibiotics to treat such disease. Unfortunately, the therapeutic effect of such method is unsatisfactory for the reason of the existence of drug resistance, while the cost is high, and has many toxic and side effects. In addition, it would make the amount of drug residues in ducks increase. Although, the newly launched immune-enhancer, probiotics and vaccines, etc. would play some effect on the prevention and control of Aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks, the application of which has been restricted due to their inherent limitations of usage, the irritation to organisms, and the complexity of operation, and thus it is deemed as one of the critical factors that increased the

difficulty of effective control and radical treatment of Aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks. Fortunately, the Chinese herbal medicines indicated dual-direction regulation of immunity and antibacterial on ducks, and are degradable easily as well as free from residues, and have no toxic side effects, which are deemed as ideal medicines for treating aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks. Thus, it is urgently to develop a traditional Chinese medicine composition for treating aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks by Scientific and technical staff of this field.
Summary of the Invention The purpose of the present invention is to overcome the existing shortcomings of the treatment methods for the Aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks, and to provide a traditional Chinese medicine decoction to treat the Aeromonas hydrophila disease of ducks, which is easy to obtain, convenient to prepare, and can reduce drug residues and toxic and side effects, as well as demonstrate high curative effect at low cost.
