PATENTS ACT 1990 SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT WALKABOUT SAWMILL CHAINSAW OR SMALL MOTOR
POWERED
John Gilbert The invention is described in the following statement; This invention relates to a walkabout sawmill and technique or method that is part of and includes how the sawmill is operated. The sawmill consists of a lightweight track and carriage developed for the cutting of timbers from long length logs, slabs or flitches.
All sawmills whether static or portable are limited in their cutting length usually by the overall length of the track, carriage or table that the saw or log travels on. The only way to extend the cutting length capabilities of the machine is to manufacture an extension to the track, carriage or table and unfortunately this type of extension can be expensive and difficult. An extension to the track is also awkward and time wasting when being used in the field.
SO The improved system for extended cutting of logs using a horizontal or vertical cutting machine eliminates the need for extensions to the sawmilling machine. This extension cutting method requires only the one length of track supplied with the original sawmill and a number of small leveling plate assemblies. The leveling plates align the cutting blade or bar along the length of log, slab or flitch. There is actually no limit to the length of log able to be milled using the leveling plate method. Each leveling plate assembly has an adjustable bar on which the track frame sits. The leveling plates are spaced evenly along the log, slab or flitch, which has been rebated to accept the leveling plate assembly base, at points no greater than the length of the original sawmill track.
The track and carriage of this system are designed to be used with this extension cutting 0 method. The track consists of surfaces that sit evenly on the leveling plates of the extension cutting system. The traveling carriage allows the track to be moved with the cutting bar still in position the result of this capability is that a logs of any length can be milled.
The benefits of this sawmill are listed as, price competitive, one man operation and set up, easy set up, ease of operation and adjustment, accurate and easily maintained, safe to operate, versatile, good quality output, well constructed and durable, easily handled and freighted. The sawmill will also accept either one or two motors for powering the cutting chain.
Claims (4)
1. The leveling plate assembly when used, forms part of a system, process or technique that can be operated using one or multiple assemblies.
2. The leveling plates have an adjustable mechanism that allows for the leveling of the track and cutting head along the full length of the intended cut.
3. The leveling plates can be adjusted to cut at angles.
4. A track design that allows for the even placement locking and adjustment of the track onto the leveling plate assemblies. Sizing is obtained through the installation or removal of spacer rails situated in a housing on the carriage assembly. APPLICANT DATE 03 DAY OF MARCH 2002 0o3 o2e
