Description

A cleaning apparatus for cleaning a rotatable brush roller
of a cleaning appliance and a cleaning system
The invention relates to a cleaning apparatus for cleaning a rotatable brush roller
of a cleaning appliance, comprising a container with a depression for receiving the
main body of the cleaning appliance being provided with said brush roller and a
water reservoir. The invention further relates to a cleaning system comprising a
cleaning apparatus and a cleaning appliance.
Such a cleaning appliance is known from US Pat. No. 8,819,882 B2.
In particular for cleaning smooth floors, hand-guided cleaning appliances are used
comprising a main body with a handle fastened to it in an articulated manner,
wherein the main body accommodates a rotatable roller arrangement. The roller
arrangement is set in rotation by an electric motor integrated into the cleaning
appliance, for example by a battery-operated electric motor. The cleaning appliance
is guided over the floor to be cleaned. In this process, the rotatable roller
arrangement loosens dirt adhering to the floor. The cleaning appliance can further
be provided with a suction device which has a suction slot that is arranged adjacent
to the roller arrangement. The suction device picks up the dirt which is loosened by
the brush arrangement and conveys it into a dirt collecting chamber arranged in the
cleaning appliance.
The cleaning appliance can further comprise a device for applying cleaning fluid onto
the floor to be cleaned. The cleaning fluid comes into contact with the brush roller, as
a result of which the brush roller can loosen also firmly adhering dirt. In this instance,
there is a problem in that, over time, dirt can accumulate on the brush roller. In order
to remove the dirt from the brush roller, it is known from prior art to arrange the main
body of the cleaning appliance in a bowl-shaped container.
The cleaning apparatus comprises a container with a depression, which is suited to
accommodate the main body of the cleaning appliance. The cleaning apparatus
further comprises a water reservoir wherein a cleaning fluid is held. The cleaning
fluid comes into contact with the brush roller. For the cleaning process, the brush
roller of the cleaning appliance is set in rotation. Thereby, the cleaning fluid loosens
the dirt adhering to the brush roller and the loosened contaminants pass via the
suction slot into the dirt collecting container arranged within the cleaning appliance.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a cleaning apparatus for cleaning a
rotatable brush roller of a cleaning appliance and a cleaning system comprising a
cleaning apparatus and a cleaning appliance, which facilitates cleaning of the brush
roller in a simple and improved manner.
This object is achieved with the features of claims 1 and 7. The subclaims refer to
advantageous embodiments.
The cleaning apparatus according to the invention for cleaning a rotatable brush
roller of a cleaning appliance comprises a container having a first depression for
accommodating the main body of the cleaning appliance provided with the brush
roller and a water reservoir, wherein the water reservoir is flow-connected to the first
depression, wherein cleaning fluid introduced into the water reservoir automatically
flows into the first depression, wherein the first depression is designed in such a way
that the water reservoir is assigned to that edge of the cleaning appliance, which is
spaced apart from the brush roller, and wherein the brush roller comes to rest at
least partially against the base of the first depression.
In the cleaning apparatus according to the invention, it is advantageous that the
cleaning fluid flows steadily upwards out of the water reservoir in the direction of the
brush roller. As a result, it is possible to prevent the brush roller from coming into
contact with too much cleaning fluid. Furthermore, the flow rate of the cleaning fluid
can be adjusted in such a way that a rapid and effective cleaning of the brush roller
is achieved and dirty cleaning fluid is immediately discharged from the depression. In
most embodiments of cleaning appliances, the edge referred to above is defined by
the rear edge of the cleaning appliance. In these appliances, the articulated handles
are also disposed in the region of the rear edge.
For cleaning purposes, the container, which constitutes the cleaning apparatus, is
usually placed on the floor. In this instance, the water reservoir has a greater
distance from the base than the depression. As a result, the cleaning fluid can, under
gravity, automatically flow from the water reservoir into the depression.
The depression can have a first trough for accommodating the main body of the
cleaning appliance and a second trough for accommodating the brush roller, with the
first trough being arranged between water reservoir and second trough. In this
embodiment, the depression is adapted to the underside of the main body of the
cleaning appliance, which facilitates effective cleaning of the brush roller. The
second trough for accommodating the brush roller is preferably designed in the form
of a semicircular recess which is adapted to the shape of the brush roller.
The first trough may have additional recesses for accommodating wheels and the
like.
A channel can be formed into the first trough, through which channel the cleaning
fluid introduced into the water reservoir automatically enters the second trough. The
channel ensures that the cleaning fluid passes directly from the water reservoir into
the second trough.
The second trough can be provided with protuberances. These protuberances can
be designed, for example, as knobs. By virtue of the protuberances, a dot-wise
contact of the brush roller with the base of the second trough is achieved which
improves the cleaning efficiency. In a preferred embodiment, the protuberances are
of a comb-shaped configuration. To this end, the protuberances in the form of knobs
can, for example, be arranged in a line, in a comb-like manner. Such an
arrangement of protuberances achieves a particularly thorough cleaning of the brush
roller.
At least one slot, through which the cleaning fluid introduced into the water reservoir
reaches the at least one channel, can be inserted into the wall of the water reservoir.
In this instance, the at least one slot is preferably designed in such a way that the
volume flow of the fluid into the channel is independent of the level of the cleaning
fluid in the water reservoir. For this purpose, for example, the slot-width could be
varied and adapted to suit the respective level. Preferably, the slot width is selected
such that about 100 ml of fluid passes into the second trough via the channel over a
period of 30 seconds.
The cleaning system according to the invention comprises a cleaning apparatus as
described above and a cleaning appliance, comprising a main body which is
provided with a rotatable brush roller. The cleaning appliance also preferably
comprises a handle, which is connected in an articulated manner to the main body,
an electric motor which sets the brush roller in rotation, as well as a battery which
provides electrical energy for the electric motor.
Preferably, the main body is further provided with a suction device with a suction
opening. The suction opening is preferably designed as a suction slot and is
arranged adjacent to the brush roller on the underside of the main body facing the
floor to be cleaned. The suction device is designed to pick up dirt loosened by the
brush roller and to convey it into a dirt collecting container arranged in the main
body.
The underside of the main body of the cleaning appliance and the bottom of the
depression of the cleaning apparatus are designed to be substantially congruent to
each other, so that the main body of the cleaning appliance can be at least partially
inserted into the depression.
For cleaning of the brush roller, cleaning fluid is introduced into the water reservoir.
The fluid flows via the slot and the channel into the second trough. There, the
cleaning fluid comes into contact with the rotating brush roller, whereby the brush
roller furthermore comes into contact with the protuberances arranged in the second
trough, as a result of which the dirt particles become loosened and arrive in the
cleaning fluid. Due to the rotation of the brush roller, the contaminated cleaning fluid
is conveyed in the direction of the suction opening of the cleaning appliance and
there received by the suction device and conveyed into the dirt collecting container
located in the cleaning appliance.
An embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention and an embodiment of
the cleaning system according to the invention is explained in more detail below with
reference to the Figures. These show, in each case schematically:
FIG. 1 a cleaning apparatus in plan view, side view and front view;
FIG. 2 a three-dimensional view of the cleaning apparatus according to FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 a sectional view of the cleaning apparatus according to FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 a sectional view of a cleaning appliance;
FIG. 5 a three-dimensional view of a cleaning system;
FIG. 6 a front view of the cleaning system of FIG. 5;
FIG. 7 a sectional view of the cleaning system according to FIG. 5.
FIGS. 1 to 3 show a cleaning apparatus 1 for cleaning a rotatable brush roller 13 of a
cleaning appliance 11. The cleaning apparatus 1 comprises a container 2 with a
depression 3 which is suitable for accommodating the main body 12 of the cleaning
appliance 11, this main body being equipped with the brush roller 13.
The container 2 further comprises a water reservoir 4, which water reservoir 4 is
flow-connected with the depression 3.
The container 2 is made of injection-moulded plastic and has a circumferential edge
18, which delimits the depression 3 and the water reservoir 4. At the same time, the
edge 18 serves as a positioning element, so that the cleaning apparatus 1 can be
placed on a floor. In this instance, the water reservoir 4 is arranged in the cleaning
apparatus 1 in such a way that - as viewed from the floor on which the cleaning
apparatus 1 is placed - same water reservoir 4 is arranged at a higher level than the
depression 3. Thus, cleaning fluid introduced into the water reservoir 4, under the
action of gravity, automatically flows into the depression 3.
Depression 3 has a first trough 5 for accommodating the main body 12 of the
cleaning appliance 11 and a second trough 6 for accommodating the brush roller 13.
Therefore, as seen in the plan view, the first trough 5 is arranged between the water
reservoir 4 and the second trough 6. The brush roller 13 comes to lie at least partially
against the base 17 of trough 6.
Within the first mould 5, three channels 7 are formed through which the cleaning fluid
introduced into the water reservoir 4 automatically reaches the second trough 6.
Three slots 10 are inserted into a wall 9 of the water reservoir 4, which are in
connection with the channels 7 and through which the cleaning fluid introduced into
the water reservoir 4 passes into channels 7.
In the cleaning apparatus 1 according to the invention, the water reservoir 4 and the
second trough 6 are arranged opposite each other and are each assigned to the circumferential edge 18. The first trough 5 is located between the water reservoir 4 and the second trough 6.
The second trough 6 is designed in the form of a cylindrical recess, wherein the
second trough 6 is provided with protuberances 8 in the form of knobs. These
protuberances 8 in the form of knobs are arranged in the second trough 6 in one line
and thus in a comb-like configuration. Overall, three rows of protuberances 8
arranged in a comb-like manner are proposed for the second trough 6.
In the region of the second trough 6, an emergency drainage 19 is inserted into the
edge 18 of the cleaning apparatus 1. The emergency drainage 19 comprises a third
trough which is separated from the second trough 6 by a partition wall. It is proposed
to insert a slit-shaped opening into this partition wall within its lower region. Through
this opening, the emergency drainage is flow-connected with the second trough 6.
In the event the cleaning fluid that flowed into the second trough 6 cannot be
accommodated by the cleaning appliance 11, the cleaning fluid runs off via the
opening into the emergency drainage 19. Openings in the form of two slit-shaped
outlets located opposite each other are made into the edge 18 in the region of the
third trough. The cleaning fluid flows off via these openings when the volume of the
third trough is exhausted.
The emergency drainage 19 facilitates draining off cleaning fluid when the cleaning
fluid is not removed as intended, for example is not taken up by the suction opening
15 of the cleaning appliance 11. Thus, it can be prevented that the cleaning fluid
comes into contact with mechanical or electrical components of the cleaning
appliance 11, which are not equipped for contact with cleaning fluid.
The first trough 5 has recesses 20 on the side facing the water reservoir 4, which
recesses serve to receive and accommodate wheels 21 of the cleaning appliance
11.
FIG. 4 shows a cleaning appliance 11. The cleaning appliance 11 has a main body
12 which is provided with a rotatable brush roller 13. The cleaning appliance 11 is
further provided with a suction device 14, wherein the suction device 14 has a
suction opening 15 in the form of a suction slot. The suction opening 15 and the
brush roller 13 are assigned to the underbody 16 of the main body 12 facing the
depression 3. The suction opening 15 and the brush roller 13 are adjacently
arranged, wherein the suction opening 15 is assigned to the front edge of the main
body 12, followed by the brush roller 13. The suction device 14 takes up fluid and
conveys it into a reservoir for accommodating dirty fluid. The suction device 14 is
fastened in a housing detachable from the cleaning appliance 11.
The cleaning appliance 11 is further equipped with an element 23 for applying
cleaning fluid to the floor to be cleaned. The element 23 is likewise assigned to the
underbody 16 of the main body 12.
The cleaning appliance 11 is equipped with electric motors for driving the brush roller
13 and suction device 14, wherein the provision of the electrical energy is via a
battery arranged in the cleaning appliance 11.
The cleaning appliance 11 has a pole with a handle and an actuating switch for the
electric motors of the suction device 14 and the brush roller 13, the handle being
arranged in an articulated manner on the main body 12.
The brush roller 13 and the suction opening 15 are arranged in the underbody 16 in
such a way that the brush roller 13 comes to lie at least partially in the second trough
6 and the suction opening 15 is located between the first trough 6 and the edge 18.
Figures 5 to 7 show a cleaning system 22 comprising a cleaning apparatus 1
according to Figures 1 to 3. Furthermore, the cleaning system 22 shown here
comprises a cleaning appliance 11 according to FIG. 4.
To clean the brush roller 13, cleaning fluid is introduced into the water reservoir 4.
The cleaning fluid passes via the slots 10 and the channels 7, automatically enters
the second trough 6 under gravity, and there comes into contact with the rotating
brush roller 13. Thereby, the brush roller 13 is rinsed and simultaneously comes into
contact with the protuberances 8, which are arranged in the second trough 6. The
cleaning fluid, together with the dirt rinsed off from the brush roller 13, is conveyed in
the direction of the suction opening 15 and taken up by the suction opening 15 and
conveyed into the dirt collecting chamber arranged in the cleaning appliance 11.
A cleaning strip 25 of textile material is assigned to the suction opening 15. The
cleaning strip 25 is assigned to the housing unit containing the suction device 14 and
can therefore be removed together with the housing unit from the main body 12. As a
result, the cleaning strip 25 can be cleaned separately from the main body 12. The
cleaning strip 25 serves to seal the gap between main body 12 and the brush roller
13 on the side facing away from the suction opening 15. At the same time, the
cleaning strip 25 allows to homogenise the wiping result in the forward movement of
the cleaning device 11.
